In the 2009/10 season, Jose Mourinho guided Inter Milan to an unprecedented treble. No Italian club has since won Serie A, their domestic cup the Coppa Italia, and the UEFA Champions League in one season, and only six teams have done it ever. In this video, we take a closer look at the team, and explain the theory behind the success.

    • @@engespress So basically, you came to a video talking about football history, to throw shade at someone's older achievements using his future? Also, if United looked like a small club, Pep's City shouldn't have lost at home when 2-0 up. "he's not as good as he thought he was" Last i checked, he's still the highest ranking active manager in world football. And before United, has never failed to win the league at any club he's been at. If we're talking about continuity and consistency in that regard, who are you to argue against that just because of a few poor seasons at a struggling club? Stop being a joke, and go cry elsewhere. Like we need biased dogs like you evaluating.

    • @@teerificbitch *"So basically, you came to a video talking about football history, to throw shade at someone's older achievements using his future?"* Not only his future, his PRESENT. Right now, Man Utd is outside the top 6. LOL. Wake up. If you took your head out of your ass and stopped living a delusional life, you would see where Man Utd is in the table. LVG also had his past achievements. Doesn't mean he wasn't sucky in his last jobs. *"Last i checked, he's still the highest ranking active manager in world football."* When Pep wins the Premier League this year, he will have won more league titles than Mourinho and the same number of Champions League titles, and Pep is younger and has had a shorter career than him. Sir Alex Ferguson is no longer active but even when he was, he far outranked Mourinho. 13 league titles to Mourinho's 8. *"And before United, has never failed to win the league at any club he's been at."* He's not the only manager to do that. And he moved around different leagues more than most, and the league titles stop coming when Pep is around. He applied for a job at Barca and got rejected. They got Pep who was barely known as a manager. Barca made the right decision. Pep's Barca beat Mourinho's Real in 7 matches out of 9, and in one match, humiliated him by beating him 5-0. *"If we're talking about continuity and consistency in that regard, who are you to argue against that just because of a few poor seasons at a struggling club?"* You call Man Utd, a 4-billion dollar club, one of the richest in the world, and one that has given him 400-million pounds in transfers, a "struggling club"? You show your bias. if this club is struggling it's because Mourinho has made it so. And yes, it's not doing well - went as low as number 10 and got beaten by West Ham and Brighton. Seems like you contradict yourself. You admit that Man Utd is "struggling", and yet you want to say Mourinho is doing well as a manager currently and you get upset if others say he's underperforming as a manager. *" If we're talking about continuity and consistency in that regard"* He's consistent in not being able to win major titles in his third season and fighting with players. Even came 15th at Chelsea in his third season and now brings Man Utd down to as low as 10th place. Hence, his famous third season syndrome. *"just because of a few poor seasons"* Not "Just because", but BECAUSE of a few poor seasons. Very poor seasons. Even below Watford, Wolves, Everton, Bournemouth at some stages and still below Spurs and Arsenal, smaller clubs. Shockingly bad. Sackable performance. So underperforming manager for a club of that size and the backing he's received. *"Stop being a joke, and go cry elsewhere."* Go ride his dick elsewhere if you don't want to hear criticism of Mourinho. *"Like we need biased dogs like you evaluating."* Your comment was one long screed in bias. Butt hurt that your precious Mourinho was called out. Sucky manager. The longer he stays at Manchester, the more of a dinosaur he reveals himself to be.

    • Pep destroyed Mourinho more times. In their derbies Barca won 7 matches. Real won 2 matches. In one match (2009), Barca thrashed Real 5-0. You can watch the match in its entirety on KZhead. And City dominates the league two seasons in a row. Mourinho is currently far behind, in 8th position, one of the worst starts to a season in Man Utd's PL history. Mourinho is an outdated egotistical manager. Pep moves with the times and adapts his tactics as needed. He modified his tiki taka strategy when it was no longer working well for him. Mourinho stays fixed using the same old tactics even when he fails with them. Even Chelsea and Arsenal have moved up past Man Utd and are well above it now. Mourinho is tanking in his third season. Don't say it's because Man City spent more than Man Utd. City is performing according to their investment. Man Utd is underperforming relative to their investment. No excuse for it to be in eighth place.

