  • Yeah... Migraines aren't headaches. You can have an issue with chronic headaches, and if you have them, get them checked out. Basically, you're brain is an electric light show. It is miss-firing. Your visual, memory, language, and motor-control/balance centers experience suppressed activity (they can't function correctly because they are under-volt) On the other hand, your physical impulse control (the part that stops you shaking), muscle memory, association (as in ability to link concepts), signal processing, and literal *seat of human consciousness* are all being short circuited by significant increases in brain activity. Migraines cause mood swings, cognitive impairment akin to drunkenness, temporary loss of memory, and loss of various levels of motor functionality (in extreme cases that can include temporary or partial paralysis) Now, do I think Nylander has migraines which are exceptionally severe? No. But I know that I have *modest* migraines and would be unsafe to handle a kitchen knife, let alone play a hockey game.

  • I have the unfortunate affliction of being a lifelong Cubs and Leafs fan. I’m telling you it’s worth the wait. It’s worth the years of suffering, just for that feeling when they finally do it. When the cubs won I screamed and then cried. I cried because my dad was a Cubs fan and never saw them win. I watched all their games with his watch, just the way I watch all the Leafs games. That’s why this team means so much. I can stay onboard because I’m telling you it’s WORTH IT, when they finally win.

I’m not a Leaf’s fan (find the drama fascinating amongst Leaf’s fans), but I wish the same joy I felt when Dallas won in 1999.(although Hull was a weeeeeee bit in the crease. • Knies, he's our special boy, protect him at all cost- wait.. Knies doesn't need to be protected, the kid can handle himself. What throws me off so much is the kids maturity continues to climb with every season, at such a rapid pace. Dude is 21 with the sense of a man well into his early 30's. Give it a couple more seasons and he'll be an absolute force on the ice. Reminds me of Tucker, just a little bit.

When McMann is back, he slides in for either Rob or Holm. Replace Rob if you want bang and crash. Replace Holm if you want a line of shooters.

  • Can Vegas vs. Dallas get some love here, please? It's literally the 1 series you didn't discuss, despite being really the only truly competitive series every single game. I know they always say "We just don't have enough time to do it" but guys, you talked about EVERY other series except the best one of the entire first round. I guess it's the curse of being a southern team that they just don't get the same love, but both Dallas and Vegas are interesting and have tons of storylines. It's been an incredibly chippy, back and forth series. Best of the entire 1st round. I don't know why Colorado and Winnipeg needs 2 separate segments and 20 minutes of time if it causes you to entirely neglect an entire series between the Knights and Dallas.

That said, there is a tiny bit of sour grapes among Ranger fans, in that many (not all) of us feel that, when Hockey media/blogosphere talks about the team, it's often a bit dismissive; they often are absent from Cup predictions, or regarded as inferior to other contending teams, because of some weird analytics stat, or some other arcana.

  • Irt the migraines thing, actually it's kinda the opposite, plenty of people don't realize their headaches are migraines. It's possible to have ones that are just moderate. They can get REALLY bad but they can also just be like, kind of a bad headache where you're light-sensitive and feel kinda shitty physically but you can still pop some ibuprofen and do stuff. I used to think that only the absolutele worst headaches I'd ever gotten where i had to be in the pitch black and could barely move and threw up were the only ones that were migraines but they're actually pretty weird. You can even get migraines without pain where it's weird auras and other body effects. Plenty of people don't get auras ever or don't until one day they do. Someone whose migraines are majority kinda moderate doesn't take away from the experiences of people who get pretty much exclusively super nasty, severe ones, it's just bodies being weird.

  • My granma used to have severe migraines when i was little. She would be decked on the couch and go up to vomit like 2-4 times an hour. Obviously there should be varying degrees but yes, people seem to be using migraine for a headache the same way the use flu for a stuffy nose or a cough.

