Do you think air fryer would be about the same? Less time maybe?
I was thinking of an air fryer as well
What’s the calorie break down
😅
Do you still bake it in the parchment? Or is it better without?
everyone....do not leave your home while your oven is on.
agree, unbelievably irresponsible and stupid
I was looking for this comment because hell no
@@gregkrazanski i once left a tiny burner on my stove on overnight at its lowest setting and thought I should never cook again. That’s how serious it id
Thank you for the common sense comment. 😅
immediately came here after seeing that!!!!!!
Please don't leave your house /apartment with stuff on the stove get a Crock-Pot or better yet get a instant pot throw everything in for 45 min beans are done (not refried just cooked).
I don't know why people are screaming 'dont leave the house while you have something on the stove' but are okay with leaving the crock pot alone for 8 hours. Food can also burn in the crock pot? And if you always add enough liquid that nothing ever burns in the crock pot then you can also figure out how much liquid add to food on the stove.
@@hermiona1147 the stove is more of a fire hazard it’s not really about burning your food. I thought that was pretty obvious.
@@Undercoverbrother1 I was thinking about the induction stove. I still wouldn't leave it for hours but I've gone quickly to the shop when soup was on the stove. Nah def don't leave food on the gas stove unsupervised.
Exactly what I was thinking, and instead of wasting power on the stove for 3 hours, 45 mins with the instanpot does it.
@@hermiona1147 Crockpots and Instapots will stop once the timer hits. The issue isn't really burnt food though, it's a fire hazard to leave the stove on and unsupervised.
Great recipe, a few points from someone who grew up catering Mexican food - 1) when reheating, put between two plates to form a seal. This way you don’t need to waste a sheet of parchment paper every time you eat this. 2) don’t fry them before you freeze them, fry them before you eat them. Microwave to heat throughout, then fry to get that crisp. If you fry beforehand, it will be soggy after freezing. 3) let them cool on a cookie rack. 4) my favorite way to eat this is with fried eggs and salsa (this is easy if you are already frying it when you eat it). For an extra $0.75 you can really turn it into a satisfying meal (eggs have a lot of protein, salsa has a lot of flavor with minimal calories). Huevos rancheros mi amigo. 5) Go nuts on the scale. My family makes literally hundreds of these at once, filling 10-20 gallon freezer bags. They last months when frozen (I assume, we eat them before it’s ever been an issue). This is our main calorie source. 6) I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings… but I died inside when he did not pour off the water from the beans. We pour it off and replace it with new hot water, which almost completely removes the digestion issues that cause gas. (Of course, the authentic thing to do is replace it with lard…). Or, if you’re concerned about losing nutrition, at least soak them overnight (in the fridge) and pour that water off before boiling. But I absolutely concur that canned refried beans are inedible. I cannot believe people eat that; it tastes like how dog food smells.
I always hear about people having digestion issues when eating beans as was always confused. I didn’t realize that not everyone soaked beans overnight before using, I figured that was just a standard step when cooking beans.
@@walkermorales337 Same; it’s a critical step. It also reduces the cooking time.
Frying before eating them is impractical for this recipe.
I eat refried beans because it doesn't take 3 business days to make. But since you've had them frozen in batches for months, that's something to consider to shorten the prep time.
@@ntolman it isn’t as quick as just microwaving them, but if you are frying eggs already there is no additional time. Just be sure to microwave first to heat the middle, and then fry. Having them pre-fried doesn’t do much for them, because freezing them and thawing them out turns the fried part soggy. Also, if you are making 200 of them, it takes to long to fry them beforehand. My recommendation is to not fry them before freezing, and then decide if you want to fry them or not when you reheat them.
Goated for giving us reheat instructions… no one ever talks about this but it literally makes or breaks your diet
😂, do you need instructions for eveything you do in life smh lmao, how hard is to use your brain and reheat to your preference.
@@cryo3572Nah dude, suggesting the parchment paper is absolutely a great move. There is a reason they teach (or try to teach) home ec in schools. Cooking is an essential skill imo but most people would easily make this mistake which is completely valid given what we're taught in the US.