Zanetti played all over, DM, RB, CB but maybe least at LB. although he notably marked Messi out at that position. 3. Cesar was not a sweeper keeper. 4. Motta played as much as Stankovic did. 5. Now everyone can clearly see it in the Premier League. Possession tiki-taka football with pressing and wing attack is the best style of football today. Mourinho's defensive football and center attack is outdated and many times the club has been played out of the park by supposedly weak teams. The maddening thing is that Mourinho refuses to change his tactics. Too arrogant and egotistical probably to see that his methods are faulty.

And even sometimes for Balotelli/Pandev when Mourinho would change the system to 4-3-1-2. But Motta-Cambiasso were the main partnership.

    @007prestige5@007prestige57 жыл бұрын
    • . That is some top googling you've done there mate. But like 007 said, Stankovic covered for 3/4 different positions. So it doesn't mean much that he had more games or minutes OR starts. I don't know whether or not Motta-Cambiasso was the main partnership, it probably was in the big games, but you haven't convinced me otherwise.

      @rickenfatania@rickenfatania7 жыл бұрын
    • Yes, Cambiasso-Motta was the main partnership, but Motta was affected by various small injuries that season, that may explain the statistics. Anyways, Stankovic will always retain a more prestigious place in Inter history, not only because he played longer and won more titles, but mostly because he was and still is more attached to Inter colors than Motta, who never actually gave a shit about that.

      @RadX_98@RadX_985 жыл бұрын
    • Here is the brief history. Mourinho starts earlier as a coach and has phenomenal success as an unknown. He gets a reputation for being pragmatic. Barcelona were having problems in 06/07 and 07/08. They won UCL 3 years ago, but for these last 2 years, they were slipping. Ronaldinho was getting lazy and Deco had lost his spark. Barcelona got a new president and they set out to find a new manager. Mourinho desperately wanted the Barcelona job as he had worked there as an assistant coach/translator for Bobby Robson. But the Barca board were scared that he would cause too many problems and instead gave the job to their golden child Guardiola. Guardiola was a big risk as he had never coached a senior team before, unlike Mourinho who was a serial winner. However in Guardiola's first season, Guardiola won every trophy available. 6 in total including a phenomenal Champions League final. It had never been done before. Not only that, he did it in Barcelona's style with Barcelona youth players. They were the toast of world football and people all over the world aspired to play like them. Eventually, Mourinho's Inter met Guardiola's Barcelona and when Inter won, Mourinho ran onto the Camp Nou pitch to celebrate and try to humiliate the Barca board who rejected him. Mourinho's counterattacking went on to beat heavy favourites Bayern Munich in that year's final, another possession based team. Real Madrid was jealous of Barcelona and hired Mourinho to be Barcelona and Guardiola's Kryptonite. Barcelona welcomed Mourinho to La Liga by defeating Madrid 5-0 in their first match up and even though they lost that 10/11 season, there were signs of Madrid coming to life. Madrid won the next league season (11/12) in fantastic attacking fashion scoring a then record for points on the table and total league goals. But there were signs that despite the goals, Madrid weren't living up to the noble values that they were always known to for. Mourinho was accused of creating a team of thugs that played with a siege mentality. It was like he turned a team of royalty into a backstreet gang. And the competition became a battle of archetypes. The philosophical artistry of Guardiola against the pragmatic ruthlessness of Mourinho. However by this stage, the perfectionist Guardiola was already feeling the burnout and pressure from the Barca board. He left Barca after 4 years of success winning 14 trophies, including 2 UCL and 3 leagues. The next year, Barcelona returned to their dominating pattern under new coach Tito Vilanova and Mourinho's constant feistiness lost the trust of the club and dressing room and he was fired. Eventually Guardiola and Mourinho renewed their battle in Manchester. Guardiola's second season saw him create a recordbreaking Man City team. On the other hand Mourinho's Man United won the league cup and the FA cup. However, there was always a feeling that Mourinho's United side never lived up to their potential (as they finished outside the Champions League spots). Guardiola's City is still flying, while Mourinho is now out of work. The future looks to belong to Guardiola, but things can change quickly in football.

