The Nightmare Before Christmas | Voice Cast | Live vs Animation | Side By Side Comparison

As requested and just in time for the Halloween season, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Side By Side Comparison. Now I couldn't include every song from the movie because one, that be a copyright claim WAITING to happen, and two, I need footage of the actors performing the songs live, and since the choir in the Nightmare Before Christmas concert is different to the movie, ensemble numbers like This is Halloween and Making Christmas, will not be included. However I included atleast one song from the four most major characters, Jack, Sally, Oogie Boogie, and Lock Shock and Barrel. Enjoy

  • One thing I feel like I have to point out is that yes that is Greg Proops as Santa Claus in this, but he was not the original voice of Santa in the movie, that was Edward Ivory, Greg just plays him in the concert. However Greg did play minor characters in the movie such as the Sax Player and Devil.

Obviously Danny Elfman does almost all the music for his movies, Catherine O'Hara was the mother in Beetlejuice, and Paul Reubens (Pee Wee) worked with Tim Burton seeing that his very first directorial movie debut was Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. Also bonus fact: actress who plays Dottie in Pee-Wee's Big Adventure cameoed in Batman Returns as Penguin's mother and Paul Reubens plays his father

    • I won't lie, I didn't know Paul Reubens was in the movie until about 4-5 years ago. I actually saw him at a con while waiting in line for another actor. At the front Paul was greeting and talking with a cosplayer and getting a photo. He looked so happy and still youthful for his age. While I never watched his series or movie really, I know he brought so much joy to others. It was sad when I found out he died. Because I swore when I saw him you wouldn't have guessed he was hiding cancer.

    • I’m lucky that this year will be the 4th time to get to see Danny in concert, and he’s done a mix of only Nightmare Before Christmas showings and a collection of his works. This year he’s even including more Oingo Boingo content. I definitely recommend looking up his concerts a few months before October to see what his plans are in the following years! I live near LA myself so I’m not sure if he does this elsewhere, but I think it’d be worth the visit :)

    • I don’t understand why we need to have some kind of competition between creators like Burton and Selick. They both deserve a ton of credit for making the film, and it wouldn’t have existed in the way we know today without either of them. Hell, Danny Elfman also gave so much to the film in terms of music and voice talent, not to mention every animator, story artist and dozens of other credits that we aren’t even aware of. TLDR: Movies are made by the contributions of many talented people, and it’s ridiculous to bring one creator down just to put another on a pedestal. Fan culture doesn’t have to be so one-sided about everything.

  • I often sing some of those songs for my Facebook friends and my family. Usually around Halloween/Christmas, I sing a song from Nightmare before Christmas. I sang Jack’s Lament(Friends fav), Oogie Boogie’s song(My mom’s favorite, What this?!(My brother’s favorite), Poor Jack, and finally on Christmas Day I gave my friends and family a Christmas gift by singing We’re simply meant to be. Everyone had commented of how much they love my performances. I love Nightmare before Christmas and it was an amazing experience performing those songs

  • I was so in love with this film as a child that my foster family always joked that Jack was my boyfriend from when I was little. We'd go past the DVD store with all it's gothic stuff in the window, and my foster mum would always point and say "go say hi to your boyfriend" as a way to tell me and my siblings to idle in there while she checked the boring shop next door for towels and bedding.

  • This is my all time favourite children’s movie. The music is beautiful. I’d love to see a theatre production done with Danny elfman and crew. I’ve loved the music for years and the animation. I even bought a jack skeleton, sally and the professor figurines. Jack and Sally’s head wobbles when the light hits the plate they are on. I adore them. I have the movie and never tire of it. The music swirls in my head and I love to watch the characters. I’m so glad it was made. It’s sublime. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
