The Beatles performing "Don't Let Me Down.”
Written by John as an expression of his love for Yoko Ono, the song is heartfelt and passionate. As John told Rolling Stone magazine in 1970, “When it gets down to it, when you’re drowning, you don’t say, ‘I would be incredibly pleased if someone would have the foresight to notice me drowning and come and help me,’ you just scream.”
During filming on the roof of Apple, two days after the recording of the track, the band played ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ right after doing two versions of 'Get Back’ and it led straight into 'I’ve Got A Feeling’. Michael Lindsay-Hogg was once again directing a Beatles’ shoot. He and Paul met regularly at the tail end of 1968, while Hogg was directing The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus, to discuss the filming of The Beatles’ session in January. By the time that fateful Thursday came around, the penultimate day of January would be the last time The Beatles ever played together in front of any kind of audience.
This is not the version of ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ heard on the single but the version from the Let It Be… Naked album - a composite of both versions that were performed on the roof of Apple in Savile Row

One of the best performances in history of live singing.
This video kills me. They all knew it was over by then. Yet. The looks they gave each other. The happiness. The joy of making music one last time even though it was the end. It's one of the most profound pure emotional segments in history that, I don't know how to word it. It kills me. Love it!!!
Marcus Irwin why was it the last time
+Nicole Barret It was their last performance. They hadn't been on tour since 1966. They were a studio band by then and didn't play concerts. It's obvious that this made them feel good again because it was just them up there playing music together like it used to be. No egos fighting for their creative input. But as far as the breakup later that year every member has said that they pretty much knew it was over. There were constant fights between John and Paul. John knew for sure. He's the one that broke and announced he was quitting. Just one of those things.
Marcus Irwin oh that's quite sad Actually I thought that they all got on good Well anyway all good things must come to an end
+Nicole Barrett I think they all stayed friends. It was really more like sibling rivalry. It was mainly John and Paul. George and Ringo kind of just said that they were just sick of John and Paul fighting. Also, they were pretty lost when Brian Epstein died of a drug overdose. John was always the leader of the band, but ever since Sgt. Pepper, Paul started taking the reins quite a bit more. You know, just tensions between strong willed creative geniuses. Of course, don't forget Yoko. They were like 4 brothers and then all of a sudden John starts bringing this weird woman to their writing and performing sessions who wasn't shy about giving her opinions about their actual creative process. I can't even imagine how awful that must have been for the other three, especially Paul. What a complete nightmare. So, yeah. Quite sad. So for all of that, it's why people watch this little roof top concert with such reverence. By the way, you're British, aren't you?
+Bobby Stinklehoffer That's great stuff, Bobby. You know what I love? That after almost 50 years, everyone is still so intrigued by it all. They truly were out of this world. :)

End of the band performance one of the best rock videos ever! Essential Beatles!
Don't let me down, don't let me down. Don't let me down, don't let me down. Nobody ever loved me like she does, oo she does, yes she does. And if somebody loved me like she do me, ooh she do me, yes, she does. I'm in love for the first time Don't you know it's gonna last It's a love that lasts forever It's a love that had no past Don't let me down Hey, don't let me down Don't let me down Don't let me down And from the first time that she really done me Oo she done me, she done me good I guess nobody ever really done me Oo she done me, she done me good

Songs
Watching Lennon and McCartney smiling at each other during this song, when they were together just doing music with no outside BS going on, is magical. They knew, they just knew ...
The cameraman in George’s groin didn’t help either. Lol
They even kept looking at each other when the other wasn’t just to see if they would be looking at each other again
omg, yes.
Google global truth project and read "the Present" to see the truth about life/death. Nothing is more important than checking it is true, especially pgs 1-4
But they loved each other like brothers
the way john lets out that little "eeeh heee" at the end when billy preston is shredding the keys to finish the song is the mood we all wish we were in all the time
Some characters just come, do things and that becomes history. They themselves don't know what is this mystery. But the bond between music and soul is a special chemistry.
Hey you should look up a band called The Doublejumps if you like The Beatles
Stunning, no matter what decade you're listening to it.
agreed
@@abolishgovernment Yeah every time hits different i don't know how to explain
Certainly dispels the ridiculous notion that crept up over the decades that they had become “a not so good live band!”
IT's so actual as it would be today. Timeless
@@scottamichie Even if it were true it wouldnt diminish them. In todays world of 'instant legends" we see here 'the real thing'.
I never realized how much Billy Prestons' piano drives this song.
The unofficial 5th one of the Fab Four
Such a gospel influence
Me either. It really does.
True!!!
Prestons playing is magical
love this song
Blown Away totally Awesome to watch this video of the BEATLES !
It must be really strange to be someone like Paul McCartney, and to look back at your life and see the enormous influence you have had on the world when you started out as a twenty something who just wanted to be a successful musician and do what you loved for a living.
this comment deserves more likes
He was about 14 when he and John first started a band 🙂
@@cookface Yeah he's been going strong since the fifties...and a legend in England since '63 and here 64.
He talked about that on conan
Incredible, thanks for that spot
One of the best demonstrations of a perfect BASSIST in all of HISTORY. THE BEST BASS RIFF
And he wasn’t even one by choice. He only picked it up because the band needed a bassist.
Came to say the same. He really was in it only for the music. @@santijauregui459
@@santijauregui459yeah it’s honorable he would do that and he came out to be the most famous bassist ever!
Check out “She’s So Heavy” bass track, too! 🎉
not gonna lie, whoever was on the keys was holding it down
Remembering my youth. Good times.
Greatest band and song writing group, ever.
There is nothing cooler than "The Beatles on the roof". Paul looks exceptionally cool here.
I'd be honored if some Beatles fans would give a quick listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of BLACKBIRD and PENNY LANE on my YT channel in tribute to 2 of the many genius compositions written by Sir Paul McCartney. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Peace and everybody stay safe. Show less

The only thing that comes close to being as cool is the temperature
I have wondered what the temp was I thought I was the only one 😂
@@lesliehobby7266 It was January. It was cold.
