  • I don't think you have any idea how incredibly good your reactions and analyses are. First, you look at the camera and just make us feel like you are having a conversation with just that one single current viewer. Then you inject such humor and/or great additional information through your ingenious overlaid comments. Finally, you have a professional's understanding of just how everything fits together and can convey that to us so effectively and with so much respect for the skills of Dimash or whoever you are reacting to. Simply the best there is out there. I wish you nothing but success and hope you will carry on with this channel long after you get the roles you so richly deserve. Thank you so much for everything you give us.

  • Thank you, Cedric, very nice reaction and comments - my expectations are also always high (on you! ;-)) and you never disappoint! ;-) I am completely with you, this song has become at once a favorite of mine as well. And I'm happy to hear that one other favorite of yours is also Qairan Elim. I love it so much. And this song here is so intense, powerful, mysterious, timeless, haunting, drawing you in at once but leaving much room for your own interpretations, memories, fantasy... It is dramatic and uplifting as well, sometimes it seems to halt (and reflect), but the drums drive you on, so much energy, and the whole spectrum between heaven and earth (or hell) is reflected by Dimash's incredible singing. This song (and performance!) is well worth to write an essay about it! To cut it short: I love it, from the very first second to the last, after listening to it already 20 times - I love it - I love Dimash. There is no voice and no performer who can get somewhere near Dimash. He is unmatched. I'm so happy and enjoy so much - every single time - that I've come across Dimash. What a blessing! Thank you, Cedric, again and all the best for you and all your projects! I'm also happy to have come across you!

  • Hi Cedric, greeting from Australia. It is always a joy to see your video reaction for Dimash. You are right, he sets his own bar very high, we almost always expect another masterpiece every time he performs a new song. I bet Igor is having fun of his life creating songs that no one can sing but Dimash which means he has more freedom in his creativity.

  • BRAZIL - Cedric, I agree with what you said, because there are people who consider Dimash exhibitionist, but a vocal coach said everything Dimash does on stage is for the best music, for the audience, for the best show that the audience can witness, be it the the way he acts, the clothes he wears, the vocals, the arrangements, Dimash thinks of everything beforehand, everything in favor of musical art. In fact, many say in the comments and it's true; Dimash doesn't sing, he experiences what he sings on stage, he's a storyteller and singer, he expresses himself with his whole body. In the instrumental arrangement of STRANGER I hear flutes where I think of Celtic music in series like OUTLANDER and the sound of drums reminds me of great battle movies, where you see a gigantic army marching before the start of the great fight, where I imagine LORD OF THE RINGS (THE TWO TOWERS - BATTLE IN HELM'S ABYSS... Fantastic, incredibly captivating, hypnotic. I admit that I increasingly admire the partnership between Dimash and Igor, as conductor Krutoy actually increasingly composes beautiful pieces for Dimash, knowing his great talent, he really wants Dimash to reach, fulfill his great dream of projecting his work in the West , especially in America, get great recognition because he deserves too much. Hugs

  • You know what else is mind blowing. On the stage Dimash is so strong, powerful and super confident but off stage he is soft, gentle and so kind. His off stage speaking voice would never lead you to believe he could sing like this. Totally insane. He says he is so comfortable on stage so it’s like he just unleashes everything inside him. Everything he does is so insanely different. I listen to e everything he does over and over every day, day after day, but never get bored because it is so diverse, so epic one minute and then soft and soul caressing the next. He doesn’t even have to sing, just has to smile, or turn those eyes on you and I melt. And I am an old lady of 66. What on earth does he do to the young ones. 💕💕💕💕

  • Kobyz is an ancient tool of the peoples who lived in the East, including nomads. It was used in ancient times by steppe shamans-healers for various rites. Kobyzy is made from a single piece of wood. This is one of the oldest ways of making musical instruments in the history of mankind. It is not due to technical backwardness or the lack of metal devices. According to the ancient beliefs of many peoples, only in a single piece will the living singing soul of the tree remain, which will sound in the instrument. The open body and strings of the kobyz from a bunch of 30-60 untwisted horse hair give a very thick, overtone-rich timbre.

