The Forced Evolutionary Virus | Fallout Lore

The Forced Evolutionary Virus, also known as FEV, is a virus artificially created by West Tek's Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Division. The virus’s ability to change an individual’s observable traits and genes has made it one of the most important mutagens known to man. Harnessed both before and after the Great War, for reasons both noble and sinister. But what is FEV, to quote Father Elijah it a long story, FEV…a virus with an even longer story, so let’s take a look at how the virus came to be, what it was used for, and who by and hopefully by the end of the video we’ll have a much better understanding.

  • The one thing that I couldn’t understand is: Why did the Institute kill the remainder of those in Vault 111? Their pods were turned off if the computer terminals can be believed. The Institute after 200 years may have a dangerously narrow gene pool. Here you have a gene pool closer to your own with those educated at a level way above those in the Commonwealth without possible genetic mutations. Also, they could have been dispersed into the Institute’s population by family units to ease assimilation. Those that had certain genetic disease could have been left behind until it could be addressed by their medical practices. That is, unless they could be of benefit to the Institute due to certain knowledges or abilities.

    • Wasn't Shaun the only one with a pure genetic strain ? I think I can recall that they didn't use the other people in Vault 111 because they had varying kinds of genetic impurities (including the sole survivor) and thus were of little interest for the institute.

      @leviathanforge@leviathanforge Жыл бұрын
    • @@leviathanforge Shaun is to donate DNA for the 3rd Generation Synth project, but the whole population of the Institute is also of concern if the Director would take his blinders off. There couldn’t be more than 200 faculty and students that began the Institute. After 10 generations the genetics of the Institute’s population would make all residents 2nd or 3rd cousins. Every one is related to everyone else. Birth defects and other genetic abnormalities would begin to rise greater in this isolated population. Probably more if the initial population came from primarily the physical sciences with less from the medical and biological sciences. The “residents” of Vault 111 would add to the genetic diversity of the general population without a notice from the rest of the Commonwealth as they are unknown. This helps with the security and secrecy of the Institute as well.

  • The super mutants in Fallout 1/2 were terrifying in my opinion since most of them were pretty intelligent, And that combined with their strength made them pretty formidable.

    • Even for the ones with shit intelligence, their ability to destroy not only you, but your entire party, in 1-2 hits, sending your health into the *negatives*, made them more terrifying than even Dealthclaws to me. A regular mutant in Fallout 1/2 is like fighting a group of mutant behemoths in 3 but with miniguns

    • I want that back in the next game. Intelligent ones or dumb ones. As long as they are a viable threat. In general i want the monsters of the wasteland to be dangerous to the player like the lore implies. Imagine a roving band of mutants you have to avoid for a large part of the game. Or if deathclaws were rare again but every single one felt like a boss.

Where he became stuck to the ground and transformed into a massive Mutant tree, able too survive and pollinate the radioactive wasteland. It's such a cool and weird concept that the Fallout show needs too bring up
