Carole King has been one of my favorites since early 70s, my college days. Tapestry is one of the best albums ever recorded.
Agreed.
I used to listen to it over and over.
Agree. I played that so many times.
Still turn it up when it comes on the radio in the car, takes me back.💕
Yes, absolutely! ❤
Many people have commented that the Shirelles sang it first. Yes, but Carole King wrote it (with her then husband Gerry). Carole King was being honored for the songs she WROTE and sang. It was so fitting that our current superstar Singer Songwriter Taylor sang this song.
The Shirelles recorded “WYSLMT” in 1960. Carole King wrote the music & her husband, Gerry Goffin, wrote the lyrics.
I have heard Carole say several times, that she considers herself to be a writer, first and foremost. The number of songs she has written is incredible. NOTE; if you get a chance to attend the Broadway Production, "Beautiful", based on Carole's life I highly recommend it.
taylor looks hot in that black outfit ❤
Taylor has written songs for other artists too. Like Rihanna…
Taylor sang it beautiful! Kudos ❤
Taylor's performance was a tribute not a competition. Why can't we just enjoy......
Right on..more positivity..this is the first TS Song I've ever heard..she's good!!
Yes we can just enjoy it! I’m a 60 year old life long Carole King fan and she did it Justice! Forget the haters and just enjoy!
Comparisons are not competitions. We like some versions more than others. A superstar "cover" will rarely be as moving as the original.
@@katwashere194 Haters? No. I like it, but for any musician it's the unfortunate substitution of a minor chord in a key place. Still a good song.
@@katwashere194 -- OMG . . . a 60-year-old as we live and breathe?! That's like 101.6949% of 59, huh?! 😁
Honestly this is the first time I ever heard Taylor Swift Sing. Boomer here. I only tuned in because I knew the song. Taylor did a great job with this old classic. Taylor has a great voice and I should check out more of her songs.
This performance was pitch corrected before being uploaded. There's some fan recordings and she's very off with some notes Her work is nice though, Folklore and Evermore especially
@@Dottor_J and reputation bruh
@@Dottor_Jnot u saying that based on phone recordings 😂 phone recording of live performance never do justice as the pick the sound of the speaker + crowd. The uploaded performance is sound picked by mic , not everything is about pitch correction etc
Why don't you do a Brill building tribute? Also some old country stuff.
An amazing cover of this beautiful song! I love Carole King and it’s so fitting to have Taylor, probably one of our most talented and prolific songwriters today, to pay tribute to her and present her with this award. Carole calls Taylor her “professional granddaughter,” which I think is so sweet. They have such respect for each other.
And Taylor was named after Carole's friend James Taylor.
I don't find it amazing at all. It has no richness or depth. I've heard karaoke singers do a better coveer.
@@miked7304 Agree totally. There was on Feels at all in this rendition and also comparing her song writing to Carol King's is sacrilige lmao
@@mythrapi73Taylor is far above Carole King. And everyone else. She is the biggest star on the planet, bigger than any movie star.
I seriously hope you are kidding. Yes, she is a big star, but talent wise (singing and song writing) she takes a back seat to Carole King.@@razorback9926
What a truly amazing tribute to Carole King
Swift does a good job. There’s just nothing like this older music. Todays music just doesn’t even compare. All you have to do is just sing this music. It doesn’t need anything else.
The trademark of a well written song is that it can be arranged in a thousand different ways and still sound good.
This, 100% this. This is not my preferred style, but is still makes me feel something... damn.
except for this particular way
Not when it's supposed to be a tribute performance. Its an insult!!!
@@slimydick23This is best cover , just hating for political reasons i guess
@@Flixtex Taylor is not a politician
Carole King and James Taylor have been Taylor's role models....Songwriting is her love
Taylor Swift was named for James Taylor.
Taylor Swift was named after James Taylor, Carole King's bestie. Full circle ♥
I believe she is a lizard woman created by Obama and Fauci using mRNA. That explains why she is with Travis kelce, propaganda machine for Pfizer and himself a cyborg. If you look at his neck there is a bulge from the microchip
Carole was James’ piano player for a while. Then Tapestry was released and she became too famous.
False
@@daviddinkins8931 It’s absolutely true. James’ bass player, Leland Sklar, told me.
Who’s that playing piano in the background? Carole King! kzhead.info/sun/oal_lt6AoHeBe5E/bejne.htmlsi=sozn1N_aLgCiwunn
Taylor’s genre of music is not really my thing, but I’ve always appreciated her talent. After this performance, I’m not only a fan but may be considered a Swiftie! She rocked that outfit.
She won a record 4 Grammy AOTYs. Different genres for all 4. Surely at least one will suit you
I am definitely a Swiftie!
So nice younger people have a superstar to enjoy. Growing up on The Beatles and Carol King, I’m a Taylor fan too!
I think Carole would love this and she sure looks beautiful and happy! Great job Taylor Swift! Bravo to you both!❤
It’s ok but I’m still stuck in the 50’s …when we didn’t have auto tune..
@@TheFman43Taylor doesn't use or need autotune 😚
P
