  • that slow launch from MvdP at 59km is just insane. it is not a sudden increase of speed, like a demarrage, but just slowly increasing speed and keeping it. no one can follow, even not after the cobbels on the tarmac with a full group. its just from a complete different level of cycling. slowly from 3 to 5 to 7, to 10 to 15 seconds and then it was done.

MvdP is one of a kind, the Max Verstappen of cycling. I would recommend everyone to watch every race he is in, it is so much worth it. I am not even so much a cyling fan, I barely watch it, but MvdP has me watching full races now. I think that says enough about his skill.

It seems when ever he takes to the start line peloton know thier fate, the DS of other teams should worry about thier job. No clue how to reign in MVDP. Wonder if Van Aert should stuck to his older plan and not invested so much at altitude. He was better off at Cyclo Cross leading up to these races.

    @dhirajmasandful@dhirajmasandfulАй бұрын
    • What? Did you bump your head? Van Aert crashed in their first race against each other then started from a stand still and brought a 45 second gap down to 11 seconds. Then he crashed broke 7 ribs, collarbone, sternum. We have no idea what his form was. We only saw him at one race after altitude and he did damn good despite crashing.

  • Welcome to the new normal in one-day races: get a decent gap with an hour-plus before the finish and the rest of the peloton will argue amongst themselves before quickly settling in to race for second place. MVDP was probably going to win today, but the way his opponents gave up once he got a gap was a shame, and it made for a boring finale (see also: Strade Bianchi.) an actual ambitious chase group (even one with some of his teammates in it) could have kept his lead short enough to force him to push and take risks which might've resulted in a fall or puncture, at which point suddenly the chase group is back in the game. Modern cycling tactics value low-risk third place over high-risk first place, and it's a shame.

    • I think the teammates are key. It's not that MVDP was going to win today, but that Alpecin led by MVDP and backed by Philipsen and Vermeersch was going to win. Group 2 dynamics (at any distance to the finish) are because everyone in the group is on equal footing and Alpecin's startlist made sure they would have 2 or 3 guys when everyone else had 1.

  • The worst edition I can remember in a howler for the spring classics in general. Ok Wout would have made Flanders and Roubaix competitive. No other sport though has so many top names missing regularly from flagship events. Perhaps we need to introduce a ranking system with the riders competing for the No. one spot where the Monuments are compulsory. Imagine watching Remco, Tadej, Wout, Mathieu and Tom battle it out! Then maybe Rob Hatch’s ludicrous hyperbole, “A race for the ages” might actually bear some relation to the truth. Best wishes to Wout, Jonas, Remco and others in their recovery.
