  • These fish have several names, including: Dolphin, Dolphinfish, Mahi, Mahi-Mahi, and or Dorado. It all depends on the region and area you catch them. In South Florida, we call them dolphin.

  • The best time to eat Mahi Mahi is the moment it gets out of water, put it on the grill with skin, no salt, no pepper, no sauce, no nothing. When cooked, use knife or your fingers to pinch out some meat and put it in your mouth. It’s unmistakably fresh fish flavor that nothing else can compare. You lost a lot of flavor after freezing it.

  • To all the people in the comments confused, a mahi mahi’s actual name is the common dolphinfish 😂 “mahi mahi” is the Hawaiian name for a dolphinfish, and in Spanish they call those fish “dorado”. Restaurants always put it on the menu as mahi-mahi so you don’t think you’re eating a mammal dolphin haha plus it sounds cooler. But When fishermen say “dolphin”, we mean mahi-mahi. We don’t catch flipper lol the mammal dolphins are too smart to be caught with a lure. But I get the confusion...when I was 6 my dad told me we were going deep sea fishing for dolphin and I was devastated 😂

  • Anyone who has been out fishing on a charter knows, this is how the first mate gets down. You catch the fish, he cleans and filets.... But make sure you tip. We normally take 6-8 guys out and tip 75-90/per fisherman

  • If you’re going to fillet the fish on the boat, keep the carcass (with the head & tail still intact) after you’re done. Most states require this, so the fish can be measured. Even if the fish doesn’t have a size limit, but it’s still a regulated species, most states require the carcass to remain intact while fishing, or on the boat. Learned that lesson the hard way.

    • @@backflipsaresweet lol, you remove the guts. I make "fish head" soup. You blanch the fish head/bones, and discard the water. Then do a quick boil, remove bits of meat, set aside. Then boil the bones with mirin, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and Korean pepper flakes. Makes a tasty broth. Then add in udon noodles (or noodles of your choice) and boil in the broth, add veggies, add meat removed earlier. It's one of my kid's favorites.
