If you like BEcause, then you'll surely love their trilogy songs: Scream, Boca and Odd Eye. It has the global appeal that you're talking about. Chase me is their debut but as you heard in Deja Vu and BEcause, their sound evolved throughout the years and now their sound is more like more pop combined with rock.

keep in mind dreamcatcher is a 7 member group and their chinese member Handong was on China on a reality tv competition during this trilogy era. She was supposed to be in it but because of schedule and the pandemic going on she couldn't make it to the 2 first comebacks (Scream and BOCA), but she came through on Odd eye and slay the song

After almost 2 decades of following K-pop, Dreamcatcher is the best K-pop (Rock) group I've ever seen. 7 women that can do it all. They all are vocals, they all rap, they all dance and are so eye candy. The styles they mix (and the way they mix it) is just insane. They have insane movie like videos. The girls and the staff behind them are so extraordinarily talented. They have no bad music at all. Best albums I have ever purchased. They are on the top of the food chain.

You’re good. Most of dreamcatcher’s fandom (insomnia) are pretty chill with people not liking everything. They have such a wide variety of sounds that somehow still sound like them that we know that while everyone may not like everything, they will eventually find something from them that they like. I’ve never actually been able to pick a favorite song from them because they have both amazing bsides and title tracks, even though they’re completely different from each other.

Yeah they started with a jrock inspired sound to stand out from the competition (they redebuted because their last debut as Minx had gotten lost in a sea of cute girlier concepts despite putting out bops). They found their personal sound around Scream which was right after Deja Vu. Now they are sort of a rock fusion group with a very diverse discography in terms of their bsides.

Tbf, I'd say that they "found their sound" with 'You and I', that song hit so big for them that the only thing to actually stand in their way was BTS themselves coming in with Fake Love (and who could ever hope to win an award show with BTS in the mix after their blow-up.) To me, Dreamcatcher have just moved to a new chapter of their 'sound' since the transition to the Dystopia series which is A LOT more experimental, but I really think they had already figured it out from 'You and I'.

The recent releases got more genre blend to satisfy kpop listeners as well as giving the fandom new and fresh sound. Their title tracks mostly consist rock base sound mixed with other genre but their b-sides are a whole different world. Hope you can react more to Dreamcatcher soon.

One of the good thing about Dreamcatcher is that their discography is so diverse. If one particular blend doesn't suit them, we just shove a different kind of blend until we find something that suits them. 🤣🤣

I'm SO HAPPY to see that you reacted to them! I'm not too surprised that Chase Me was your least favorite, just based on other things I've seen you enjoy, but I requested it because I wanted you to see where they started as a group and how they've grown. I'm super excited that BEcause was your favorite though, since the 3 songs I requested from them for November are much more similar to BEcause (they are actually the 3 most recent releases before BEcause). Dreamcatcher started off with a heavier rock concept, and have added in other sounds as they've grown. You will definitely find heavier beats and more modern drops in their newer songs. This reaction was actually perfect timing too. I just had spinal fusion surgery and am stuck in bed bored out of my mind while recovering, so this was fun to watch. Thank you for giving them a chance and doing what you do!

Dreamcatcher is in my opinion the most underrated group in this Kpop business. This group deserves a lot of more attention. I think you´ll like them too when you hear the songs Scream, Boca and Odd Eye. Their B-Side songs are great too 😁😁

