It’s actually a marginal call to make. When Marchand cuts back, it’s not the stick wave that takes him down - it’s his skate clipping the skate of the defenceman. In real time, it’s hard to tell on the video, but if you watch it slowed down, it’s very clear. I don’t think you can claim that the defenceman makes a specific motion to trip him with the skate. He does have a wide stance in his turn and leaves his back foot out there through the turn. I can understand why Marchand is mad, because he believes the dman is hanging the back foot on purpose ( and that may well be true). But it’s a tough spot for the ref honestly. Are you really going to call a trip every time the player cuts back and makes contact with the d-mans back skate? I dont think so. Fortunately Marchand dealt with it in the classy professional manner we would expect that has teammates would appreciate. 😂
Doesn’t matter if it’s a specific motion or not. That’s a trip
This happens all the time to the Bruins. Constant missed calls.

All day every day that’s a trip and you cannot miss that
That don't make up for the 10000 calls he got away with in the past
Best part of this is that it's actually not a trip, ref got it right. Stick never touches him. He jumped to avoid the poke check and just fell.
After this non-call, Bruins outscore Kings 5-1, Marchand a goal and an assist. So glad the Kings are all laughing.

The officiating was just like the camera operator tonight. Not quite sure the people doing it knew what they were doing. Camera couldn’t find the puck and was just staring at the neutral zone 90 percent of the game. Refs did not want to call trips or holds all night. You don't have to call a penalty every time a player falls. Watch it in slow motion and it was Marchand's abrupt turn that caused their feet to collide. The kings player didn't even drag his foot, it was just there because he was turning the opposite way. Good non-call. I love those color guys, they are entertaining and fun to hear. On the other hand they are the undoubtedly the most biased announcers in the NHL.
The Kings player clearly stuck his foot out. Watch the video before commenting next time.
It’s a bad angle but at the end his back foot went out. It wasn’t much but it was enough. It’s a trip… any player has a right to the ice he’s skating on especially trying to make a play. Another player trips them doing so… that’s tripping
I see it exactly the way you do man, this was a 50\50 situation but then the ever-opportunistic Marchand tries to oversell it and draw a penalty, the jump in the air is what made it so Hollywood that the ref decided not to call it.

I usually try to be as respectful as possible, but this comment is so fucking stupid. Do you think that the players always have an intent to take a penalty?
