Welcome to Agriculture Academy, where we show you how to start a profitable business in agriculture.
Goats are a great animal that you should consider rearing on your small holding. Apart from the milk production of the does, goats can also be raised for their meat. While goat meat is not as popular as some other protein sources like beef and poultry, demand still outweighs supply, especially in the United States, so much so that goat’s meat is regularly imported into the country. Therefore, you can potentially find a niche market depending on where you live. In this video, we are going to take a look at 5 goat breeds that can be reared for their meat.
Stay tuned until the end of this video and we’ll give you your very own infographic that you can download!

I think a three way cross of half kiko a quarter spanish and a quarter or less of boer would be very good meat animals .
Think you could put them all into the same pasture? Might be a silly question but I have no idea
I’m 14 and my favorite breed is the boer, because we live in a warm climate

@Al Sargent Are you raising Kiko's? If so, how is their parasite resistance? I'll be rotating my animals around the place and do not favor worming at all. Thanks.
Love it! Do you have any more tips for us?

Biggest problem with raising goats in the states is there’s no fair market available. You end up doing it for a loss or nothing.
That's changing with the influx of Latin Americans. They like goat meat.
And on the small scale, if the cost of raising goat meat is less expensive than buying meat at the store then its not a loss.
What breed of goat is on the thumbnail?

@@bighammer587 thanks! That’s a beautiful Goat

Now I have never kept goats, but they seem annoying and I can see one distinct advantage to these chunky bois... they are too thicc to get into that much trouble.

To raise where? What part of the work?
When I was in Arizona a house had a goat in their backyard. I thought they had it because they was goat lover's and wanted a pet. Now I see the goat should know that backyard housing is not own and pet friendly it's a meal incapable of making a run for it. 😱 I'm totally incapable of killing an animal but I will eat the meat if I don't have to see the animal being slaughtered It might make eye contact with me and I might be able to sense a connection with the poor animal that it's not ready to die and freak out on the behalf of the animal.