Dimash says he is considered the best kobyz player (in the world, I assume). Anyway, a lot of reactors turn off the video before Dimash calls out his name (I understand your reasons, though) and I think he deserves a lot of credit too, for making the song so...eerie and mysterious. • I'm glad that you decided to react to this new song. Dimash’s performances have always been extraordinary but THIS song-this mysterious, eerie mystical music created by Igor Krutoy specifically for Dimash-has, I believe, confirmed that he is, indisputably, the best singer of this era. No one can do what he can with his voice. A true cover of this song is impossible. Also, because of Dimash’s deep love of his country and desire to share its music and culture with the world, it was he who suggested to Igor Krutoy to use the traditional Kazakh instrument-the Kobyz-in this piece. It was the right call. The sound of the Kobyz added to the mystery of the music. I believe that if music could assume a human form, it would be Dimash. I hope that he makes a real music video of this song. The one thing I absolutely hate about New Wave in Sochi is the camera work. Since when do you cut away from a singer when he's doing the hardest, most impressive part of his performance-that transition through his registers and the runs? They did it when he performed Sinful Passion there as well.

  • I love your analyses so much, Cedric! We all know Dimash’s vocals are without peer, and yet the essence of Dimash as an artist is in the spectacle-his artistic vision is always about going big, with backing vocals, instruments, lights, costumes, and more. Having someone like you that can break down both the singing and the spectacle really begins to finally do justice to the full scope of how Dimash performs, and not just his impressive vocal range or agility.

  • 👉 A Dear wrote: “These are the voices of the world singing the tragedy of human migration forced by tragic circumstances.” Another Dear: “Dimash is not only a singer, but a messenger of something very deep that has been lost in music lately ... Dimash invades our soul and never leaves it.” On August 19, 2021, for the first time the sound of kobyz was heard on the stage of the New Wave Hall in Sochi Olympic Park. The tandem of Igor Krutoy (piano) and Dimash Qudaibergen (voice) with the best Kobys player in the world Olzhas Qurmanbek, have presented a new, really unique song in English with enchanting oriental melodies. The idea to add kobyz to the new song came to Dimash after he first heard the melody "Stranger". He decided that the folk instrument would fit perfectly into the song, giving it an exciting sound. The performer of the kobyz part is Olzhas Kurmanbek. The music was created by Russian song-writer Igor Krutoy (musictitan, billionaire), and the lyrics were written by American poetess Sharon Vaughn. The main arrangement was made by Dimitris Kontopoulos (Greece) and Yerlan Bekchurin (Kazakhstan). “It was Dimash’s talent that inspired me to write this song, his immense vocal abilities and his desire to sing for a large international audience. Franky, I don’t see anyone else who could perform this piece in such a way”, - Krutoy said. (Source: Dimashnews) 👉 Backstage-video: kzhead.info/sun/kqivob2Qqn-FdK8/bejne.html 👉 The New Wave’s story started in 2002, and for many years it has been one of the most iconic music events not only in Russia, but for the entire world. The television audience of the New Wave covers more than 200 million people. In this year’s finale, 11 participants from 9 countries will fight for the grand prize of modern pop music. • YES!!!!!!!! You totally noticed the whirlpool effect going on. No other reactor that I've seen, has noticed or mentioned that. This is the director in you coming out, I guess. I imagined him leaving a world of confusion behind. A maelstrom, if you like. I love the way he started off with a lighter voice, conveying a feeling of uncertainty at what awaits him and then at the end, the conviction and the kind of defiance in the face of destiny, burning the past and then stretching that end note as though saying "I'll make it. It should be enough that I want to". This has such a mystical, ancient vibe to it. I've had it in my head since it was released (and I know I'm not alone). • Just WOW! Where do you suppose he's taking us? Wow. I wonder if he will ever do a musical? Who the heck knows, but for now his virtuosic skill and application of emotional depth will just have to do! Thank you, Cedric for another wonderful reaction. I love how excited you get while watching Dimash. You have a background that allows you to perceive so much more than the average Joe, (not the one on Sunset Blvd!!). That is NOT an average JOE! Right? Ha. 🕊🎶❤️🎶🕊. ✌️

  • Everything that Dimash sings and performs is beautiful, as beautiful as he is physically and spiritually. He remains so humble, so kind to others, to his values, with his feet planted on the ground since his earliest age. When he is on stage, he charms us, catches us, makes us feel better and wants to continue improving. Who does not see that this young man is very very very special ... is that he does not pay attention to the details. Thanks for your reaction and a hug from Spain.

