Productive study days as a politics student at the University of Oxford
Hi friends! In this vlog, I finish 500 pages of reading, do lots of cooking, enjoy the autumn weather, go book shopping, and spend time with friends. I get tired when I stay in one place to study for too long so I move around to different libraries throughout the day lol. Anyways thank you so much for the love in the last video and hope you guys enjoy!

    • I’m 47 and getting ready to go to college fall of next year. It’s never too late. I couldn’t before because I’ve had Rheumatoid Arthritis that made me disabled (first diagnosed at age 8) but by me listening to the latest science and data and figuring it out all on my own I halted my Rheumatoid Arthritis and brought the severe disease activity down to zero and I have zero symptoms so I’m finally not disabled anymore so I’m absolutely taking this time and well body to college and I have my 13 year old daughter that I homeschool and we’re going to live on campus 💝💝💝💝. Never too late. I plan on 6 to 8 years for college for the field I’m going into 💝💝💝 regenerative farming and agriculture in climate change and environmental studies since it was real whole nutrient dense foods that halted my severe Rheumatoid arthritis ❤

  • Honest question: How does one read 500 pages of academic writing in two days? What’s the strategy? This is something I’ve always struggled with in university 😢

    • I'm in my first year but after passing several lit tests/exams in secondary, the main tip is that you most probably won't have to read the entire thing so: -scan the table of contents for any chapters that are specifically relevant to your assignment/test and start reading those, if you can -take notes during and not after reading a long section to avoid having to peruse through it again -skip over any part that feels redundant -skip over examples if you feel like you understand the point they're illustrating - if a concept isn't well explained or is too hard to grasp, look it up elsewhere and see if you can understand it better that way -find an audio version of it and listen to it on 1.5x speed but only do this if you think you can retain information that way -if the author is famous and has an active presence on the internet, see if you can find a ted talk, an interview or an article where they discuss the topic you're reading on

  • Reminds me of my time at the University of Toronto. Old architecture hundreds of pages of reading in days, debating an argument in tutorials, research papers... Undergrad in Political Science and Geography is done, now strongly considering Babson College for MBA in Entrepreneurship (a few years from now). Academic life is such a wonderful experience. Good luck and by forth year, you'll feel pretty burnt out just hang in there!

  • this is really inspiring and motivating omg. i got into oxford a few days ago and i'll be starting (hopefully!) this october :) it's really good to see what life will possibly be like, and that i needn't worry that life will be purely based around my studies, because you clearly show that that is NOT the case. thank you!

    • @@firebanner6424 we have to send in applications and personal statements in by october (i think some time around the 15th), and depending on your course, the university might ask you to submit written work by the beginning of november. then you should hear whether or not you get an interview for oxford about a week before the interview period in december. the interviews vary between courses, for my course i had two set interviews, and was subsequently asked by another college to interview for them. the different colleges are essentially where you sleep and eat- you would have tutorials either in your college or someone else's college, and classes outside of college. so yeah different colleges can ask you to interview for them if there isn't enough space in the college you're applying for. then when the interviews are over there is a day in january (this year it was the 10th) when all the offers or rejections go out. i was lucky enough to get an offer, but nearly everyone else in my grade who applied was rejected. the process is REALLY hard and confusing but so worth it in the end. even if you get rejected, there is so much to learn from the process. good luck at stanford!!

    • @@blue15443 every uni in the uk costs roughly the same. i’m taking out student loans to help pay for tuition. it’s basically how every other uni student in England pays for their tuition. it’s not like the US with the excessively expensive private university tuition fees

Have you been to Duke Humfrey’s Library at the Bodleian? I think it’s one of the most picturesque libraries that I’ve ever seen and would be a great addition to your Oxford experience.     • The Bod has lockers you can use for free (or used to - probably still does). Don’t even think of removing a book from the secure shelves at the Duke Humphrey without getting permission from a librarian. It’ll set off an alarm! I made that mistake once :~D

    • Thank u so much! I use an ipad 7th gen and mostly use goodnotes with it. I also have a matte screen protector from amazon because I feel like it makes the ipad feel more like paper when I'm writing. Hope that helps!
