Hermitcraft S10#8: Making Frogger In Minecraft

2024 ж. 2 Мам.

I finally got around to getting the Trident farm setup for Gem. Best of all, I found a way to automate separating the trident wielders from the regular drowns using an axolotl and a target block system.
Then we head back to work on the Frogger game where I show off a new 7-segment display I designed. We mainly focus decorating and getting the looks of our game figured out.

  • i recommend covering the 7 segment displays in tinted glass to make them easier to read. When you darken the display the off segments disappear but without it they are still there and visually noisy so it makes it harder for your brain to quickly decode the number. i.e it always looks like 8 to your brain until it can process which are on or off and decipher the real number. Stained glass kind of works for this but its not dark enough to get the effect. This is a problem that actually also exists in real life which is why seven segment displays often have a black transparent layer on top to make them legible.

    @Valentine570@Valentine57017 күн бұрын

Drowned aggro towards axolotls, hostile tridents activating target blocks, bubble column raising thrown tridents just enough, the axolotl hitbox being the right size for both getting the throw at the top of the block and line of sight still being possible, the list goes on.

Right now it works via a pressure plate on a block at the side of the track, but it only works since ravager hitboxes are so large; a vindicator wouldn’t trigger it. He’d have to switch it out for tripwires or observers w/string with T flip-flops which is a lot more hassle

  • As an extra level to keep this game relevant, you should a a desert theme with 4 block tall at most sand dunes where the rails follow up the dunes. This creates blind spots and makes the player want to follow the most difficult and blind path through the dunes that’s the fastest, otherwise they must jump up the dunes which is safer and you can find a route, but it’s slower and is something the players would need to consider. The wall art could be simple dunes and would add and additionally colour to your game. And to keep it difficult you could even run an extra level for double reward which is a similar concept to the desert but has flowing lava and the ravangers don’t follow a straight line, they follow the low paths between the volcanos, this would make the players want to scale the volcano but it’s slower and risky with the flowing lava blocking paths. Just an idea, who knows if you’ll even read this… always love the content!

  • In the frogger game, players could be charged individually for lives, so that the frog light reward is set based on points, but the cost is set based on purchased lives. The lives could also be calculated retrospectively, so that they pay afterwards based on how many times they died.

Like, pay him in diamonds individually packed in shulkers, or charge people for playing Frogger in a way that's not _technically_ an up front payment to split with Iskall, (like they buy tickets to play Frogger elsewhere and then you just give Iskall 20% of the tickets lmao) or have people pay for Frogger in something worthless, or something else. If Iskall is playing the trolling game, then its fair game to play dirty too!

  • That trident farm!-- I don't know but the way you spin out these new designs that are so simple but elegant and yet still *new* after all this time?... I get that same delighted feeling that I get when Bdubs shows us some new build innovation. And then you go and practically jumpscare us with a spam-proof tileable 7-segment display with no encoding... Um... You're awesome, and I will absolutely be building it myself?? 😄 Personally I'm stoked about Frogger. Please, all the Frogger content you care to give, I'll be so happy (and happy for you) to have a completed one that the Hermits can enjoy (and us when we get the world download!). It's looking good too... You said you went simple with the walls but I particularly appreciated that cityscape, clever and convincing especially for the scale! Thank you for the episode, it was a blast :D P.s. More clips of you guys trolling Scar or whoever, please... Life's been rough lately and I needed that laugh xD

  • I think giving the player the choice of how many lives they have with better rewards (Most likely more froglights) in relation to how many lives they choose, more lives giving less of a reward for completion compared to no lives. It'll make the difficulty more dynamic and let all skill levels enjoy the game with a fair chance at rewards
