  • There are no court cases that I hate more when they happen than rape cases or alleged rape. Because if it truly happened it’s just horrible and I can’t imagine the feeling of the victim if they get away with it since it’s so hard to prove. The same applies when it didn’t happen but someone get accused of it anyway it’s also horrible since someone’s reputation gets ruined based off nothing. These cases always leave a bad taste in my mouth.

  • Its very concerning to see people treat the courts verdict as a suggestion. The entire point of a legal system is that verdicts are final and upheld. I have no clue what he did and didn’t do, I have very little of the facts as does everyone else online, all I know is over a 6+ month court case he was found not guilty. I’m moving on with my life now, hope everyone else does the same instead of arguing online over a case we know basically nothing about. He is not guilty, he can now do what we wants with, in the unlikely scenario he goes back into pro-football, I don’t have an issue with it

I still see people saying that there were a lot of allegations so he "must be" guilty, or with the Greenwood case (though i know they are very different), they will focus on the "evidence" (that was disputed in court) rather than whats happened since in both the eyes of the law and the victim themselves Allegations regardless of whether they are true or not will damage a mans reputation forever

To be honest this is a difficult situarion and this is why footballers should themselves be more disciplined and should stay around their families ( if they are good families) a little longer instead of traveling around the world. They should have a proper role model who can teach them how to be a man to avoid these situations in the first place or to correct bad behavior. The guys are thrown around into far away countries, separated from their families and friends, and sometimes, it breaks them. It can lead them through a bad path, or fuel negative behavior. This reminds me of an interview an Argentinian footballer gave almost 2 decades ago. He lived a normal life after retiring and decided he would become a family man. He commented how he always accompanied his son to the football academy, because he liked it, but discouraged him from becoming a pro due to the lifestyle. 'Because you can easily find one girl who will ruin your life, or go down a bad path.'

  • The problem with R and SA cases is that they are essentially pretty incompatable with our justice system. Due to the nature of it... beyond all reasonable doubt is next to impossible to prove bar the most extreme cases. The majority of people can't even agree on what consitutes R and SA either. "She was asking for it" is still highly prevelant in our society... and not just with men either. One of those people on a jury, theres not a cats chance of getting a conviction of anything bar, again, the most extreme cases (and those are very rare). The majority of cases are not someone getting kidnapped by a random stranger. They are between people who know each other, partners, former partners. Potential future partners but one side decides to move faster then the other wants. Its an incredibly complicated situation. EDIT: Any comparision with Mendy and Deli is absolutely insane. Deli is guy who was broken by an absolutely horrific childhood that left him with scars that haunted him into his adulthood. Mendy is not comparable. Mendy chose to put himself into that situation. When you decide to party with people that are drinking (and possibly more then that) and then decide to engage in relations with those people, situations getting confused in something that can happen. That can be avoided by just not doing that. That doesn't make it right, or fair, but that life and it isn't always fair.

Law entails that it should always be innocent until proven guilty but there is always the pressure of the People's justice and the buisness side of reacting to all things as shown. It recently happened in the NFL with a Bills player who got removed from the team based on allegations that he was cleared of...feels like their probably should be projections for people who do get ruined by these situations, as even if you accept the verdict as the fact...such a sensitive case still leaves a lingering cloud of doubt and some people will always assume it to be the fact.

It was definitely disappointing to me to see so many footballers I respect so quickly jump onto the performative-activist bandwagon & liking and commenting onto a post over an issue that frankly, isn't any of their business. Of course I'm not holding any grudges, as these are all people before public figures, but it was still discomforting to watch play out.
