Coho Salmon are Soft Biters in Low and Clear Rivers | Fishing with Rod

I spent a couple of days chasing Vedder River coho salmon with Linda and Jeff in Chilliwack BC Canada. We float fished with @BnRTackle's soft beads. Coho salmon's bites are often soft so hooking and landing them can be difficult.

  • Rod you and Linda have to make more videos. Theres a chemistry that's not common. You both have expertise and have that great conversation that makes the whole video a friendly experience. Thanks to you both for this one.

    • Thank you! Linda is pretty motivated and hard working so she's got the potential to become a strong content creator in this field. I'm just helping her to reach those goals hopefully sooner than expected, so you'll definitely see more of her in the future. 🙂

  • I've been following you a long time now and I must give you a well deserved compliment with this new video. I love the calm narration in the beginning. I noticed Linda does this in her content and it reminds me of Marty Stouffer. Absolutely love it. You both bring the fisheries biologist angle too...adipose! She has good on screen chemistry with you too. As you are dropping more censored f-bombs. Which is hilarious and shows you are both having good fun :). Keep up the great work Rod and Linda. You guys are great.

  • Hi Rod, that was a great video you & Linda put together there. I have very recently returned to Ireland from a fishing trip to the Chilliwack area where we spent quite a few days fishing the soft bead on the Vedder canal and further upstream in the area you were fishing. You gave me some great advice and help before we left which proved very helpful in the low water conditions we faced while there, so thanks for that!! Unfortunately we didn't have the good fortune to meet you on the river, but we are already planning a return visit, so perhaps we will bump into you someday. Until then, I wish you good fishing and stay safe. 👍

  • Just like to give a big thank you for your excellent videos. I'm from the UK and have just returned from BC where I managed to get 4 days fishing on the Vedder. Your tips, rigs and general enthusiasm where a great help when fishing a new water. The conditions weren't great, but I did manage three Salmon on the fly. Not a fan of 'combat fishing' but followed your advice and walked away from the crowds...... Tight lines and all that..... Paul.

    • Yeah actually on that second day in the video, I had one occasion when the float just stopped going downstream. It was obviously a bite but my brain was somewhere else.

      @FishingwithRod@FishingwithRod7 ай бұрын
  • I think we've been spoiled since 2019 when it comes to coho salmon this year. Most of my bites were really light, and it barely shakes my float. They don't even fully sink the floats. When you get aggressive float downs, it's more than likely a jack.

  • Have you fished a fly for them? I have always found coho a frustrating fish.I remember one time all the coho in the river were biting,the next day with two hundred coho lying close to the bank,I got one little dark jack and my friend got one on a spoon. He then tried the fresh roe from his coho and drifted it thru the huge pod,not one picked up his bait. It seems it's all or nothing.

    • Coho salmon can be so picky. Sometimes they prefer flies or lures over bait. This is why we love fishing for them so much, just too unpredictable. I have fly fished for them in the past, but not very often. I don't do it often because I mostly fish the Chilliwack/Vedder, where fly fishing spots are pretty limited. Do check out Linda's channel where she just posted a fly fishing video for coho though.
