In this video, I upgrade the Mercedes old headunit for an Android based one. Maintaining steering wheel controls, use of the factory amp and more! As well as giving me a reverse camera, Apple Carplay and way more functionality than the factory unit.

Lovely video! Can you do a video of your trunk? I just bought a combi(universal) but half my trunk is empty so I don’t know where to place things. My fire extinguisher just slides from one way to another. Also about the emergency wheel. Do you have it? I don’t have one and have no idea what to buy. Also the shock absorbers in your truck are they gas or hydraulic? I was told that they are hydraulic but were really expensive and that it would be better not to change them. The DPF of the car was sold, the cd changer and wheel and the electric pump and they pretty much fucked me over with this purchase as I have given 1000€ more than what they told me in repairs and now I even have to change the whole front suspension system… but the cart is pretty and really comfortable. It’s my first car and damn so expensive 😅 but I really wanted it haha Edit: does the back spitter work for you? Mine is not working and I don’t see any leaks. I shoved a needle in it but nothing happened
Is it still working ? And how much was it please … I’ve had someone in Australia give me a quote for this exact system including installation so I’m keen to know how much it cost you. Cheers

@@zerozerozero_0 I got mine and it works perfect but you end up losing some feature, dimming rearview mirror will not work, Change your slot won't work anymore(or as they call it secret compartment) , but I gotta tell you it gives you a whole new experience

Hey Jason, 2 quick ones. With the head unit, steering wheel controls etc is good, however, when I did mine I could not then change the clock in the dash. Can yours - might be worth an update if it can? 2nd. With the rear, the new air shocks, check the lines before doing a new shock, I did that and it ended up being a perished air line.
Thanks for the tip! Yes my friend and previous owner noted the workshop he used to fit the new bags did say to keep an eye on some of the air lines! I actually haven’t tried setting the clock via the wheel or anything yet, so that’s a good shout. I believe I can adjust the clock using the scan tool I reviewed recently (well, it was an hour out of whack and I turned on DST/BST and it changed time).
With this era of Mercedes the time is set in the HU which inturn changes the clock in the cluster so you might lose the function if you change the HU.
@@liamcinq what is HU? Also my was never changed but between the navi and the hub there are something like 5 hours difference when synchronising
@@va5307 HU = head unit or infotainment.
What if you own a W211 but not a digital OEM HU, I have the basic one with the CD and Radio functions only.

This is exactly what I'd like to put in my E Class ('54 plate). But I definitely do not have the skills (or time) to install. Do you do installs?...or Can you recommend anyone?

Heya! I am about to go throught the same deal and the seller product page says that I need the Optical decoder that costs 70 bucks, but I didnt see you get that or install it?
Mine had a loom that ran all the way to the boot but didn’t need the decoder if I recall correctly.
Thanks a bunch! You saved me 70 bucks. I just fitted mine yesterday. The main pain in the rear is running that thick harness from the back to the unit. Also, the unit supports carplay, you don't need to use any of those suspicious apps.

Does this installation bypass the factory amplifier?
I believe he connected using the optical interface, which does connect up to the factory (premium systems) amp. Factory sub control, however, is lost: my understanding is that it is fed all frequencies- maybe one can utilze a crossover to resolve? Fader functions, from what I've read, are also lost. I'm holding off on doing all this for these reasons: I'd prefer to do what Amazing Road TV did, but am unable to find an HU with true Line Out.
Is it possible to add an underseat subwoofer to that android system?
Pretty much any unit can feed an external amp for subs. Where you mount depends on space.

Do the steering wheel volume control buttons still work?
do you always need internet to use its functions? and if so, how do you get it?
You do not. But it connects via WiFi to a hotspot.
@@TyredFormat what works without internet? navigation and radio only? I'm asking mostly because I intend to get one but I definitely don't want to use hotspot all the time.
@@BewbathanMuffingss most of it works without. I used it for CarPlay, which is an extension of your phone screen anyway so your phone uses its own data there