  • I posted this comment on the KZhead channel of a Russian blogger who translates the most interesting reactions. You are there too. Everything that is written there is from the heart and the truth. On my own behalf - of course a subscriber, of course I look forward to new reactions. Thanks! From Russia with love! Once I left a similar comment, but here I have to repeat myself - everything is excellent in this video - and Dimash, and the song, and the scene, and the reactionary, and damn it (if I myself am a printed, but not a spoken translator) - an awesome translation, just awesome! Thanks! I was waiting for the translation of this super positive dude! Mr. "I am translating" - a separate respect for you! P.S. Notice the subtleties the reactionary feels. I (the musician) absolutely agree with him. He said all the most necessary and correct after the video. I especially liked the phrase "He just does what the song asks of him" - very understanding and professional. The rest of the speech in the same spirit - this, by the way, is a rarity among reactionaries - the reactionary threw out all the right emotions and this is correct and it corresponded to what was happening :-)

  • Cedric, I'm not 100% sure but I feel this song is predominantly in 5/4 time signature, which has a strong, driving feel. It was used in one of the male feature vocals in Jesus Christ, Superstar (can't remember which song) - and I have heard it in a few other songs, mostly instrumentals. It gives a sense of urgency and propulsion to the music. I also noticed that in a couple of switches where there is less percussion, Dimash sang in 4/4 but they kept changing it up subtly through the song - a fabulous technique. From the first time I heard this song it gave me images of immigrants who have fled from oppression and desperate circumstances to "new lands" - and how they might feel. Even if that's not the point of the song, it opened my heart to how immigrants likely experience the life-changing event of losing their native homes and their uncertainty about how to begin again.

  • Another enjoyable reaction and analysis. Congrats on 20K+ subscribers and good luck with your new role. Most of what I share in this comment you also mentioned in your captions. You obviously did your research. Dimash premiered his newest song "Stranger" on August 19, 2021, during his performance at the annual New Wave music competition in Sochi, Russia. He once again performed with Igor Krotoy on the piano and introduced Olzhas Qurmanbeck on the kobyz. It is an amazing performance, one of, if not the best to date, in my humble opinion. Igor Krutoy composed the music, American poetess Sharon Vaughn wrote the lyrics, and Dimitris Kontopoulos (Greece) and Yerlan Bekchurin (Kazakhstan) did the arrangement. Igor Krutoy is quoted as saying that “it was Dimash’s talent that inspired me to write this song, his immense vocal abilities and his desire to sing for a large international audience. Franky, I don’t see anyone else who could perform this piece in such a way.” When Dimash first listened to the melody of "Stranger" he felt that the addition of a kobyz to the musical arrangement would give the song a unique, yet very fitting sound. Thus, the kobyz made its debut at the New Wave Hall at the Sochi Olympic Park, and what a great choice indeed. It is a beautiful sounding instrument that seems to underscore the song’s deep meaning. This wasn’t the first time that Dimash has featured Olzhas Qurmanbeck playing the kobyz. You can also enjoy him in a few of Dimash’s other performances such as Qairan Elim (official music video) and Samaltau (2020 Tokyo Jazz Festival). The Kobyz is a very old, traditional, and sacred instrument in Kazakhstan. The kobyz or kyl kobyz is the most ancient bowed instrument on earth, widespread among the Turks, Kazakhs, Karakalpaks, Bashkirs, and Tatars. It became the basis for most of today’s bowed instruments around the world, including European instruments such as violin, viola, cello, and contrabass. The Kyrgyz variant is called kyl-kayak. The instrument is carved from a single piece of wood (typically apricot) or juniper (arsha), maple, pine tree, or birch. The instrument consists of three parts: head (bas), middle (base is keude), and lower part (ayak) and usually measures 60-70 cm. It has two strings made from horsetail hair; one to provide melody and the other resonance. The bow is shaped like an archer’s bow, and its string is tied to both ends of the bent branch and affixed with strong threads of camel wool. The New Wave Music competition started in 2002, and for nearly two decades now has been one of the most iconic music events in Russia and other parts of the world. It is an international contest for young performers of popular music. It was founded by Russian composer, performer, and music producer Igor Krutoy (seen here playing the piano) and Latvian pianist and composer Raimonds Pauls. Russian superstar Alla Pugacheva eventually joined as one of the show’s organizers. The contest usually lasts for six days: 3 contest days, 2 special event days, and the final day when the contest's results are announced and a final concert is performed. The television audience of the New Wave music competition numbers more than 200 million people. In 2018, Dimash debuted as a guest performer, performing his now legendary rendition of “Sinful Passion”. This year (2021) Dimash took part as a guest performer, as well as a judge. In this year’s finale, 11 participants from 9 countries will compete for the grand prize.

  • Kobyz- "Stranger" Music - Igor Krutoy Lyrics - Sharon Vaughn Arranger - Dimitris Kontopoulos (Greece) and Yerlan Bekchurin (Kazakhstan) The idea to add kobyz to the new song came to Dimash after he first heard the melody "Stranger". He decided that the folk instrument would fit perfectly into the song, giving it an exciting sound. The performer of the kobyz part is Olzhas Kurmanbek.... It has very mysterious, ancient sound. It literally is a magical instrument, once used by shamans in their magical rites the most magical song sung by our Dimash, brilliant as ever...