@@TheFman43Taylor sang live for Carole King on this night . We still have live orchestra also. Anyone who sings someone’s written music and lyrics would understand, that it should not end once one version has been released. Carol King also sang her song live before. I am impressed when a writer gives permission for their song to be performed. Dolly Parton gave Whitney Houston her permission. She could not give Col Parker any song-writing credit for “I Will Always Love You”, and he did not allow it. She would have so enjoyed hearing it, as would we all. Oh well. Just another reason for Elvis to be so unhappy with his longtime manager. Pricilla said he did sing it to her before they divorced. I think, now, with Dolly still alive, (to give permission) it would have been our pleasure to hear the song in the recent movie, “Pricilla”. Still, even the Beatles have permitted their original songs to be performed by others, and it is kind.
Did you watch the clip? Taylor literally sang to her. It was a tribute to Carol 🙄
I’ll be 69 this year,,, that song goes back. Taylor does it beautifully.
Another 69er CK + TS both fantastic
I also became 69 this year and Tapestry is my all time favourite album. Wonderful to see the youth embrace our music!
Though I'm 60...lve the modern treatment this is given. Taylor didn't overdo it. She is an honour to her generation. And perhaps democracy.
We’re the same age and I completely agree!!
Same on age and take. I enjoy her music, and although she may have limited vocal range, she is extremely skilled at exerting her singing capabilities - she uses the vocal instrument she has very well and movingly.
Y E S!
Just wish she sang just a little better.
Really? You "just wish she sang a little better?" Good grief. I "just wish people weren't so fricking insufferable."
One legend honoring another.
The song that was on "repeat" from the Tapestry album when I was in my teens and heartbroken. Taylor embodied that emotion...I'm fifteen again!
Yes! ❤️🥹
So true.
I still have that album, bought it for the album art and then was pleased that I loved several of the songs.
"Fifteen is the most difficult age" - Jean Giraudoux
Love that we got to see Carol King at the end of this. Wonderful performance from Taylor.
Bravo bravo bravo I was a Carole King fan still am born 1962. But Taylor Swift is part of our rock and roll history she's a legend bravo bravo❤
Carol King is amazing - and Taylor Swift did an awesome job honoring her work!!! Love it❤💜💙💚💛🙏
"Tonight you're mine, completely . . ." Immortal, evocative line. A million songwriters could dream of writing that line, but only Carol King did.
@JR-pr8jb -- The Dunning-Kruger Effect is alive and well.
actually her husband Gerry Goffin wrote the lyrics to it
What an incredible rendition of a classic song. Taylor Swift's magnetism, generosity and charisma is just staggering. What a beauty !
Okay I think she was
Not an easy song to sing but not as good as the original give her a for effort
Carole King is iconic performer n songwriter, n a superlative gift to music worldwide!!! Taylor Swift did great job with the song!! As she does with all her performances n songs!! Kudos to both ladies!!👍🫶🥰
Tapestry is a masterpiece and Carole King is the master. She had my heart at 6-years-old listening to my sister’s records.❤
I went away for a weekend as a teenager with my old man and brother in 2000. Dad was playing the Tapestry CD belonging to the owner of the rented house. He said 'because of the memories'.
❤
Listening to Carole King's Tapestry album made me an ardent fan from the 70s era onwards. Played it repeatedly on my Walkman n CD player for decades. I'm almost 75 now and still love to listen to her and other old time legends like Neil Diamond etc
Taylor Swift has said on more than one occasion she would rather be known for her songwriting than her singing. Choosing one of the greats--Carole King--to pay homage to makes complete sense. They both are shining, shining stars.
She's just a "Pepsi" ad-like model. Her parents recognized they had another 'breathy-sexy' phenomenon/product on their hands. Then they masterfully took her to market. She couldn't write a full melody cogently from intro to outro. God bless her, but she just isn't an inveterate artist like Carol King or Joni Mitchell. She couldn't write a 'magic carpet' like Joni's "Woodstock" to save her life.
@@billboyle1588 the 243 songs she's written would suggest otherwise
@@carolynjohnson2326 She didn't write them by herself. Those of you not in the music business just do not understand.
@@janettucker1235 1. I never said she wrote them all by herself. Even the best songwriters collaborated. 2. IDK (and IDC) if you're in the music business, but your reply seems a bit pompous.
@@cpj0303 It isn't just that she didn't write them by herself.. she's highly produced and manufactured on an ever grander scale... and her voice is average... little range, no power and not much soul... and writes about failed relationships all the time...granted I do not know all her music but I can tell you she lip synced to her own voice at the Grammy's. They all do it now... it wasn't so before digital... things have changed a lot in the last 40 years.
I've loved Carol King since I started listening to her in the early 70s. Simply a legend.
I was addicted to her Tapestry album. Loved all the songs, knew the lyrics to all. I still listen to it even though I'm in my 70s. 😅
It’s interesting how a lot of folks expose their jealousy or insecurity or pettiness by denigrating someone who is obviously so much more successful and/or talented than they are. Even if you don’t agree with Taylor Swift’s politics (I don’t) or feel she has too much money (she earned every dollar), or is too pretty (well, she just is) she has worked very hard to make it look so easy. If you believe anyone could do it, there are lots of empty stadiums in the world just waiting for YOU to come and sell them out night after night. Go for it! Talor Swift is only the latest example of this envy, but before her there have been many. Michael Jackson, Prince, the Beatles, Elvis, and others too numerous to name have put up with this pettiness; it goes way back. “Mozart is OK I guess, but he’s no Beethoven”. She makes music that most people enjoy (maybe not you, but most). She doesn’t hurt a single soul but helps many. Her time will eventually pass and the next phenom will arise. While she is working to entertain you, just enjoy the show. Stop making yourself look so petty.
