    • Ain't gonna happen though. Not while I'm alright Jack and my heating's on, my bills are paid, the next boxset's starting and my new elephant skin sofa's just come in. Nope, don't think I'll be rebelling on behalf of the plebeian poor; I'll just blot out the memory of the starving disabled woman taking her last few breaths in a rusted wheelchair.

    • Riots come, parliament gets blown up, then the Chinese invade ten minutes later to fill the power vacuum. Maybe even one of the many radical political groups will take over the entire country and start lopping heads off until everyone agrees with them.

    • A week isn't long enough for them to even begin to comprehend, Steve... they need at least six months suffering the same fate as the least fortunate amongst our society, and even that period wouldn't really relay the hopelessness of those who will spend the rest of their lives below the bottom rung of the proverbial ladder. After all, most people could readily survive quite intact, both physically and mentally, knowing that after a mere week or even six months they'll return to their former position of debt free comfort and affluence.

I told her it is my first time and then she grilled me for being there. I was there because i was loosing my job and was not able to pay rent. Made to feel like a begger to claim my own dam right for help after paying years of Tax through the nose.

    • @Ashok Hegde, a lot of the working poor do not have extra money to put aside for a rainy day. Every day is a rainy day for them. Some people can put away a little each month, but I know two people who have no cash by the end of the month. They both pay all their bills and buy groceries. Both prepare meals that will last a several days like casseroles, stews, meat loaf, rice and pasta dishes. They usually only have coins toward the latter part of the month.

    • It's got no better in the time since. I've been in work for the last 5 years but needing UC to top up what I needed because it was zero hour contract. In April I got a letter from UC falsely stating I had been overpaid by £340. I had everything to prove that it wasn't the case, tried to phone them, tried to email them and got told to leave a message in an online journal. So I did that- they ignored it for 2 weeks. I needed help to get photo ID for a job opportunity- the job had been offered to me but photo ID was a necessity of the job because it was at an airport and they denied me a grant or short term loan of £70 because "it wouldn't assist in getting a job" even though they were made fully aware that having it would guarantee me full time work. I wasnt allowed to see someone in person about the money I was supposed over paid, and on Monday when I was finally able to I brought it up and they said I had to have challenged it within a month of getting the letter. Which I did only for them to ignore me. I'm resigned to starving to death now. But for them that will just be another person no longer in poverty, it will be seen as a positive.

    • Michael realises that we don’t need money to survive - we need each other, in cooperation and collaboration to create prosperity and abundance. He states that “MONEY DOES NOTHING - PEOPLE DO EVERYTHING”. Money is the tool of control that prevents people from achieving their goals and applying their talents for the benefit of the community. Bankers decide what we can and cannot do, by withholding funds from people and not granting loans - because according to them, our plans are often NOT FINANCIALLY VIABLE. Michael creates a new word called Contributionism - a system in which money does not exist - and people contribute their talents and skills for the benefit of everyone in the community, without any barter, trade, exchange, or value attached to anything - where all our contributions must be seen as equally valuable. CONTRIBUTIONISM becomes the first -ism in history that does not use money or any form of trade or exchange - to create unimaginable prosperity and abundance for the entire community.

Their job centers call people regularly and email them about available jobs and benefits if they entitled to and help them to prepare CV and chase application process I know one person in there who faced domestic violance, the police and social service protected the victim and family within 24 hours and found a voluntary job and benefit for her by 48 hours. She always said that it wasn't the cancer that would kill her, but this awful Universal Credit System. Prior to her cancer she worked, from managerial positions to working as a teaching assistant. But, she found the system very difficult to manage in her time of need. She took her own life recently as a result of the struggles she endured on Universal Credit. She was only 43. Prior to her ending her life she sold all her belongings including jewelry to try to get by. She was a very proud woman, but felt the injustice by "the system". Facing sanctions for being too ill to attend some appointments. She took her own life as a result of how cruel this system is. We did all we could to support her, but she was a very proud woman and didn't want to take anything from others. The consequences of UC are brutal. My sisters name was **Susan Kingston**.

We also have such low unemployment that we have to import hundreds of thousands of foreign workers each year. Why do the British working class not want to work anymore? Is it because they can get the same amount of money or more on benefits that they could get in a factory job?

Now people on benefits are used as a Scape goat for social problems while the ruling class get to eat dinner in litteraly gold plated halls in parliament. But it's not like we actually want to change it. Having poor people trapped in a benefit system is what we want, we are happy with it despite our complaining and we won't do anything to change it or to stand up to the wealthy ruling class.

I crushed 5 vertebrae and damaged 7 disc’s and was refused disability benefit and told I could have jobseekers allowance because there was still jobs I could do even though I’m paralysed from the waist down and have limited movement in my arms. I had to appeal and was given £29 a week until my appeal which took 14 months until the appoitment. I won my appeal just like 90% of everyone else who has an appeal. The reason this has happened is because their is subcontractors doing the medical’s and they were getting paid for every person they deemed fit for work. There was an undercover program on the subject and one of the people doing the medicals admitted he was making £18,000 a month and knew before he saw the person if they were going to be made to seek work or not and some days he said he wouldn’t pass a single person. The conservatives have targeted the most vulnerable in society they’ve also cut funding to mental health by 80% and social care is virtually non existent.

  • For something that was originally envisaged to be available to everyone, the Department for Work & Pensions has made it nearly impossible to claim for. I've worked all my life, but there was a moment when I was made redundant and had to claim for UC. I spent ages filling in the many complicated forms, waited for weeks for a response, phoned them many times to find out what was going on, only to be eventually told that I wasn't applicable! I'd paid my taxes without fail, but because I'm single with no family of my own I'm not eligible for anything, not even basic assistance with the rent? *Disgusted doesn't cut it.* I had to get by doing odd local jobs for people, cash in hand, doing anything from mowing lawns to fixing folks' stuff just to survive. God bless my sympathetic neighbours and my understanding landlord, because Universal Credit is nothing but a kick in the teeth for the working man.

    • Because Tony Blair sold out the British working man to the European project that had a catastrophic affect on availability of jobs and housing. The result of this EU project is, low wages supported by government approved minimum wage, astronomic house prices, supported by changes in the law made by Tony Blair in 1997 to abolish mortgage underwriters. The NHS is broken because of the 300,000 extra people that come here every year. Britain is broken as a direct result of the last Labour government. Thats why people have voted for the conservatives. Margret Thatcher predicted all this in 1992. twitter.com/darrengrimes_/status/1207046547155902466?s=04&fbclid=IwAR3cOo0w-YFbTWer6IABY0w0uVHnZ0saD4LyfwhRM98Dp4JS-r2HLUPwS_s

  • I turned 25 a few months ago and I started getting paid more by them.. when I was in my earlier 20's I really REALLY needed to opportunity to get myself out of a situation where I was dependent on the charity of lovely people but the peer pressure of being involved with drugs which ultimately felt like the price to pay for company and shelter. When I hit 25 I was out of the woods largely with some horror stories that would certainly have been avoided. I just think UC does a bloody awful job of helping specifically vulnerable young adults safety and to access their potential- I offered a multitude of solutions if I could have even had an advanced payment to start a business- I always paid my debts before even eating so I really do feel let down. Especially seeing as I'm in this position because they forced me to stay in school where socialisation was a huge problem for me from an early age it caused me a distain for authority which simply is an obstacle for surviving in these modern times.
