21 Human Behaviors Dogs Hate the Most

In this video, we’ll discuss the top 23 human behaviors that dogs hate and wish you wouldn’t do.
There are certain human behaviors that dogs secretly hate. Here are some things that you didn't realize annoy your dog.
Dinner Time Interruptions
If someone kept touching you during your dinner time, you’d get annoyed. When your dog is eating, respect their bliss and let them be. Place the dish in a low-traffic area, and instruct all your family members to let the dog eat in peace.
Same food over and over
Dogs don’t like it when you eat the best food, and all they get is dog food. Prepare a special meal for your dog.
Luckily, you do not need to drastically change your dog’s food on a daily basis. Dogs have only a fraction of the taste buds that humans have, which means they don’t get bored of eating the same food as often as humans do.
Being Put Away When Friends come over
Dogs are very social animals. Keeping your dog in the backyard and ignoring them when your friends come over is like solitary confinement for your dog.
Cleaning them too often
Dogs keep themselves clean in their own especial way and their body scent is a way of communicating with other dogs or animals. If you wash your dog too frequently when they aren’t actually dirty, you’re doing them no favors.
The smell of scented shampoos on their fur may send them running straight outside to roll on the stinkiest thing they can find.
Being scolded without understanding why
dogs don’t understand what they have done wrong or what is going on. By scolding your pet, you are passing your angry and negativity without addressing the main problem.
Forced Socialization
Just like humans, dogs simply don’t like bonding with certain dogs.
Over Exercise
extended runs or exercise can be hard or harmful for certain breeds or senior dogs. For instance, short-nosed breeds like pugs and bulldogs have respiratory issues and are not good for running long distances.
Summer Heat
Unlike humans, dogs don't sweat so they don't tolerate high temperatures as well as humans do.
While your dog does have some sweat glands in their paws, these do little to help regulate their body temperature. Instead, A dog's primary cooling mechanism is panting.
Roughhousing
Children can sometimes agitate or annoy a dog. Kids may pull on a dog’s ears or tail, poke its eyes, or try to ride a big dog.
Teasing them with treats
Treats should be used as reward, but not an instrument to tease or trick your pet.
The Baby Treatment
Many dog owners confuse caring for their dogs with treating them like babies.
Expecting a dog to do things he simply cannot or has no understanding of may lead to anxiety and confusion.
A common example is a dog who chews expensive furniture or defecates in the house. In reality, the dog could be stressed, have separation anxiety, is sick or is not properly house-trained.
Loud Music
Loud noises are stressful for your dog because canines can hear sounds four times as far as humans. Thunder, fireworks, police sirens, and loud vehicles are probably the most common noise phobia triggers. People who listen to loud music in their cars with their dogs in the car are probably harming their dogs.
Arguing in Front of Them
When you are fighting with your spouse or a friend, dogs may try to break up a fight by barking or coming over to you with a toy. Some dogs will also steal your favorite belongings because they know you will leave the argument to chase them down.
Ignoring Them After You Have A Baby
Some pet owners ignore their dogs when they bring a baby into their home.
This can be a difficult time for a dog because they’re no longer the center of the attention.
Too Much Alone Time
Dogs are very social animals and those who left alone in a home for ten or more hours each day can develop behavioral and psychological issues such as separation anxiety, destructive behavior, excessive barking, digging, or even escaping.
You Give up
There are times when it’s best to rehome a dog. But then there are the owners who give up without trying to address whatever issues they have with their pets. Unwanted behaviors such as destructive separation anxiety, leash aggression, or going potty inside can get better with training and age.
And the vast majority of dogs in shelters don't make it out alive.
Being Upset
Recent studies have shown that when humans cry, their dogs also feel distress.
if you are going through a period of depression or stress, it is bound to affect your dog.
Being the Potty Police
Canines want nothing more than to stop, sniff and explore their surroundings.
Rushing your dog through a walk without allowing them to stop and sniff is unkind.
A Tight Leash!
Dogs can read humans tension levels through their leash.
If you are keeping a loose leash, you are telling your dog that everything is fine and relaxed. A tight leash, on the other hand, means you are tense or nervous.
Dogs get irritated if they are being pulled on their leash all the time.

  • Brandon mcmillan is the most gentle, thorough and effective dog i've ever encountered. My friend and i love the dog show and never miss it. So many times we've shed a tear of happiness just seeing a dog's life changed forever when proper training is applied and they go on to live their lives the way they should. I have brandon's book kzhead.infoUgkxK8-VQWpYThx4IC6MiIvb6VS1ebTzzdxq in two formats. Not only the paperback version but also the kindle version to refer to when i don't have the paperback along with me. I have used his methods with my cavalier kc spaniel and turned a non-disciplined furbaby into a companion who has traveled thousands of miles with us across the country. He is a near perfect dog thanks to brandon's methods. I don't get one cent of kickback for recommending brandon but i do it because i love dogs. They deserve to be given a chance. Brandon's mission in life - to rescue dogs and place them in a forever, happy home - is very dear to my heart. I recommend his methods to anyone who has a dog - young or old. I've seen him take even old dogs and teach them. Brandon was an animal trainer before his current mission. His parents were animal trainers. His methods are the best i've ever found. Your furbaby will thank you for spending the money on this book. Don't hesitate - it is worth every cent.