Well said! Im tired of haters coming on to Taylor Swift videos and leaving rude comments, their bitterness is palpable. You're 100% correct
Well said! Hatefuleness only tells us about the hater, and nothing good. Pettiness and snottiness towards someone you don't even know says to the rest of us that you are small and unhappy. If you are not a fan of her music, that's fine because not everyone is a fan or open to listening to anything but one or two genres, so just say THAT! Saying you hate TAYLOR herself and you don't even know her personally or because you are listening to some gossip rag that hates Taylor (they don't personally know Taylor either)? How sheep-like! Haters are the epitome of sheeple!
Taylor is flawless and charming in her delivery and presentation of the song--and I love her sweet little homage to Carole at the end...all through the song, really. :)
I am a swift now. I truly admire this woman.
Love Taylor’s cover of this song. I’ve loved Carole King’s songs since I was a young girl. I think it’s wonderful that today’s songbirds bring back classic songs so the next generation(s) can appreciate and relate to them.
"Tapestry" is one of my all-time favorite albums and "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" is Carole King's best song IMO. Taylor's version has much respect to the original, yet it has her personality within.
I had Tapestry on a cassette tape and listened to it over and over while on cruise when I was in the Navy. It got to the point where I automatically knew which song was coming up when another one ended.
TAYLOR SWIFT CAN SING WHAT EVER SHE WANTS, THE WORLD WILL LISTEN!♥️. BEAUTIFUL!
Learning more gradually about TS and very happy to see and Hear! such beauty! Fantastic performer. Honest. Caring. Sane! At 73 and not especially well, it's a great feeling to find a young person like her. I worry less for the world! ...blessed 🐝 to Taylor and her family, crew, fans, friends, Swifties (inc me now)...To Infinity And Beyond!!!!...
This is the first time I have made a conscious effort to listen to anything that Taylor Swift has sung even though I am a big fan of hers. After this performance I will make an effort to listen to more of her material.
Just a reccomendation from someone whose been a fan of her for her entire career (despite not really listening to country since childhood): If you like this, the vibe from this is very "Midnights," if that's what you like. If you're interested in seeing the very best of her work as a songwriter, I highly suggest "Evermore" and "Folklore." "Epiphany" is the song that I hope, 100 years from now, she's remembered for. It's absolutely incredible, but *very* hard to listen to on a regular basis because it's about healthcare workers & the pandemic, and it is brutal. But *insanely* good.
Voice is like everyone else's. If you would have closed your eyes and didn't know it was her, bet you wouldn't have said it was her, nothing special, oh hum. I guess she paid millions to promote her because there is nothing more in her voice than anyone that can't sing today trying to make it, the good singers have all died off or elderly. Carole King sang it better.
Cope. 4 Grammy AOTY winner now. Carole King has only 1 good album, Tapestry. Taylor >>>> Carole
Listen to a video of her Tiny Desk concert on NPR. I have not been a huge TS fan mostly because her singing has always sound weird. It is the autotune they put on all her songs. Listen to her JUST SING (without all the electronic crap added on top). She is actually quite good and I wish she would sing that way ALL the time. She doesn't NEED the crutches, those are for people who CAN'T sing. Taylor can and I just wish all her songs were recorded without it so we could hear her actual VOICE, not an electronite sampling of it. Sigh...
@@wilcox728 Funny that you say this because I don't think her voice sounds like anyone else's voice in the business, so I could definitely pick her out of a line-up of people who think that the more complicated runs they do, the more loved they will be. I like songs that I can sing along with and not have to stop because, uh-oh, this or that artist is doing some run that goes on for two minutes or hitting a high note that could crack glass. Taylor isn't just the sum of her voice though, but writes and produces her own songs as well which is something that most of the artists out there don't even do. She writes thought-provoking songs that are art because she paints with words on the tapestry of her life and puts us all right there in the moment with her, while also writing songs that are totally relatable in our own lives, which is another reason that she is so beloved and has so many fans. But you would know this if you spent as much time doing the research on her artistry as you do leaving negative comments about her. Did someone blonde and tall hurt you? Here's a hug... 🤗
Great performance of an iconic song. Carol King has produced SO many wonderful songs and treasured music. When I moved away from home to go to school, I listened to the Tapestry album over and over.
I love this about You!!!
The mention of the Tapestry album rang a bell for me. I remember having bought it when it was brand new. Great album!

