He never lost his brilliance in game,he just made a wrong decision (leaving Liverpool) at wrong time(as neymar replacement and that to under valverde).his bundesliga run show that he still have what he always had (pure talent).
Dembele was Neymar replacement, not Coutinho. He wasn't moved to wing until he flopped after being given a lot of time in midfield. He wasn't played out of position. He's playing in the same areas in Bayern. He just didn't have the chemistry there. It happens.

here here Coutinho just played terribly had nothing to do with Valverde he missed a lot of clear chances in big games, especially in the 2nd leg against Liverpool, basically 1 on 1 with the keeper unacceptable for a player of his quality
@@rusty111fire Coutinho was doing very well until he got injured (if you remember), he lost the pace after that and felt into the negative spiral. Coutinho was bought to replace Iniesta (which left when Coutinho arrived and after La Roma debacle...) but Valverde had not trained Iniesta which knew what to do since he was there for years. How could Valverde teach Coutinho what was expected from him when he had nothing to do with it in the first place. Valverde failed with every new player, not just Coutinho. The only player that seemed to be successful with Valverde was Paulinho who was sold back to China. Vidal was bought to replace him. That is Valverde's style: the tough midfielder that pushes hard in the attacking phase to force a goal. And that worked for them, Paulinho used to score often and Vidal too, both being substitutes (Valverde's secret tactical twist).

His vision and passing amazingly combine with his technique. Vision is the most important ability for middfield players. For example Kante in Chelsea has also awesome vision combines with his tackling and marking, he senses dangers on middfield area before it occures. Coutinho has the same vision for attacking, Kante has for defending. These senses make them best players in middfield. If the team has talented and fast attacking wingers like Adama Traore, Zaha or Hazard, middfields with vision plays the best game with them.

There was never any doubts in Countinho's ability, for me he is World Class but there ware multiple concerns over Valverde's Tactics and Team Management skills at FC Barcelona . The Bundesliga is not a joke league and demands something different from him there than I think in La Liga. However In Germany teams run on some form of high octane FUEL!!!! and will definitely demand from a player. To a World Class player like Countinho, sometimes it seems effortless. In the end it may be that all a player needs is the trust from his teammates, a change in environment and coach that understands football. So yes.... GENIUS!

Some interesting comments here. A few observations about Coutinho. Whilst at Liverpool as far as I recall, under both Rodgers and Klopp, Coutinho didn't start every match, sometimes away from home he was on the bench, even during 2017 / 18 season when he left in January 2018. Klopp made him captain a couple of times to massage his ego. However, January 2018, and Liverpool defeats Man City 4:3. Ox Chamberlain scores one and assists one goal with Firminho. Again, against Man City in the Champions League, Ox has a big hand, scoring a plie driver from outside of the box. BY April 2018, Ox is part of the middle three plus Henderson, Millner and Wijnaldum vying for the third position. That was the blueprint for what we see now, the dynamism in midfield. Last season with Ox out, the midfield didn't create enough but now he's back in the team, the numbers from midfield in terms of goals and assists have gone up again. I assume that's why Klopp allowed the move in January, as he saw Ox could make a strong midfielder, good at pressing and good at defensive work and thus can always be used away from home, regardless of the opposition. So you have to say, that Liverpool in midfield and attack did get stronger after Coutinho left. Firminho is also a playmaker who could play the number 10 poistion if required. I also watched Coutinho closely during the 2018 world cup and I was left disappointed. He was deployed on the left of midfield but appeared ineffective and always had to use his right foot, which of course means he has to pivot a lot to get on his right foot, he hardly ever used his left foot to keep the ball moving with passes. That means he became a bit one dimensional and predictable if his initial tricks didn't come off making him easier to defend against. In this sequence the commentator is really talking him up and his vision which is good. These are just sniipets though, how involved is he at all times every 90 minutes? In other words, is he consistently at least 7 out of ten every game? Because in my opinion at Liverpool despite the flashes of genius, he was a little inconsistent over an extended period of time. Ironically, in early 2017 I had a discussion with a friend and we argued about who was more important to Liverpool Mane or Coutinho, I argued Mane was the more important player, this was long before I heard of any potential Barcelona transfer talk.

Although, I respect Coutinho as a player, and he did make some contributions at Bayern, more often than not, they seemed to occur most frequently when Bayern had the game pretty much in hand. Kovac preferred Coutinho over Mueller and tried to change Bayern's style of play. It was much less than successful as evidenced by the change in results once Hansi Flick took the reigns at Bayern. Mueller was back in and the team chemistry improved significantly. Mueller set a new season record for assists despite missing a lot of minutes while being benched by Kovac.