  • For a tight leash, I just stop the moment the dog starts tugging. It usually only takes ~1-3 outings for them to learn that if they want to sniff and explore, they can't be dragging me along. They'll tug when they get excited and see another dog, but they'll immediately go back once they realize I'm not moving. From there, we approach at a nice pace and everything is good. Sometimes, it's not about positive or negative reinforcement, but remaining impartial and letting them do what they do and limiting them when they take that too far.

    • @@ericah6546 I... did not know that, but its good to know I didn't come up with the idea. I just thought about how people learn. You present a set of rules and let them experience and find their own drives. If a baby wants to move on their own, they have to crawl. If they want to communicate, they need to talk. If a dog wants to sniff something, it has to do so at a reasonable pace. The only real difference is that when teaching animals, you need to generally speak their language if you want to teach them yours for punishment or reward. The key is for them to understand *why* things are happening. My cats understand that clawing the carpet earns booties. My dog understands that barking excessively earns a muzzle. (Not in a cruel way. I only keep it for as long as they attempt then remove once they stop. Muzzling dogs for little yips and yaps is horrible too. Just those cases where you run into a dog barking for 5-10 mins straight at a passer by, for example.) Hitting an animal *rarely* communicates what people would think and the only time I've seen even giving a spank to be useful is with dogs that are normally kind but lash out violently to specific things or when there's a lack of understanding as to what they're capable of. And I'm not talking minor, I'm talking about potential visits to the hospital or vet. Then, a spank can often show that purposely hurting others earns the same back. But its a difficult one to do right. I've only ever done it *ONCE* with a cat that didn't realize that it was a bit too big to be playing like it was with the other cats. Maine Coon With a bunch of normal cats. If you've ever seen one... you can see where the problem came in. One spank showed "Oh crap... being bigger means that if I do something light... it can hurt." They were more gentle from then on and they're a happy, affectionate cat now. I think she's 7 now?

  • I love his show and thisjust summarizes and lays out all of the basic methods he uses on the show. What i love about this guide kzhead.infoUgkxKkYeOoCV_w2vPX0CSyVWkhew2c4FYk0d is that you don' need to read the whole book cover to cover ... You can skip to the chapter (lesson) you want to read about. The book is arranged almost as a problem-solving guide ... Here is the problem and here is what you need to know/do to correct it. This man knows his stuff ... But more importantly knows how to teach people how they can work with their pups themselves!

  • Negative reinforcement can work when you find the problem immediately and it’s fresh in their mind. Discipline is important for forming a trained dog, but obviously if you wait too long to scold them they won’t understand. You have to either catch them in the act or find it soon after, otherwise scolding won’t work. But it can.

    @knotsoangelic@knotsoangelic2 жыл бұрын
    • I mean sure it can, but positive reinforcement has proven to be more efficient. So why “discipline?” I really think “discipline” is used more for the owner getting their frustration out, rather than the training itself. I’ve seen both methods used & 95% of the time, training using discipline just taught the dog to be more sneaky about what they want to do. While positive reinforcement made them happy & eager to do only what their owners were pleased with. If that makes sense. 🙂

I’m dog sitting a husky rn & when he growls he is told no & goes back in the crate for a while. It’s not that big of a deal but an aggressive dog can be dangerous to other dogs or humans & that’s not okay.

    • Have your parents watch a video about understanding dog body language. There are excellent ones on the Internet. This way your parents will recognize stress behavior in your dog and understand the effect they are having on him. Use your allowance or birthday money or get a small job, to pay for some sessions with a good POSITIVE trainer. Most trainers will be happy to teach you how to train your dog yourself and will make you a good deal on a package of lessons. Good trainers will try to help you. I’ve done free lessons for people who can’t afford lessons, many times. There are also free puppy classes in some communities. Ask at your pet food store and they will be able to give you some options.

    @tamsinwalsh8796@tamsinwalsh87963 жыл бұрын
    • Freda Jordan the reason trainers advise that is because when you leave, a dog may get anxious. Greeting and playing with them as soon as you get home feeds their fear that you were in danger while you were away, and then they become even more anxious. It may seem odd, but it’s true. Obviously this is not the case for all dogs, but for some it is very serious and a trainer can pick that up. Trainers understand dog and they understand how their minds work. :)

    • This may be heartbreaking to hear, but sadly, dogs don't like being hugged. It's a display of aggressiveness/dominance to your dog and may cause them to growl or bite when their owners are ignoring or are ignorant of doggy bodily cues of being uncomfortable when being hugged.

I live in an apartment so literally for 6 moths before putting her down (she had bad arthritis and started collapsing regularly and started going blind) anyways, I had to take her to dog park ever hour thru out the night. 1,2,3,4,5 am every single night while I worked too. And even.. then she still had accidents in the apartment. Smh. It was so hard on all of us but she was family and I never punished her for peeing in house. I knew she was house trained and it was due to her age. So please ppl, watch out for that and don’t get upset when they get old or have issues. They are family and have to be treated like it.