What a delight seeing Carole King's reaction to Swift's performance. Two super talents.
I've heard many, many versions of this song by so many artists. None can touch The Shirelles recording for me. It's just gorgeous.

Carole King looks fantastic! Beautiful energy.
Oh my gosh. Taylor can sing anything...amazing.
@@janettucker1235 lol how do you know it was pre-recorded?- you don't-and its not. she was very obviously singing, and you can hear her breathing and some note imperfections. and of course she can sing, she is the biggest artist in the world and if you think she can't sing based off this performance you are tone deaf
@@ellalynntaylor You seem obsessed with Taylor.
@@ellalynntaylor Every single artist has their stuff prerecorded. They re used more often than the audience has any idea. Concerts are scheduled and what happens if the artist is not in top voice or sinus's are bothering them or any number of things. In years past, concerts would have to be cancelled but digitization has changed all that.
I didn’t listen to her until she came to Australia . I then found out she was in an absolute class of her own . As an Entertainer she is just sublime & unique . This is without doubt the best version I have heard of this song . She is pure class too.

Beautiful song, Taylor did a great job singing this song 💜💜💜
It's not always about the voice, it's about the presentation. I'm old (really) but Ms. Swift is one of my favorites. Years ago, I was part of the singing cast of a local presentation of the stage version of Tapestry and been a devotee of Carole King ever since.
I find it funny all these people in the comments who Love Carol King but don’t get she is very good friends with Taylor. She asked Taylor to do this performance because she sees alot of herself in Taylor.

Awesome job Taylor. So glad Carol King wrote such an incredible song!!!!!!!
Carole King is a Terrific Singer and Songwriter. Taylor, you did a Great Version. Thank you and Carole King.!!
Carole King has more talent in her little finger than Taylor could ever dream of having. Just because she's a billionaire doesn't mean anything to me. She can't compare to the likes of the GOAT
@@mythrapi73 There's a reason Taylor Swift is the biggest pop star in the world right now and it's certainly not because she lacks talent.

Beautifully done…stunning ❤
I've got to give Taylor Swift props for working harder than any other artist. She has to work so hard to control her pitch in songs like this. When she first started performing she never could have pulled off this song, but her she is doing a great job and integrating a creative arrangement to bolster her performance. She is one artist that never rests. She keeps striving to be better and better. I admire that about her and I am glad she is rewarded with such a huge fan base and such commercial success.

Damn people, chill! Noones dissing The Shirelles but this was a tribute to the great Carol King. The writer, and singer. She wrote this song and yes The Shirelles had a pretty decent hit with it. But nowhere near the super hit Carol had when she rereleased it herself. And if you asked them, I'm sure they would be among the first to give all credence to Carol King for giving them a hit to add to their resume.
I am so happy for her to have found an honest and complete love, and with a man that can and will protect her always! Plus for him to have the special lady she is and only deserves the best, which she has found in you!! ALWAYS be kind to each other and never go to bed with anger in your heart.
Carol had a hand in so many great songs. Taylor Swift is a fitting choice for this tribute.
Oh, this was a very good rendition, Taylor certainly made it her own! I love the sad, melancholic tone of the original song with Carole King voice matching it perfectly. This cover however perfectly matches Taylor's style and voice, it's almost as if it's one of hers!
The Shirelles did it BEST !!!!

TS nailed this song. Some folks make too much about who writes a song or who did it first. Those facts can be interesting. Some people write songs Some arrange and some sing. Some of the greatest singers never wrote a note, that doesn't diminish the talent.
Great song and Great costume
Good Job Taylor😊
I have the tapestry album still... And play it♥️
