  • If you are going to serve food that has been opened it is imperative that your entire family is extremely clean when eating from it beforehand (no hands in the bag). I like opening up fresh packages when guests come so they know it is clean - even though I am extremely careful during food prep. Just a thought! ❤️

Plate an inch from edge of table, knife blade toward plate, even where to place the glass, it was something that always stuck with me. Now I will remember your tip as well. Love it, even though I knew what goes where, this will be a fun tip to share with my granddaughter when she is old enough to have little parties with. One of my favorite decor ideas that I use over and over are some veggie cans that I spray painted gold and copper. I just fill them up with whatever flowers or plants I can find on the farm and it makes a pretty centerpiece and I always get compliments on them....plus it was free! Sometimes I add ribbon or burlap around the cans and sometimes they are left plain (painted)

  • For the 4th I pulled out food that was already in my freezer and slapped that on the grill. I had other people bring soda chips and deserts. I used dishes and colored plastic cups I had already from the dollar tree ( didn't wanna spend the money on paper plates and stuff, but doing dish after did kick my butt!). I took some old cloth packed away that I hemmed and stemmed to get the wrinkles out and threw it on the table. I think the only thing I bought was some plastic red, white and blue confetti that I sprinkled on the tables for decor and sparkle. And I used my hand vac to suck that up after and re-bagged it for another time!

    • And also inportant; tell it when you are aspected to eat at a party. With us in the Netherlands it is not standard that you get dinner on a birthday. We were once invited for drinks and snacks, that's how it was written on the invitation. So I assumed that we would have dinner at home afterwards. When we got there there were no snacks but there was a lot of dinner at the end of the party. So we thought that was probably for the family that was there too, and we were not invited to dinner, out of politeness we went home where the food was ready. The hostess was very insulted that we did not keep eating, but I also said that we would let you know that we were expecting to eat. Then we would have known that and taken that into account.

  • Ask for help is a good idea. I am 1 of 5 sisters. We all have this thing.. We dont even have to ask eachother but if one of us is having a party or get together we ALWAYS offer to help eachother with food/sides, drinks, plates/forks, party decor. So anytime its one of our kids bday.. They always have a nice party because their mama and aunts all put it together. 💜

  • I will definitely use the use what you have tip, allows you to entertain more! Although, I am not big into potlucks, because it feels like you are sacrificing quality since you are essential giving up control because not everyone makes food to high standards unless they are hosting.

    • My family does fresh snacks for the guests and the leftovers for the family lmao 😅 best part of my parents holding a boring party was the leftover crisps, chips, cake etc that had been in the kitchen all week, mocking us from the shelf

  • I am from Czech Republic (Europe) and we are use to serve just a several snacks at party. We serve a full meal only in case we invite someone really close (family or best friends) and it is not called party but brunch, lunch, dinner, whatever the time is. Party is for much more people.