    • raymond daubney I completely understand where your coming from. My dog grew up alongside my son but also with me and even though I had another dog, we all roamed around for a while not knowing what to do without her. It was even hard on my other dog. It just seemed so quiet in the house. I am truly very sorry for your loss because i know it is a true loss. The only comfort I get is knowing I gave her the best loving life I could and I know she knew that as well. Even tho it hurt like hell, I wouldn’t have traded the time with her for anything. I know she’s also free of pain and is probably running around in doggie heaven. I have her ashes in an urn and it’s sitting above the dog food bin so I say hi to her every morning and it’s been a little over a year now. Good things is, I only smile when I do it now, I don’t cry and soon you will too when remembering your dog.

  • It breaks my heart when people say that dogs or any other animal for that matter don't have feelings or don't have the capacity to feel certain things the way we do. All it takes is to look at an animal to understand that yes, they can. Some people treat their pets like a toy or like their property. I mean, I understand that yeah, your pet is your property to a certain extent but they still should be treated just as you would want to be treated. Please don't get an animal if you even think for a second that you might not be able to handle it because like he said in the video, there's too many animals in shelters and a disgusting amount of them never leave there alive. Actually most of them are given a time frame of adoption and if they aren't adopted in that time, they get out down. So please take care of your pets, they love you unconditionally and expect nothing but love in return. They deserve so much better than a shelter or someone who doesn't care.

    • I'm pretty sure they can't feel piety or existential nihilism or things like that. But pets absolutely should be treated like property, that doesn't mean you don't care about them. Just that the owner is the owner, the pet is the pet. Dogs have all kinds of different expectations from their nature and instincts, that's why the authority of the owner has to come before everything else, to keep dogs from doing things like attacking people or other animals or destroying things or even just pooping on your carpet. You only get the real kind of love (not based on attention, treats and petting) if you develop the right kind of relationship.

Both my dogs come to my husband and I and smash their faces against our mouths to get kisses. They both love them and they both even reciprocate, licking us on our faces and my older dog will even hold my face and lick my head. They also lick each other in the face often. As far as hugs go, my younger dog will come to us and wrap her paws around our necks and hug us. I never force a hug on either of my dogs or squish them when they do hug us.

    • Your dog's "hugs" seem like a possessive behaviour. It's the way dogs protect their property (you in this case). Even if they seem friendly to you, it may be not the case. You need to pick up the vibes of other dogs. It may cause jealousy and aggression and it might be dangerous in the future. I don't know your exact situation, but please consult your vet/dog psychologist.

      @alwayshangrygirl463@alwayshangrygirl4633 жыл бұрын
    • It depends on the dog. I've had/have dogs that love nothing more than being kissed and cuddled, and other dogs that prefer any kisses to be initiated by them, and do not enjoy long cuddles. Like people, every dog has a different personality.

      @liisaks1@liisaks13 жыл бұрын
    • @@liisaks1 the problem is not kisses/hugs. In this case the problem is that the dogs force the owner to give them hugs and kisses and it sounds like in a very demanding way

  • My husband had a life-altering accident and was in facilities for almost a year. I purchased a dog while he was in rehab recovering, and he came home when the dog was around 8 or 9 mos. Prior to that, my dog was the center of attention to everyone in the house. Once my husband came home, it shifted, and we would have all hands on deck to care for him because he couldn't do it. I would close my dog Brodie out of the room so he wouldn't get in our way. And when I would come back into the living room he would have Destroyed some of my husband's personal things! Some were expensive, or valuable. I would place it up high, and Brodie would go out of his way to get it, and he'd rip it to shreds. I was so shocked! We soon start letting Brodie come into the room and gave him boundaries. He was a lot happier with that, and he stopped destroying my husband's things LOL.

  • About the “putting them away from when come over” you kind of have to especially with my big Labrador. He’s very big and jumpy and all of my friends are scared of every single dog in the world. You have to respect your guests first and make sure they feel safe in your home. Also with the “same food again” you can’t really help it as much since my dogs food is just dry food. But since he was a puppy, occasionally (every 1-2 days or so) I will get him a special treat.

And we gave her 🍫 candy and cookies 🍪 all the time and she never got sick.from too much chocolate and she loved 😍 💞 🥰 💝 milk 🥛. And I would tease the daylights out of her. Messing with her snout pinning her mouth shut especially when she was barking excessively. I feel bad the way we treated her. "I'm so sorry Tammy!" Thanks for posting this for future reference. • The fact that rewarding a dog is key, and not punishing is very true. But you do need dominance over your dog. This is where it goes wrong all the time, dominance can be done very friendly, without yelling or touching, it's an attitude, body language, no words needed. If you don't have that, big problem.

Unless it is functional to protect a short-haired dog from very cold weather there is no reason to dress them in anything but a collar. I also, don't understand people that go out of their way to buy a purebred dog like a husky and live in a place that is too hot for that type of dog, a dog that needs tons of outdoor activity.
