My name is Abbie Emmons I teach writers how to make their stories matter by harnessing the power and psychology of storytelling, transforming their ideas into a masterpiece, and creating a lifestyle that makes their author dreams come true.
Story isn’t about “what happens” - it’s about how what happens affects and transforms the characters. I believe that there is an exact science (a recipe, if you will) behind a perfect story. And if you know what ingredients you need, you can create your own perfect story with ease and confidence. • I took a writing retreat on an Amtrak train last summer, 3 days & nights in roomette by myself, from LA to NYC. It was amazing and I got a lot of writing done. There's literally nothing else to do, besides stare out the window, your meals are brought to you (and the food is pretty good), and there's such a sense of peace as the world passes by, which is unexpectedly inspiring. I'm doing it again in April, but the reverse this time, NYC to LA. If you don't get motion sickness, I highly recommend it!

  • omg I love these immersive writing videos! some ideas for future ones (just because it's fun to come up with ideas for these hahaha) : 1) house on the coast, a window from which you can see the sea and hear the waves and seagulls 2) a solitaire diner in the middle of nowhere, with retro decor, the occasional sounds of coffee brewing, the clicking of plates, etc 3) a picnic in a forest on a warm day, the sun filtering through the branches, the sounds of birds and nature 4) the sparse rooftop of a building in a busy city alive at nighttime, from which you can see the skyline, the lights, hear the sounds of traffic and the muffled noise that comes from big cities

Sounds of the fire plus the muffled street sounds at twilight and as the writing session progresses it gets slowly darker. If I knew how I’d put that together myself!

I've been returning to this one every day for the last couple of weeks while working and today, the dog is playing on the landing with a squeaky chew toy and there are road works with diggers and trucks outside the window. I'm working on my Master's with a deadline in a few days and I would be in trouble without this on the headphones. Before anyone says 'get back to work', I'm writing this message on the 5-minute break! Thank you for this, Abbie. Wonderful work.

  • My favorite paragraph in my novel is The door creaked as the rain slowly rolled in three cars pulled in. The head lights were shining through the tiny peep in the curtain. Our dog was wagging her tail. Jayden, Lacey and Jordan came in and Devi hugged Lacey as the power turned off the sound of silence was inevitable. Jayden came up to Levi and hugged him really tight. I looked at my watch and it was 8:30pm. “Levi go to my room and lay down.” I said “Okay!” He said as he skipped into my bedroom. Cayden came home with eight more sleeping bags and twenty blankets. As the sound of the soothing rain was dimming down. Your vids are amazing keep up the hard work!

  • I need to add these immersive sessions... create a play list out of them, and then make specific times every day to listen and work. Good for something timed with breaks to keep me on track with both writing, and not overshooting the time when I have to get ready for work.

  • I just got back to work on a nonfiction book I've been writing, so this discovery came at a great time :-)

  • Really good choice of music. This helped me going at work! No anxiety or energy crashes for me! Fantastic tool! I skip the breaks personally because the songs really draw me!

  • I so appreciate finding this video. It's helping me write my novella. There's something about getting lost in a story---how it almost writes itself and tells you where it wants to go...what it wants to be.

  • This is so genuinely helpful. I’m one of those people that start a hundred pieces that I’ll never finish but the timed marks for breaks and writing keep me focused in a way I usually struggle to be. Also this helps with some tedious stuff at work in Excel. Thirty minutes of plowing through it then five minutes of other stuff like emails really helps me to get stuff done that I’d normally just spin my wheels in.

  • I've been listening to this so much during the last days, because wether it is actual writing that I'm doing or just writing into my diary or getting stuff for my day job done.. it's so immensly calming and helps to focus. Thank's so much for this wonderful soundtrack to my productiveness!

  • I wish I had found this sooner! It helps me focus on my work and take small brakes. I'm so happy you have a whole playlist with more of this. Thank you!! It will help out a lot ❤

  • Honestly this is also good for studying. I remember that this specific video helped me to focus before more than once (usually the music I found is boring, not appropiate for the ambience or kinda "moving", I mean, I started daydreaming, not focusing at all), and now I found it again, so thank you!!

  • These immersives are wonderful! I had to edit a presentation for work and I put this on. First time listening to something like this. Took classical piano for nine years while in school but haven’t touched a piano in years. I could swear I felt my brain waves change! My next writing session, I will definitely try either this one or the cozy place by the sea one. I can already tell it will benefit my output. 😃

  • Trying to write my book again after a time while on my lunch break in my truck is proving difficult. And now thunder roars nearby, and my windows are open because the day is hot. Didn't think it would Storm today. Along with this music, this is feeling a bit like a wabi-sabi moment. As I sit here, giving my back a rest, and letting the rain hit my neck through the window and watching the trees in front of me dance with the wind, I feel in tune with nature. Yeah, I'm going to keep writing.
