Gentlemen's Day Out In London | Kirby Allison & Tom Chamberlin
After a long wait, Kirby was finally able to get back over to London. So to celebrate, he invited his good friend Tom Chamberlin, editor of The Rake magazine, to join him for a special 'Gentlemen's Day Out In London', doing a selection of their favorite activities. This gave them the perfect chance to catch up, and discuss the current situation for bespoke craftspeople and heritage firms through London.

@@djdc81 small parts yes but the rest is 3rd world
I have no desire to partake in the things this channel explores... yet I find myself enveloped in the content... strangely addictive
Yes I feel similarly. The world is in chaos, with food and power shortages looking a certainty, and these guys sornter around like they live in a parallel universe. Perverse and disgusting personalities, yet addictive to watch.
@@01menyou elaborate on the disgusting personalities…….
@@01menyou perverse and disgusting personalities - quite an accurate description. Kirby seems nice and genuine as opposed to Tom who just stares through people awkwardly. The guy intense
@@01menyou You need to get a more positive outlook on life, and some manners. The world has always been in chaos, and probably always will be. The good news is that, overall, the world is and has been constantly improving. For example poverty in the world has been cut in half since year 2000. Rich and good people are constantly doing something to improve the world. And yes, there is much more to do and is being done. But what should we and they do in the mean time? Should we all stop living, be unhappy and miserable because there are "food and power shortages" somewhere else? How will that help them or us? Sartorial life is what they are passionate about, just like someone else is passionate about video games, movies, or playing football. Should Lionel Messi and Ronaldo stop playing fotball and sit at home and cry about food and power shortages instead? If you plan to not be passionate about things until all world's major problems are resolved, you are going to die a very unhappy man.
@@01menyou Why are they perverse? He's telling you how to shave and the other guy likes to dress formally. What's the problem? Everybody gets to live how they wish in an open society. What's perverse is how other people treat others badly in the world, like is theft of labour by poor wages for work done etc. Slave labour sweat shops and so on.

@@ianpuddick Well, Ian Fleming was a customer of Floris, and when Floris released their No. 89 fragrance in 1951 it became Fleming's signature scent, or at least one he wore. I have Floris No. 89 and can attest that the scent profile seems very prototypically mid-century English Gentleman's Cologne. I have a lot of Floris fragrances: No. 89, Elite (my favorite), Honey Oud, Leather Oud, 1962, Neroli Voyage, Santal. Understated English elegance.
@@JT-rx1eo I am sad to hear that 1962 is discontinued. The greatest Floris scent in a very long time.
Kirby, you are an absolute gentleman and I respect what you are doing for the current generation. I remember travelling to Spain back in the late nineties and meeting some proper well-mannered British ladies and gentlemen. Now I come back to those places and don't see anyone quite like that... At first I though - maybe I don't go to the same kind of places I used to go... Where are these people? And a terrible thought struck me - these people are too old to travel or no longer alive. The tradition is slowly dying too. Thank you for preserving it. Greetings from Russia.
england is being destroyed by the multi cult-tourism and 'diversity' meaning everything that isnt european is favoured and everything that is must go. Very few are still holding culture and history togrether.
Unfortunately I think a large number of these traditions have ‘died’ because those who used to practise them use their traditions and practices to exclude others. THat needn’t be the case.

Hey Kirby, I just found your channel and absolutely love watching it. I’m glad to know there are still some quality products out there. I’ve just recently become interested in this to the point of actually looking for. And I’m glad your videos popped up. Thanks again
Thank you for allowing us to see facets of life that many of us don't have the ability to see. Love all you do and how craftsmanship is celebrated.
Thanks Kirby, I'm an industrial maintenance tech at Tesla, my Bates boots are always shiny, and I wear a pocket polo shirt always at work. Gotta just dress 10% better than everybody else. The raises and recognition come easy. (Not that hard in a factory).
Always dress appropriately...but better. That way you get noticed without standing outside of what is correct for your role. People make a judgement about you within moments for first meeting you. Getting that head start can make all the difference (just make sure you can back it up 😁).
Dressing yourself in the factory setting is never an overkill. Japanese will always have a locker and perhaps a shower in the factory office so they can change to dress up nicely after the shift. They won't use the same shirt in the factory floor with their commuting shirt and suit. Not just factory workers but also government employees even soldiers in the JSDF and police. You can meet a nicely dress gentlemen in Izakaya even though they're just clocking off their job on the factory floor or manning the security guard tower in an airbase or a firefighter.
'Gotta dress 10% better than everyone else.' Do you not realise how much of a wankr you sound like?

Its quite the american perspective on London/Europe isnt it?
Ha! That applies to every major city around the world. They all have nice/historic areas that get overused as filming locations (think Latin Quarter in Paris, City of Westminster in London, Manhattan in NY) but everywhere else in the city is very different to what you see in popular culture.

I really enjoyed the video and a few others I have watched. Whilst this day out may seem a little grand and perhaps Kirby does look very retro formal - I think he is passionate about heritage , craftsmanship, and the great history of London and he’s travelled a long way. It’s also his buisness and he is promoting something that needs preserving and to be fair is absolutely outstanding. I may not do all those things in one day , not BR able to afford to do them all in one day but I will do them all several times in my life time.

Great video Kirby It’s funny, because I really started watching your channel in earnest during the initial wave of the pandemic, as a way to calm down after long hours working at the hospital. And now, it is nice to see you out and about emerging in these videos. I don’t fool myself into thinking we’re back in to normalcy, but I can’t help but notice how much your channel and presence has grown in the last two years. Your Content is better, and you are making videos which look better, and you seem more at ease in these videos.