Now there is also this INCREDIBLE desire from Leafs fans to see us win one. The city would literally have to shut down if it ever happened and people want it so badly.... So you get the very high frustration level VS. the incredible desire to see this drought end and this is why you get the extreme reactions. If we do in fact lose this game, or the next game, or the next series or perhaps even the NEXT series fans are going to want this blown up for reason # 1. If by some tear in the time space continuum we come back to win this series and they go all the way to winning the cup - all hell will break loose in Toronto. Men crying in the streets, dogs sleeping with cats etc... for reason # 2 It is just how it is in Toronto with the 57 year wait.

  • Bowness' Dallas did well against the Flames defensively a couple years ago, it went to game 7 and the Flames players said it was a really hard series. But Dallas was outchanced heavily so even if they stole the series, no chance they go deep. Jets weren't able to keep the puck out this year, but I don't think the biggest problem with Bowness system is the defensive work. It's the inability to put the other team on their heels. If you can't do that then teams like Vegas and Colorado will have no problem beating you. Especially the Avs pace just overwhelmed them. Jets need to get faster. Problem is they haven't been able to do that. Maurice preached playing fast towards the end of this tenure, they did it sometimes but could never sustain it, and Maurice jumped ship himself recognizing they just can't do what he wants them to do, and now he's with the Panthers having success. On top of that, the Jets defense isn't even that good. You can make a case that they don't have any #2-3 caliber guys for a contending team. That kind of contradicts their team identity, and was really exposed in this series.

  • One of these days my commentary will make the pod. The Marner situation is the same game the Red Wings had with Keith Primeau. Obviously they aren’t the same player. But hear me out. For years, people would go crazy on Primeau for not being this big, mean guy in the playoffs. But it just wasn’t his game. He was a hulking center but he was just “nice.” He wasn’t a power forward and flipping the playoff switch meant nothing. Asking him to be a fish that climbed trees didn’t work. So the Wings traded him, Coffey, and a 1st for Shanahan. Marner is a great regular season player. He is an average playoff player. Regardless of what happens, he needs a change of scenery to evolve.

  • On the migraine issue: started getting them within the last year, and at least in my case, mine start with what looks like a kaleidoscope in the middle of my field of vision for 30-60 minutes and then the worst headache pain. Others I know have no peripheral vision at all during that first part of the migraine. Not presuming to know what’s going on with Willy, but if its something like my experience or the other people I know, then I can definitely get not playing him. Playing through a broken bone is one thing, but playing when you literally can’t see fully is a categorically different decision to make

  • This past win is NOT going to help the team, it will do the opposite. If we lost and we were out, then the owners would have had to make coach changes and a few roster changes. But now, they don't have to. So, we're stuck now probably for the next 3 years holding onto this same problem. The best thing that could have happened was a blowout last game.

  • Winnipeg in the playoffs often looks like a team that's just happy to be there, although they played a bit better last night, while you get teams like Colorado who seem like they're just waiting for the regular season to end so the real hockey can begin. One of the problems the Jets have is that they dive like crazy for powerplays, something that doesn't work for them in the playoffs. Tampa Bay have been buying high on players a lot of other teams didn't even know were available, because they want to address depth needs instead of just trying to snag the best player available at the trade deadline. It worked better when there were less needs. The problem they had this season was losing the gamble of not getting a better stop gap goalie to fill in while they waited for Vasilevskiy to come back from the IR. That meant not finishing higher in the standings and avoiding Florida in the first round.

  • Has anyone discussed that toronto ended up signing that russian player grebyonkin that some teams had interest in. Im pretty sure hes got pretty good size to him and could slot into a third/ fourth line role, maybe higher. They signed him effective this season which will burn a year of his ELC but that another great cost vs production signing for the next two years

  • Honestly a little disappointed yall didn't touch on the TBL/FLA game more. I wanted to hear yalls opinions on them, cause killed whatever little momentum they had. Their power play was worst than the leafs this playoffs, and what ultimately cost them. But the game would've looked much differently if the goals counted (and they should've counted, honestly)