At first, I thought it was great and exciting to watch Dortmund (which it is!) but it's really hurt to witness the players fall for injuries (Reus as an example). Klopp's Liverpool this year as well: Half-first season great, the other half they start losing their peak.

I would bring alot of the stuff I was seeing out on the pitch during high school games. I saw one of the most well organized teams and it reminded me of the mavericks last run with Jason kidd. Had alot of guys finishing their careers strong this year.

  • one crucial point for 4-2-3-1 formation when inter was on the defensive mode,because of the small distances between the lines mourinho managed to create two defensive triangles in order to dramatically minimize the treat from the opponent's wingers by minimize the space in they were making their attacking movements (from the left side.chivu -cambiasso-pandev,from the right maicon-zanetti-eto'o were playing very close to each other and they were creating an area of "clashing rocks" from the each side

  • The way Mourinho still seeks Ibrahimovic to this day when he takes on a new job it's further demonstration that he is a much more complete manager than what most people think. Consider that Inter won that UCL because they got rid of the Swedish guy who used to get the ball and not play with the team like Eto' did after him. It is taxing for a team to have Mou as their manager, he is a great motivator but can leave a team "empty" after pushing the players for a whole year in tough fashion. Benitez found a drained team, both physically and mentally. On the bad side, a team might not tolerate his method. But when it does, he is sure they are totally committed. That's how Inter won the treble, getting rid of an extraordinary player for one keen to play for the team, and trusting their manager. Eto' was basically the only player who kept on playing well the year after: that's why he's one of the greates wingers ever and has uncanny ethics and love for the game.

    @darioalfredomichielini5850@darioalfredomichielini58507 жыл бұрын
    • Dario Alfredo Michielini the one problem with this explanation is that inter didn't want to sell Ibrahimovic, he left because Barca forced through the move and offered Eto'o as part of the deal. Also Millito was played exactly the way you said Ibrahimovic did.

      @mrsomeone846@mrsomeone8467 жыл бұрын
    • I'm good with the first part, apologies for the "getting rid" part :) The one about Milito I'm not quite sure. We'll never know, but I guess Ibra would have stomped on Snejder's feet in the build up.

      @darioalfredomichielini5850@darioalfredomichielini58507 жыл бұрын
    • Dario Alfredo Michielini The first Chelsea team he built won the CL after he left. The only addition was probably Anelka. His Real Madrid team also won two CLs after he left, he bought in Modric and a few others. We can argue about how much of that team was his, some players were there already, Bale and others were bought in after... But as for leaving teams drained and fatigued or whatever, that's not really true is it? Look at Chelsea this season. Probably Inter was the only team to do worse after he left. His Porto team failed to win the CL again because it was looted by Europe's top clubs - Deco, Carvalho etc

      @rickenfatania@rickenfatania7 жыл бұрын
    • That year for Inter was a now or never situation. All the starting xi were around their 30s and luckily for Mou they were all in top form. Mou left Benitez with an old squad who had already seen their best days and 0 ambition for the upcoming season. Inter has been experimenting with different players and rebuilding their squad from scratch these past years if you think about it. I wouldn't be surprised if they bring in a top manager again to win them the CL once they get a fix on their starting xi and gain some stability in Serie A like they did 10 years ago.

Start from the back and make his way up top. Man Utd need 2 solid central defenders, also need better wing backs (Sandro would be a good addition, maybe Florenzi to deputies for Valencia). They also need another solid CDM, allow Pogba de freedom of roaming maybe play him like he did for Sneijder and they should be fine. They have enough attacking flair up top to let them have fun.