You won’t regret it man i’ve made over 10 of them and all were great. The only one I did not like as much is just due to personal preference (the reuben) but for the macros it’s good.
This was the one for me. I'm making my third double-batch today. So easy. So delicious. So nutritious. So cheap. So freezable. You can't beat it.
Actually goated for not only providing these insanely good recipes but for going over even the smaller things like how to dice an onion. Thanks for all the work you do
The part where he sliced horizontally into the onion is basically completely unnecessary. You get the same dice if you only do the vertical cuts.
@@Diviance Root to stem juliennes the onion, a perpendicular cut dices. There is no need to turn the knife over and cut inward - it makes the dice inconsistent in size and is kind of dangerous for newbies.
i do this but use low carb tortillas and add cottage cheese to the beans... (blend the cottage first) ends up about same cals but much more protein and extra creamy
cottage cheese is the king for making cheesy burrito filling, try mixing it with some meat to give it a nice orangey look and yummy flavor

Y'all make it simple. Stick them beans in a crock pot on low overnight. Add some ham and onion with salt and whatever seasoning. Life is too short spending watching beans cook lol. Be blessed y'all!! ❤️
You're not wrong but some of us like cooking. Also, if you really want it to be incredible use some good pork shank instead of ham. That stuff... 😋

Here's the thing -- I don't bother commenting on any KZhead video...ever...but I must say, I SO appreciate the amount of effort you put into your recipes. Even if you are just faking it -- I don't really care (although I've tased the recipes so I can say the effort is real and paying off) because you're essentially telling the story and sacrifice and care behind the product you're producing. Something not often seen! So thanks a lot for being so precise. You're like the Lexus or Toyota of the KZhead recipe industry -- quality and reliability you can count on!
You just made my day! Thank you so much!! I will keep putting in the work to make sure the recipes taste as good as possible with a good balance of macros.
@Exercise4CheatMeals Aye man I'm with him, it's true this the first video I've seen from you and I like you already lmao

Not sure if you’ll see this man, but this recipe is INCREDIBLE. I used a carb-balanced 110 calorie wrap (9g protein) and added four slices of chicken bacon and 40g lean beef to it for an additional 21g protein and flavor. 430 calories, 53g protein a pop! Insane. Your instructions for reheating are also goated, thank you so much!!

to be fair, he is cooking on an induction stove so there really isnt a risk of fire starting from boiling water with beans in it

Always soak your beans people. It help with both gas and with breaking down the anti-nutrients within the beans. Soak them in lots cold water in the fridge over night or up to 24 hours. Then drain rinse and refill with whatever you will cook them in and have at it.
Love these burritos! Very easy to add cooked and chopped steak or chicken as well. Thank you very much!
That subtle hint in the spices got me cracking up😂😂
Great recipe, nice work. Dig the video. Just a heads up that there’s no need to butterfly the onion thru the center. I see a ton of people doing this but the onion has rings already which effectively achieves this. Try dicing just vertically then across, and omitting going through like that 🤙

Nice recipe! as a tip from a brazilian that eats beans almost everyday, soak your beans for 8 to remove the fart compounds and make them quicker to cook, with a pressure cooker you need only 15 minutes cooking to have fresh beans.
You in the ATX area? Factory gym is dope! Great videos as always
What type of vacuum sealer system is that? I like those valve equipped bags…
My local tortilla factory has 18in flour tortilla at 100 calories per tortilla. My last meal prep was chicken bacon ranch wraps. At like 600ish calories and 65 grams of protein. Had 2 bacon slices, chicken breast, pepper jack cheese slice, power greens, tomato and cottage cheese ranch. I drive semis and I eat them cold and are still banging. I marinate the chicken in a little olive oil, lemon juice, and spiceology Greek freek, and cayenne powder. Best on a charcoal grill to get some charred bits.
I had 14 inch tortillas that said 300 calories. When I added the ingredients on the label it was near 800 calories in reality. Be careful. That sounds impossible unless it is made out of 100+g of fiber. Sounds delicious though!
@@Exercise4CheatMeals damn lmao. Yeah I was like this seems too good to be true. They are very thin, that’s why I believed it. What’s your thoughts on the ole xtreme tortillas?
When it comes to canned refried beans (or nearly anything canned really) I end up adding my own seasonings and etc to them since you're totally right - they taste bland. That said, watching you cook yours has made me remember how delicious home made refried beans truly are compared to store bought. While I'll still go store bought if I'm strapped for time, I'll make more of an effort to *make* time and cook them right.

