  • As an Aussie, this is hilarious, to have a snake catcher on talking about snakes to people listening to learn and understand Aussie language better and potentially coming over to visit, live etc and most people intending to visit Aus are just a little concerned about our snakes lol, you have to have a surf life saver on next time. 😂

  • Loved this interview…. it brought back loads of memories 😊 from my childhood in the ‘70s, a husband and wife team, good friends of my parents, captured and released snakes (was lucky to be invited along to witness their skills) in a sugar cane town of FNQ. In the late 2010s I was fond of exploring the hill at the back of a place I rented in Tassie… later learning that it was a hotspot for Tiger snakes, I ne’er did see one on my many barefoot wanderings! Thanks x

  • I'm Indian and was fairly confident about speaking in English in my country but when I arrived in Melbourne I was stunned. All I did was simply freeze whenever a native speaker approached me asking something because I just couldn't understand what they were asking me(some people were asking for directions). I've made it so awkward; I acted like I didn't even hear them sometimes and walked away, they were either angry at me or disappointed because they thought I was being rude to them. Another concern I have is making a mistake while speaking. I know it's silly but these are my real anxieties. I hope I'll be a better listener after hearing a few conversations.

    • That's an interesting comment, especially since you most likely learnt/spoke English since you was a child. Imagine being a non-native who grew up in a non-English speaking environment.

  • I used to think AUSTRALIA was boreing and had no culture but now I'm older and IV been overseas I understand that everything I have ever wanted is here, there is no other way but my memories and how the places and spaces I lived in as a kid and a teen and a young man and now at 44, Aussies are different I found this out when I went overseas. I ALLways wanted to live in Paris or London or Berlin but when I went there all I did was miss home. Everything I want and need is in this land. I love Aussies and I'm glad I am AUSTRALIAN. When you fall in love with a AUSTRALIAN women I think they are simply the best, I know i am biased but there is no way I can relate to another that has not grown in this strange space. I dated a lovely English women when I lived in London but it felt weird, she was awesome but it's like I have to have a aussy to love. I met different women from different European countries it's not that they were not wonderful humans it's this strange love I have for this land and its people. The Aussie WOMEN IV loved are just so perfect for me. It's hard to explain ,it's not about how they look or anything like that it's something I still can't quit identify but it's crucial for me to have love. And when I think of that feeling I see the blue mountains. Like that is a image of what love is, the blue mountains. I don't know why because IV lived there only z few years when I was a kid but somehow it's imprinted on my mind love and ahhh I can't even articulate it at all but it's so awesome.

  • After many many years of wildlife rescue and rehab in Australia, I am still stunned that actual vets will call me to pick up a ring tail possum and I get there to find a brush tail possum, or an owl that turns out to be a Tawny.... They are SO different to my eyes (size alone should give it away). Not surprised people mix up snakes if even a vet cant tell native animals apart...though I kinda get it... last I heard (some years back now), a vetertinary degree devoted an entire 25 hours to native animals out of the whole 4 year course. I'm no snake handler (tempted to get into it though), but I LOVE my "pet" ceiling Diamond Python.... best rodent contol I've ever had even if I have had to pull a couple of babies out of the bird aviary!
