I 100% agree we need to start the season sooner. I'd be happy with the preseason starting as early as September 1st. They could have more break days and even add a few games to the season. For me personally, I think the preseason should be just 3 games to show off rookies and shake the rust off. With an earlier start and less preseason games you would have a cushion to add a round if we added new franchises. or simply extend the season to 85 games.

I know, right? The longer I'm a fan of this league the more teams I hate. At this point it's about which team I hate less rather than which team I like more...in this case I'm pulling for Dallas.
Shannon, what you said about the Jack Adams, yeah beyond agree and it's why we're stunned Bedsy didn't win. He did that, the surprise turn around from worst year ever to play off team and gentlemens swept the Flames, since then he's been an amazing coach coaching a great team year in year out, he and Cooper are the 2 biggest snubs for that award in years.
After only 1 of 8 series starting 2-2, 3 series potentially having game 7s is pretty remarkable

I mentioned this elsewhere but I think the ending to the season did Torts in. They generally don't like giving the award to teams that miss the playoffs, but I think if the team had been more consistent and just missed the playoffs rather than going 2-6-2 in the last 10 games he likely gets more consideration. People try to be impartial but there's always going to be a bit of a recency bias.

He just got Edmonton to do what they were supposed to do. He's not the best coach of the year.

@@tequila6306 No Snubbing, but What all the other coaches did was not expected at all. With Oilers there was an understanding that they can come back even if they didn't do a coaching chance. But I agree that Knoblauch did change their course from "comeback" to "Almost pacific division toppers". You have a point, it's just what others did was unprecedented.

I know they had to make a decision on when to start Round 2 before the weekend but if both series see a Game 7 then I would push the start of Round 2 to Monday so as not to conflict with those games. If either ends tonight then Sunday would be the start day for Round 2.

Not surprised round 2 starts Sunday instead of Saturday. NHL wants all the attention on the Boston Toronto series that day for good reason
2nd round starts Sunday when there's still potential round 1 games on that day have they ever done this before where they don't wait for all the series to be done
I think during one of the covid seasons, there were rescheduled (and ultimately meaningless) regular season game being made up during the playoffs lol

I think the only reason they’re willing to do it is because the East has all of its Round 1 series over before starting the East Round 2. That’s why it’s Sunday and not Saturday when Toronto and Boston are still playing. The rangers will have had a full week off between the end of their sweep and the start of round 2, and I don’t think the league wants it to be any longer than that
Yes. May 29, 2021 the Bruins played the Isles for game 1 of round 2. May 31 the Habs played the Leafs in game 7 of round 1. April 27, 2016 the Preds played the Ducks in game 7 of round 1 and the Isles played the Lightning in game 1 of round 2. Those are the only examples of the overlap in actual games happening I could find going back to 2010, but I'm sure there were other times where a game 7 might've been scheduled but wasn't needed. Most of the time there was 1-2 days minimum between them.
Based on the quality of play in game 6, Florida should be licking their chops at the opportunity in the next round 😂

It drives me nuts when the NHL overlaps rounds 1 and 2. I do a pool every year where we draft a couple new players before round 2 and when this happens it makes that draft really complicated. Why can't NYR-CAR just start on Monday? If Vancouver and Dallas both win tonight, one day of no games isnt gonna hurt anybody.
Can’t argue too much with any of the Jack Adam’s finalists, but I’d argue for Laviolette over Bowness, given they were the most consistent team and won the president’s trophy because of that consistency.
Laviolette shouldn't be in consideration cuz the rangers were an already good team. It should be Torts over him and Bowness. Regardless, I think Tochett is going to win it anyway.

Boston lost the last 3 game 7’s (2019-STL / 2022-CAR / 2023-FLA) but the 2 before that they won against Toronto (2018-BOS / 2019-BOS) obviously those are further back and not as representative of Boston as we know them now and having 2 years of game 7 losses in the first round consecutively speaks lots to where they are. Boston leads the league for most game 7 losses with 15 and second place is Toronto with 14 if im betting on the game I think I would say Toronto despite thinking they would have lost this already but just the pressures of needing to turn this back around with the looming losses of previous seasons its really a case of if Boston can fi d their footing again, and if im being honest it really doesn’t look good with 4 shots in 30 mins. Its hard to argue Toronto won but thats just tiring them out it really doesn’t look like it. Just really is up to if Boston figures things out