BEcause has a capitalized BE, because it represents the Chinese carachter BI 非, which means 'sadness'. Because of sadness. The video is inspired by Jordan Peele's horror movie 'Us', which has to do about Doppelgangers. And yes, there are references to Alice, as the redhair girl (Gahyeon) is dressed as Alice, the blonde girl wears a clock dress (Yoohyeon). There are also refrences to Dollhouse, an old cult horror film. Dreamcatcher went back in Summer 2019 to watch it together and they loved it. So they made a creepy horror MV for it. The song was described by Dreamcatcher as "a short cruel Summer tale". These 3 songs represent different eras. Chase me is part of a 6 part series, called the Nightmare series (or The Curse of the Spider)... Deja Vu is a mobile game OST, describing a regicide and how the usurper regrets her actions, before being consumed by darkness.
dreamcatcher's discography is extremely diverse and almost no two songs are similar. as you can already see the three songs you checked out are all very different. their songs range from soft ballads to metal and various combinations of genres in between so there will obviously be some songs you like more than others or even ones you dislike. I understand you feeling towards chase me since western rock fans are simply not use to that style and rock purists would even hate it. you probably would like their more electronic and poppy songs that use less rock/metal instrumentation. as you noticed, dreamcatcher uses a lot of pop-culture influences to help convey their themes since their lyrics are very abstract. in because, there are the movie us references as well as alice in wonderland and the iconic screech from pyscho. all these have themes of duality, multiple personalities, and identity crisis. so if you take the imagery from the mv then the lyrics could be interpreted as an internal conflict between one's good and bad side, like jekyll and hyde. one of dreamcatcher's recurring themes throughout their discography is to never give up on your dreams but maintain your identity in its pursuit.
So one of the members is actually Chinese and the reason they capitalize the Be that way is becuase its in sync with the choreography ( the hands gesture to be specific) which in Chinese characters means sadness. The music video / idea for it was actually inspired by the horror movie Us
Little facts from an insomnia: -Chase me was purely inspired on the shinning for the MV -Deja vu was a music colaboration with the korean game phone King's Raid ( they did the opening for the 2nd season of the anime of the game as well ) -BEcause MV was inspired on the movie "Us" where every member has a doppelganger who is evil. -Chase me was the redebut of the group after being a cute girly kpop concept group called "Minx" and maybe the production is a little bit rough but we love them no matter what :). Scream had a full actual band with real instruments (and maybe some electronics besides the guitars). By the time they got around to BEcause, the production is much more technical and computerized so there is a bunch of electronica going on. It's still DreamCatcher but most definitely is not the same as a few years ago. That's okay though, every group and band needs to be able to change, grow and evolve with the times. These ladies are total content machines and they work at a great company that lets them do some things that other K-Pop Idols are not allowed to do. Being the professionals that they are, they continuously improve on their entertainment craft! They are also HILARIOUS in their behind-the-scenes videos and other things outside of their music videos. They are just amazing humans. The pranks are funny, they are light-hearted and they treat each other like family. I luv them all to pieces! Many people talk about their biases in K-Pop or J-Pop groups, but I can't pick just one member of DreamCatcher and say 'this one is my favorite'. First off, that seems rude to me but also, I am a parent and you can't do that to your kids (play them against each other), it's unhealthy. ALL of these ladies are AWESOME so I just can't choose one over any other. I luv them each for different reasons, as individuals and as a group. :)

"Chase me" is one of their fastest songs at 200BPM, they have also said that it's their most challenging choreo that they have. Some songs just aren't for everyone, "Chase Me" is just one of those songs, you either like or not. No need to apologize for not LOVING it. Their other title songs are similar to Deja Vu and BEcause in terms of build up and pacing. They have amazing B-Sides as well highly recommend Red Sun, Jazz Bar, Whistle, New Days, Tension, Sleepwalking for a good mix of genres.

Dreamcatcher are very unique. They are the dark angels of Kpop and the only girl group who consistently incorporate Rock and Metal in their title tracks, fusing that with Kpop into something that basically is a new genre. They also are drenched in horror and social criticism, which again is special. Plus, they are massively talented, all of them. And while the girls look like they could rip your spine out when they are on stage, off stage they are adorable crackheads. 😉 "Chase me" is their debut, and the start of the 6-MV Nightmare arc, which can be interpreted as criticism of the Kpop industry. "Deja Vu" is nothing short of a masterpiece. It is a beautiful, fragile ballad that kicks your teeth down your throat in the chorus. By the way, the iconic "Holding this pain" part was sung by Handong. It is extra difficult to sort out, because it tells the story from two perspectives. You know how even evil people think they are the good guys? This is reflected here. One perspective is Yoohyeon's, who gets corrupted right in the beginning. She thinks JiU is bad (does not want to share power) and backstabs her and kills, imprisons or banishes the other members so that she can rule alone. The other perspective is reality, where we can see JiU be kind to Yoohyeon, but she gets killed for it. It's not exactly a Deja Vu per definition, but I believe this is a commentary on the different perspectives people can have about the same event. In BEcause, Dreamcatcher are outdoing themselves once again. Musically, the song is a fantastic journey. There actually are "cute" parts, but there also are parts where the guitars go full metal. The bridge with SuA's slow rap and Yoohyeon's adlibs is possibly the most beautiful one they have ever done. About the meaning: According to Dami, BEcause is about love becoming obsession. And also, this is a stand-alone story. They go back to their horror roots, which I really enjoy. They noted that if you look at "BE" as a written Chinese character "悲“, that would mean "sadness". So the song title would mean "The Cause of Sadness". And that would make the lyric "because I like you" to maybe mean "the cause of sadness is I like you". The video picks up on that. JiU seems to be the puppet master here (or her doppelganger!). She is the one trapping the other members and turning them into puppets, but Gahyeon tries to escape (as you can see by her throwing off the cage right in the beginning). It seems JiU catches her again though, "because she likes her". And I didn't even touch on the references to the movie "Us" yet, there is so much going on. The lyrics are even creepier. SuA sings: "Your face turns blue, blue. Your expression is like ocean view.", hinting at strangulation due to the one being obsessed taking things way, way too far. Dreamcatcher are clearly not afraid to tackle the difficult subjects, and they do it masterfully here - again. For me, this is more than just pop, it is art.

