  • When I was in Highschool I took some kind of test where you answer a ton of questions and it'll give you some idea of what you may want to do for a living. Everyone got multiple answers across several fields. I only got one result, which was Goat Farmer. Back then I remember thinking, well that was a waste of time, but now that I'm older I'd say, "Yeah, I'd probably do that." lol.

  • I definitely struggled with trying to find the proper weight for my dairy goats. Being a new goat mom, having mostly had horses and dogs, it was hard for me to not over feed them.

  • I love you channel! I raise Alpine goats as well and I absolutely love them!! and I love watching your goats they are so beautiful. I liked your video that was from 5 years ago that taught me how to load the goats into A trailer or truck. Gave me a great understanding on the hierarchy. It also helped me for when I load them into a gated area.😊👍 I really have to commend you on the treatment of your goats you have inspired me!!

  • I’ve just been plain guessing my weights based on their weight on my lap, or when I have to lift a little to load them… but when I need to worm anyone they are going to get on the sheep scale, for sure. My big boy is way lower on endurance compared to my doe and their kid. Every time weight, condition, or conformation comes up I feel a little for Noah… but he’s such a trooper, and I hope he hears all the positive comments on heart, curvy goats need love too! And the herd record book almost became Wolf snacks! 😂

  • I appreciate you sharing your experience with weight tapes versus scale. I've found the same with my wethers, having taken them to a vet clinic twice to confirm their weights. The weight tape or weight calculations based on diameter have overestimated weight by about 10-15 lbs every time.

  • I believe I heard you say on one of your videos that goats aren’t ready for packing until around 4 years old. So even around 1-1/2 & 2 years old and there weights right where you like them, they wouldn’t be ready for packing now? Great videos mark, thank you

    • Actually I begin packing them lightly at 2. Here is an article that will help. packgoats.com/pack-goat-conditioning-and-weight-bearing-timeline/

  • what about measuring their heart girth then the length of them from shoulder bone to hip bone. Then, Heart girth × heart girth × length = total total ÷300 = approximate weight of goat

  • So would the heavier goats be better for pulling? I'm stuck on this goat-cart idea now. What are your thoughts?