Solid video! Love how cost effective this is, if youre trying to get that price down more, making flour tortillas at home isnt that hard. Yes, much more work than making the beans from scratch, but i reckon you could get the price down significantly. Also, that dude complaining about simmering beans burning your house down is crazy! I thought he was going to mention the cost of keeping the stove on, not burning the house down lol.
Would it be cheaper to make the tortillas?
Question was the reason you went with the full 200 calorie tortillas price, taste or both?
Price first. But taste is definitely better. Wouldn’t of been a dollar burrito with the lower cal ones, but are a great substitute!
Nothing says easy more than prepping with your full size backpack on. 😂 me coming home and just getting to it, because if I sit down or do anything (like take my bag off) I won’t finish.

We don't have refried beans on a can where I live (Scandinavia), but do you think it could work with beans from a can? I have a perilous gas stove top I don’t want to leave for that long unattended. At best, it turns itself off. At worst... 🔥
Yes, it will.
200k BABYYYY
Have you ever used the slice/shred disc insert on the ninja food processor? It’s a game changer for shredding cheese.
I have not but its not a bad idea when needing to shred multiple blocks. Otherwise id just rather clean a box grater that only taks 45 seconds to clean.
I don't do as much beans but I usually add chicken or steak if I'm having a good week. Plus some extra lightly cooked pepper and onions. It increases the total cost but if you buy in bulk its not as much as you think. Pop them sumbitches in the airfryer so good.
From what I understand, doing an overnight soak and drain before cooking will do a lot to remove anti nutrients and improve digestibility with beans. Another tip would be to use or mix in black soy beans to lower the net carbs. This will raise the price though. But if you're adding meat and green chilies, you don't notice the difference much at all. I have a mild allergy to legumes, so I try to avoid them altogether.
You can add eggs or egg white to these and it works pretty well, same with chicken, ground turkey, beef ect. All you need to do to keep that meat, egg or whatever moist and not dried out as it cooks and mix it into the beans after that. When you reheat the beans will keep the meat or eggs from drying out. Even scrambled eggs will remain mostly moist if a bit rubbery from the microwave.
I meal prep Burritos like this to. I'll add some drained canned corn and pickled jalapeños for some texture and a spicy kick. Buying the can of whole pickled jalapeños in escabache and slicing them yourself is cheaper than buying the presliced rings.
Can I keep them in the fridge for 5 days even if I add some beef in the recipe?
Your refried beans look very good. Minor quibble, but there is no need to horizontally slice an onion when dicing it. The vertical cuts from root to stem julienne the onion, so a perpendicular cut dices them. Turning the knife 90 degrees over and cutting inward doesn't make your dice smaller, it just makes it inconsistent, and would be a "dangerous" cut for somebody who is new / not confident with a knife.
If you replace the standard tortillas with the commonly found "Keto" options you can drop these down to >300 cal per burrito. More expensive, but clutch when cutting weight.
I make my beans the opposite way, I cook the onion and garlic and spices first, and then add the beans and water to that. Then I pressure cook, but you can also simmer in a regular pot
i have an older stove and my beans wont cook on low. have to crack the lid and cook them on 3-4 where they cook in 2 hours.
Ok are we just ignoring the little secret around 4 minutes when he adds the cumin???

Around me in west Michigan the dried beans are more expensive 😂
How should we reheat in a microwave?
There are these carb counter tortillas that are about half the calories per sq inch and of course lower calorie. However, they don't have them in burrito size from what I saw. However, I bet you could make some boppin' taquitos with them and just have a serving of two instead of one. I get that it would be twice the tortilla so it doesn't really save calories, however you could do a "half serving" much easier and if not, you have slightly more volume.
You are like me bro, I have to get started right off after coming from gym.
