02:04 Reboot Vs Classic
Classic Lara will always be the best one to me 💕
When they started with reboot games, it was only the media that heralded the remade Lara as an update for new times. She was oversexualized, they said. Interestingly, girls tend to prefer the original Lara just as much as boys, and it's easy to see why. She was witty, self-assured, badass and COOL. And sexy on top of that. Then they decided they had to transform her into something else. Why? If you change something that's already perfect you can only make it worse. They sure improved the graphics, but other than that, they have the same title, and the main character is called Lara Croft, but she's some random girl that I don't care about. And the game is just another game.
@@MA-yu2ss I understand your point, and I'm aware of the idea being used in these new games of showing how she got to be herself. Yet, I feel these games are just another concept altogether, the more elaborated the graphics, the more spectacular and movie-like action scenes, the more I feel I'm playing a straight forward story, to merely trigger these animations that take place. In the old games you got the feeling of being exploring, even if it was illusion and it was actually pretty staight forward aswell. I'm a fan of the very first three games, and from the newer ones I can say "Underworld" was the only one I really enjoyed (because the story was good, and the mythology involved very interesting). As to the effort of showing Lara in the making, I much prefer a fan-made level set, "Himalayan Mysteries - Full Version" by Titia Drenth (Titak). I feel she was so much closer to the original idea, the original concept of the game. She took as a basis Lara's background story from the original game in 1996 and developed a whole game from it. Amazing work. And concerning Lara's phisical appearance, I've always thought there's something that escapes most people when they go on talking about her huge boobs and all that; in TR1 character design did not aim for realism. Yes, she was designed to be a bombshell, but Toby Gard's style was kind of cartoon-like, exaggerating features and stylizing figures. I mean, her legs were also exageratedly long with freakingly narrow knees. Take a look at his character desing for a later work, "Galleon", it shows the same style (which I admire). What made TR feel real was the fact that it was a whole 3D environment and, very importantly, the fantastic work they made with Lara's super smooth movement animations, that needs to be praised still to this day. But the look of characters was not realistic. I want that. And I want an adventure game, not something that seems to be a crossover with survivial horror or war games, or trying to keep up with "Uncharted".
canalsoloparaverunvideodemierda yes I loved the old games as well, and I liked the complex puzzles and feeling of isolation they gave us while exploring. I also like the new ones, even though I do understand what you mean by them copying from Uncharted. I feel like they have gone somewhat off track of the original idea of tomb raider. Regardless I love the new games, with the exception of SOTTR because I felt like the storyline was lacking a bit...

Looks like the designers learned and unlearned what anatomy is several times over the years.
I wish there were some statistics on the character design team members/turn over to see if there was some correlation with team change over or if the same team just kept forgetting what body part is on the top of the body.
Hey Cap junior
Is that not that they didn't know, but rather had to deal with hardware limitations, during the ps1 era. That defined the style of the char, and they decided to leave it as such for the most part. Going for more stylized looks requires less time adding details compared to more realistic/detailed approaches too.
@@Gbtx6 nothing to do with Ps1 era as it was on PC aswell, it was just purely memory limitations and technology at the time. I still prefer the old style to realism.
Like pokemon learn a move and unlearned it for a new move
I swear she gets younger as she grows older....
That's because the new ones are origin stories and the classic ones are veteran histories
There’s three timelines so far. Original which ended after angel of darkness (age 16-30s.) legends (age 20s-31) and survivor (20s-26).
I found the 2007 version sexy tho
Legend doesn't look that young, Anniversary does because she was in fact young, Underworld she looks like a living cadaver, and in the new ones she was totally changed, but they had to reflect her younger age. But yeah, in IV, V, and AoD she definitely looks younger than the first 3 ones lol. Lara suddenly changed in IV

The Legend trilogy is my personal favorite era of Tomb Raider. I know, the originals are the classics, but Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld had a lot of modern conveniences and upgrades while still retaining some of what made the originals special. Being the middle trilogy, they make a good middle ground between modern and classic IMO.
Eww
Only one I haven't played is underworld. Is it actually good?
@@corymackin8723 It is
@@corymackin8723 for me, it's the best one
I like both the classics and the Legend Trilogy. Legends brought some nice additions like physics puzzles or grappling hook puzzles. It had nicer graphics, easier controls and a fairer save system. However I think these ones were brought down a bit by a few things. •The easier transversal took away the skill involved with platforming. Legends trilogy made climbing automatic and casualised, with little sense of dread or fear. •Tomb Raiser Legends also had irritating protagonists that won't stop talking over radio. Old Tomb Raider had a sense of isolation and atmosphere, it was Lara versus the world with no moral support. • The boring on-rail sections with action set pieces were dull. Nothing more to say on that. So whilst I like both styles of games, they are going for different things. One is rough around the edges, challanging, atmospheric, and exciting. The other easier, more casual, but more relaxing when wanting to unwind after a hards day of work.

@@bernardolopes1989 it was a terrible origin. An inexperienced student/part time waitress almost becomes rape victim leads her to kill hundreds of men. It's ridiculous. Classic Lara had military background and special forces training it made so much more sense!!
@@Dogs.Are.Better.Than.People Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I think starting out as former military would undermine her journey. The fact that 2013 Lara starts out as someone who is inexperienced and doesn't believe in myths and legends and is forced to adapt to survive and cross lines she didn't think she could is a much more epic journey. The fact she realizes her dad was right about everything and that the world around is so much more complex than she ever imagined is captured beautifully. @@bernardolopes1989 it's been done so many times already both in games and movies. It's so dramatic and cliché at this point. It was to tropey and had me none invested. Honestly, Tomb Raider died to me when I started playing Underworld. A good start, but something felt wrong.. not the same feel as Legend or Anniversary has. Despite that they add the characters off those two games in Underworld. (Also that Octopus was a joke!) After watching this and getting that sweet childhood nostalgia, I feel like I stop caring about Underworld because it was moving into the next consoles area. When I first saw Tomb Raider 2013, I was interested. But still to this day never played it mainly because she looks like a completely different person, and the game looks nothing like Tomb Raider. I think Underworld was the end of the original Lara Croft adventure, that I just couldn't accept.