Dude, they'll grow on you. You're right, they throw a ton at you at once, but when you've watched/listened a few times, you start to discover new layers, and things you didn't notice before. I'm an American rock fan, and a dreamcatcher fan, not a kpop fan. They are insanely talented, I don't know how much input on the creative process they have, but their support staff are all super talented as well.

Don't worry about making the anime OST vibes reference here with Dreamcatcher. All Insomnia know this is the vibe and we embrace because the girls do as well. They are extremely proud to have this sort of sound and for many of us, it's what drew us to them in the first place. Additionally, Insomnia have a reputation of being some of the nicest, most inclusive and least toxic fandoms in Kpop; so don't worry about anyone biting your head off when it comes to DC.. nice reaction!

Ayy you said you like Loona.. dreamcatcher and Loona have a lot of overlap in their fan bases because of the unique concept and high quality experimental music. im gonna say as a fan of jrock/visual kei/speed metal in general i absolutely adore chase me (ill admit some of its nostalgia bc i stanned these girls in 2017 lol) but ngl its super refreshing to see a reactor talk about them disliking a song and what they dislike about it !! i enjoy that you actually have a discussion about the music and things to say about it rather than just sitting through the song :-) i clicked on this video for deukae and im glad i did bc your reactions are rlly genuine and cool !!
Not sure if anyone put this in the other comments but the "BE" in BEcause is (from what I've heard) capitalized to represent the Korean word for sad/sadness (I believe). The song had been stated to represent the obsessive love of one for another and the sadness that comes from it not being reciprocated.

I would point out that at the beginning a lot of insomnias didn’t really like the anime comparisons. But, their beginnings were derived from jrock which is the primary music used in animes. So it’s a fair comparisons sound wise. Definitely check out their other stuff and their b-sides to try other sounds. Thanks for the reaction!

There's actually a korean drama called "Backstreet Rookie" where one of the members(Yoohyeon) and a guy from the same company as them got a little scene where they are in an arcade and they played DDR while Chase Me was playing.
They actually have a song that was used in an anime it’s called eclipse and was in the anime kings raid
I really like "BEcause", it includes all of DREAMCATCHER styles of music.
I'm begging you (even if you don't react to it) to watch their Singin Live for Boca, their vocals are absolutely insane and it gives me goosebumps every single time
The best way to introduce DC to new listeners is probably start them with Dystopi Trilogy (Scream, Boca, Odd Eye). That era was when their fanbase grew at much faster rate, meaning their sound at that time is much more loved by the masses. In no way Chase Me or earlier songs are bad, but the straight out rock sounds as the first impression maybe a bit of turn off for some to continue checking up on them.

As early dreamcatcher took much influence from japanese j-rock/j-metal it helps a ton if you are already somewhat into that style of music. i found my way from japanese rock to kpop through dreamcatcher as they are that perfect gateway. The selection was quite good for a brief overview over their sound through the eras. i would have included 'scream' as well between deja vu and because, but you cant have everything. 😉 solid and honest reaction though. There are so many things to love about Dreamcatcher, I can't even say them all -- but imnsho the best things are (1) their tight and complex choreo that is always intensely on point with the song, (2) their gorgeous music that combines rock sounds with diverse and fascinating classical influences, and features beautifully executed vocals covering the full range from delicate to powerful (Handong's rich alto voice is criminally under-appreciated), and (3) their well-conceived videos that explore challenging themes like ambivalence, alienation, obsession, and casual hate. Dreamcatcher, like Red Velvet, always do interesting things in a style all their own, and never follow the trends except to comment on them. And if I had to say which Kpop girl group seems most sincerely happy with each other and their work, it would be Dreamcatcher hands down. They are a genuine treasure.
I came here because as Dreamcatcher fan, this showed up in my feed. I'll agree that Chase Me is a bit of a different sound. And being that it's one of their earlier works, I think it also shows their growth. There's also so much going on in the MV that is adds to the hectic speed. You're allowed to not love everything. Boca was the first Dreamcatcher song I heard and then I went scrounging for the rest. I hope you enjoy the songs in Part 2. I love the BEcause lyrics/video/choreo because it has so many levels. I could go into so much on that song alone.

