Wow, this video was incredibly informative as I have been, somewhat challenged, between purchasing the Logitech 920 for teaching yoga online, and at Christmas, my boyfriend bought me the Avermedia Live Streamer 313. I was somewhat disappointed in the beginning, until I tried it out last week and although the lighting wasn't up to my normal standards as it was apartment lighting, I was quite shocked at the clarity of voice and of the video when I reviewed it later. Your youtube video is great because it breaks it down between both webcams, allowing the viewer for deeper insight into which model is actually, the better buy! Thanks so much Chris!
Good thing you added the edit at the end. I almost stopped the video right before that because it looked horrible. Might just want to redo the whole video cause if I stopped it 5 seconds earlier I’d never even consider the aver media.

I use Linux Mint currently and would like you to add some comments on the Avermedia 313 compatibility with Linux as this is not mentioned in their specs. Seeing how the C920 had delayed and frankly choppy video vs the fluid quality of the C313 I will be going with the C313. For Facerig and just to have a more watchable live stream in general I need smoother and more responsive video than a slight (almost not even noticeable) increase in video quality. Thank you for a helpful and good review. It went a long way in helping me choose which to buy.

Finally a review without having studio light as bright as the sun. It seems that the cameras focus is more on the background than the person. The background was sharp but the person was more blury. You could have a USB switch at the desk who delivers power to the webcam.
In the 80s lighting lamps were so hot, the people almost became Kentucky Fried Chicken. 😁😆😅😅😃😙😄😄😙🙂😚😄😃😛
Did you use an active or passive USB extension cable? Also, can you adjust to wide angle on either cam?
Thanks for this. Any idea why I find the Avermedia 313 is much, much slower, choppy and laggy in Microsoft Teams, than the Logitech C920? The puzzling part is, both webcams are fine in OBS or in Zoom or WebEx. In fact I've tried many webcams, and Logitech webcams seem to be the only ones that work smoothly in Teams, while all are fine in OBS or Zoom, or with some exceptions) in WebEx. Does it relate to the type of video compression they use, or some setting I've missed?
How did you get the 313 to work on Linux i cant find a driver for it. I use Ubuntu 20.04

I'm working on turning the Xbox One Kinect into a webcam. All I need to do is pull the USB B to proprietary USB cable out, take the Kinect apart, strip the cable of a 12 volt PSU, solder the wires onto the USB pins, put the Kinect back together, plug in a USB 3 Type A to B cable into an Intel or Renascence USB port, and then install the Dev Kit. Done!
What sort of echo-suppression baffles did you settle on eventually?
Avermedia 313 has much better frame rates, I can tell from the video.
Noticed this after the fact as well. The Motion blur wasn't nearly as severe with the 313.
Sorry but the Frame Rate on the Logitech was somehow screwed by the settings in the Logitech Control Panel. If you crank (Exposure I think it is) the Frame Rate (probably the shutter speed) dies so you work with the others to compensate. I can get 30FPS and 60FPS (@ 720P) from C920 no problems. Sorry but you've either set up the C920 wrong or deliberately skewed the review for some dosh from Avermedia.
Your original conclusion was spot on! The Avermedia kills the c920 out of the box. I don't know why you thought you needed to edit your video and say otherwise... You made up my mind to buy the Avermedia as soon as you switched to it from the c920.

Hi. New with webcams having to put on the computer vs having them built in. I'm confused about the 920 as it didn't line up with your lips talking. Can you explain how the 920 was better then? Thanks as I am desperately searching for one to zoom grandkids and family. Thats about it.

Hey Chris.. I followed most of your videos and installed Pop Os. However, the output to headphones isn't working. Rest of it is fine. Please help. I'm beginning to think Linux isn't for me.
I thought the stock settings and footage still looked better than the C920 and the white balance in the C920 causes way too much latency in OBS. I've got both, so I'm going to compare for myself in my own environment.

Hahaha, I always think of the bill gates quote "640k is more than anyone needs". That said, Microphone technology really hasn't advanced that much in the past 20 years. I'm fairly safe with what I said, but I get your point ;)
I noticed that the Logitech webcam had a little bit of an out of sync with the voice. Good review 👍

Yeah the Logitech had a long delay and I didn't sync it in OBS

It was strange that the logitech only recorded at ~5fps, it looked worse than a webcam for 9 bucks. But it might be user error too, wanting to put the sponsor in a better light.
By any chance is there a zoom feature on the 313. I've had it for some time and can't seem to figure it out. I use it on OBS
I just got the c920. Fine for me but expensive. Over here they're around 80 bucks
It is an interesting video. But I think it is much better to use your smartphone camera as a web camera. And there are a lot of apps that can allow you to do this. And this essentially free. Recently I encounter a problem. I can not stream video from youtube because of youtube take a picture from another webcam even though I set the particular webcam everywhere in Chrome and youtube. What it can be?

next time turn off the low light compensation as it will fix the frame rate on the image quality. The Auto low light compensation does not allow you to see the full extent of the frame rates.
i just bought the 313 and it looks blurry on OBS, idk why...it's like it wont focus
c920 is much much expansive than 313 right now😂 so that I choose 313

Yeah, I'll go over using OpenVPN as I don't like other VPN clients. I never use 3rd party VPN tools from a VPN provider.
I was trying to compare his face to the face of Beck from SNL and he would never close his mouth! Even at the beginning of the video his mouth is just open and it makes my comparison a lot more difficult.

Pretty much get an external mic no matter what you are doing. There is nothing worse than a webcam mic... No matter who makes it.
They should've literally taken a camera mic and install it.

You might be able to get away with using a point and shoot that might have an HDMI and just using a USB capture card, but that's gonna be hella expensive
Might as well just move to a DSLR at that point. Why spend $300 on something that is a little better when you can spend $600 on something that is a night and day difference. I regret trying this back in January. Wish I just saved up and moved directly to a good DSLR.
Weird, no auto-focus on the AVerMedia.
My Logitech 720p is used as a small window in OBS, that is enough for showing me live playing instruments in sequencer, and my computer from 2009 can still handle it on Windows 10. I use Windows 10 for Reason music software only, and it works without installing manual drivers. For video to only film me it's not suitable and 1080p version would be needed. Since the tiny window of me playing my midi keyboard is only part of a 1080p stream it's sufficient for now. My main input in the stream is the screen of the sequencer, I am just a little window in it at 720p. Wish todo 1080p interview for example and that is why 1080p is needed at least. My 2009 pc can do 1080p camera if I buy it, but not if I use it as a small downsized in picture as I do now.
Reason can be run in Wine, but only if I finished the entire music sequencer sequence. With Wine it runs.
AVerMedia Live Streamer CAM 313 looks way better.
I would try putting it through a powered USB hub or smth

Yeah, everything in the video was done in both Linux and windows. I used the Configure Video option in OBS to adjust the contrast without installing any 3rd party software. I am not a fan of 3rd party software 😀

"Does not like Extension Cables at all" Sounds like some BS manufacturing if it derps on a standard quality 6ft cable. Sure, with a 99cent bulk 6ft cable we know where the problem is, but I'm not going to buy any USB device that will only work with a $17 6ft cable
