  • My advice is...if you take a rickshaw or tuk-tuk in any country, expect to be ripped off. These guys don't want nor care about your returned business. I'm sorry if I sound rude but it's always been my experience. It's a fun experience until they do something like this, ask for more than what they promised or take you to places you didn't ask to go to. They're worse than the taxi drivers.

    • Yup. Mandarin is even taught in schools (in Malaysia and Singapore) instead of Cantonese or Hokkien. So if you don't speak either Cantonese or Hokkien, but as long as you know Mandarin, you can pretty much get around in most parts of Malaysia that have significant Chinese populations since the majority of them will know Mandarin in addition to their native dialect. However, there are many amongst the younger generations (such as myself) who only know Mandarin and not so much of the other Chinese dialects. I can get around well in Mandarin, but my Cantonese is pretty bad and my Hokkien is non-existent, despite being primarily of Hokkien descent myself.

I couldn’t get enough of those-people-exploring-Penang videos, I always curious on what are those attractive Penang things/ places/foods that international tourists find interesting which I totally missed out. By the way, I am Penang local people. 😅 Again, please keep exploring Malaysia as it really is a hidden gem 💎 that nobody noticed of when comes to international level speaking. We, Malaysians think that our country is beautiful, and we hope to share it with every person in the world, so glad to knowing that you both are happy at Malaysia in general.