Small history regarding Dreamcatcher before they were Dreamcatcher they where a 5 member group called Minx. They had typical bubble gum pop concept which unfortunately they did become to popular and re- dubed as Dreamcatcher with 2 new member and an entirely new concept. Alot of peope are a bit iffy when it comes to Chase Me since it was their first time with the concept. Afterward the did become more comfortable with the concept and the writers found their flow

I can definitely see the Alice vibes in Because. They actually stated the video was inspired by the movie Us with the underground world and it was really cool catching all the similarities. Their whole discography is great and their videos are amazing

InSomnia agrees that most of their songs could go great with an anime! Chase Me is 200 bpm and even five years later, Dreamcatcher says the song is their hardest to dance to. DC is from a small company with a modest budget, especially at debut. Deja Vu got a huge budget update because of their collaboration with King's Raid. That got us pretty double suns ;-) As for the outfits in Deja Vu: those are iconic! And yes, they can all sing very, very well. For BEcause, the spelling is as such because the Chinese character 'BE' means 'sadness', which feeds into the vibe of the song. I agree with some of the other comments that you will enjoy the Dystopia storyline (Scream, Boca, and Odd Eye) if you like BEcause. Thank you for checking them out! ❤️
Dreamcatcher has a mountain of talent and it is ALL of them. Rock/metal is their home but they have the level of skill they can and do everything: jazz, reggae, ballad, EDM, drum and bass, etc. so I bet you'll find plenty of other likes. They started out with a different group name doing cute and 100% formula, didn't find success with it, flipped the script and created their own lane doing a style no one else is; that's pure rock n' roll in the traditional sense. Pink Fantasy also has a rock/metal sound, so DC isn't the only girl group with a rock/metal sound, but they were the first.
Some of Dreamcatcher's fan,In-Somnias, are upset too if the girls being compared to Anime songs. Dreamcatcher are actually liked it too if their songs reminded people of anime songs. I don't get it why they offended by that.
Speaking of DDR, their songs actually in that game in May/June 2017 iirc. But they cut the songs to only 2 minutes
When Dreamcatcher first debuted they were heavily influenced by J-Rock, so it's no surprise that people when they first discover Dreamcatcher say that it sounds like anime music. So you're not wrong in your assertion. They definitely got away from that style as you've seen by Deja Vu and BEcause. Hope to see more reactions for Dreamcatcher :)
The BE in BEcause means sadness in Chinese so the song could technically have an alternate title of "The cause of sadness" and it's about obsessive love gone wrong
Their earlier songs are fully rock but they tried to add other genres along with rock after their 5th title track which is "What" then after "What" all the title track has other genres mixed in like Pop, Ballad, Edm, Moombahton, etc.
I don't know how many times I've replayed the "This is super sad- DAMN!" part.
The reason (BE) is capitalized is because it means sad or sadness in Chinese or something like that.

Dreamcatcher has a very diverse discography. Their bsides are so damn good 👌it's okay if you don't like some of their songs that's normal 😄 by the way they're having a comeback now with their full album Apocalypse : Save Us so make sure to react to them 😉
Chase Me is very special, it's a statement, not just a song. You have to know that Dreamcatcher (DK) was a rebranding from an earlier group called Minx. Minx was TOTALLY different. Minx were going for the popular cute concept, and, because of various factors, didn't do so well. But the company believed in their girls and suggested a restart. DK were saying to the industry that they weren't just trying to be cute in a different way, they meant business and were going to walk their own path. At the time, girl groups were either cutsy or "girl crush" style (pretending to be badasses). DK was the first girl group to use rock as a signature sound and they wanted to be very clear about that. In a country were rock is not very popular it was a gutsy move (although, interestingly enough, Kpop was born from rock, _Seo Taiji and the Boys_ is considered the reason why Kpop exists, and he was heavily influenced by rock, check out one of his song covered by BTS: Come Back Home. DK also paid him an hommage with a cover of Shame of the Times). Also gutsy was restarting from a perceived failure, DK is the only Kpop group I know who did that successfully, The girls love their fans so much because they understand that without our support, their attempt at making it in the business would have left them with the taste of failure, twice (Minx and DK, if DK had failed). And we love them so much as well, it is a special fan/artist relationship. You said it would be a high level song in Dance Dance Revolution... correct! The girls all agree that Chase Me is their toughest song to dance, not because it is the most intricate, but because it is the fastest, they said 200 bpm. Try dancing that fast while singing on stage! Personally, because I love hard rock, Chase Me totally drew me in back in 2017. Dream on!

lol not everyone is going to love the early Dreamcatcher discography, but never the less, Dreamcatcher does have different genres of music besides the rock element, especially on their B- sides. I like them all, but personally i think it was the Deja Vu era that took the girls in a whole new direction on their music style. And as you seen, it was even more better the newer the tracks are.
