  • Zach has shown so much improvement this season its stunning. Against KC he looked as good as any QB in the game (except for the fumble which could happen to anyone). Considering the facts that he is often running for his life from unblocked defenders and that he has had what seems like an excessive number of dropped passes, he looks like a viable nfl qb. The players have seen these realities and seem to be solidly behind him and more fans are growing that way as well. Almost beating KC, beating philly for the first time, making some amazing throws are moving the needle in his favor and I think rightly so. if he continues this season's rate of improvement he will be very good, very soon.

O-line needs to give him a little more time. And the receivers need to stop dropping passes as they did in the Philly game. He has the talent…but what he does with it is up to him.

  • It is first year with real offensive coaching. The difference is huge. The issue has been Offensive line, receivers that can't separate, and lack of coaching. The coaching has been better. There are some pieces on offense, but it is still an offensive line, receivers not separating or running wrong routes, or dropping passes. Like yesterday. Add one big penalty. Garrett was hobbling. Other than that, the supporting cast has to do better, too.

  • He's already shown improvement in two areas: -Running forwards to pick up yardage when no one is open instead of just running around sideways and backwards until someone gets open -Ability to complete short, easy passes. Weird that he had so much trouble with it before, but it was like he thought he had to throw it as hard as he possibly could on short passes. He's gotten that down. He's certainly not good or Trevor Lawrence, and Hackett's conservative, predictable playcalling in some games and bad OL play have hurt him, but he's at least shown some growth

    @davet2459@davet24597 ай бұрын
  • I'm not under any illusions that Zach is taking us to the Super Bowl this year, but I'll say 2 things for him: 1) His accuracy is hugely improved this year. He was regularly missing short passes and even passes behind the LOS the last few years, and that basically isn't happening at all anymore. Maybe Hackett actually knows what he's doing. 2) The offensive line is still terrible, especially with Vera-Tucker and now Tippman out again. If Rodgers goes back out there again this season somehow, he's going to get destroyed again. Wilson seems to have been able to take the hits so far - he was sacked 5 times in the win over the Eagles and 4 times against the Broncos, and still won. Maybe it's just his youth, or maybe just luck that none of those hits were hard enough to really hurt him, but that resilience is going to be really important this season.

    • He has a real offensive coach and scheme for the first time in hit career, this is effectively his rookie year in a sense. He’d only played like 20 games coming into this season. Which is why the Jets brought in Rodgers, the idea being he’d sit behind a QB and develop. They were resetting the initial process, which they admit they failed. He still has the arm talent and his jump in a new system with a real coach is palpable. Rarely does a play have a chance to turn their career around with the team they initially flopped for. Not too get too far ahead of myself, still a lot of football left, but if he keeps developing at this pace he just might get that chance.

  • He’s showing significant improvement. Also, the stats with JR might be identical, it’s no question that coming out, Zach has the more talented arm. Zach issue has always been his decision making with ball security and read progression. His ball security has gotten significantly better. His 3 pick game against Dallas, every pick came in the final 10 minutes of the game, down 3 scores, trying to push the ball, and only one of the 3 picks was wildly off target. One he got hit while throwing, the other was tipped by the receiver. My biggest issue with the Zach Wilson hate, is where was this kid destined to be good with the tools he has been given? LaFleur was a first year OC with no experience developing a quarterback or calling plays with Kyle Shanahan the head coach in San Fran. The guy that was meant to be the veteran mind in the qb room passed away before he even took a snap in practice, and they never brought someone else in to help both him, and LaFleur. Also, LaFleur didn’t mold a system to highlight Wilson’s strength, he was very “you have to fit this system the way I need you to”, and had no clue how to make adjustments. We drafted Garrett Wilson and Breece, great, but who else do you have? Our offensive line? One of the dirt cheapest lines that has ranked bottom 5 in pass block win rate the last 2 years, and is second to last so far this year, with injuries decimating the already terrible group even more. Trevor Lawrence? He’s a good quarterback, yeah, his rookie year was a mess too. He threw for 3600, yeah, but watch the tape. Kid had twice as many turnovers bc he put the ball on the ground 3 times a game too. So what’d they do? Fored Urban Meyer. Brought in an offensive minded head coach who knew how to develop a qb. They went out and signed the right guys for him to target, gave him weapons, set up a decent line to protect him, and he broke out. It’s not all about Zach. The team needs to be set up for him to succeed too, and it vastly has not been. If it always just fell onto the shoulders of the quarterback, then Mahomes wouldn’t be having an awful season with no receivers or line.

Wilson had knee injuries in his first and second year. He missed training camp last year. He was the backup getting minimal reps this year. The national media made his mom the lead story over him being the second overall pick. Then his Ex airs their dirty laundry on social media - if a man did that to a woman, the guy would be destroyed! He’s played Belichick 5 times which accounts for most of his turnovers; most young QBs have similar experiences. • Previous years aside this is the first season he has a real offensive coach and scheme, this is effectively his rookie year in a sense. He’d only played like 20 games coming into this season. Which is why the Jets brought in Rodgers, the idea being he’d sit behind a QB and develop. They were resetting the initial process, which they admit they failed. He still has the arm talent and his jump in a new system with a real coach is palpable. Rarely does a player have a chance to turn their career around with the team they initially flopped for. Not to get too far ahead of myself, still a lot of football left, but if he keeps developing at this pace he just might get that chance.

Jets fans in NYC are more starved to win now; they’d trash any developing QB that don’t hit the ground running like Justin Herbert or Joe Burrow. Regarding Trevor Lawrence, the team and new HC in Peterson trusted him enough to allow him to throw the ball and work his way through his mistakes and INTs. • Here's what we know: Wilson first two years in the league were under Mike LaFleur, without a doubt one of the worst OC's in recent years and someone who should never be anywhere near young developing players. LaFleur had a habit of throwing young talented high draft picks under the bus rather than waste his precious time developing them if they weren't NFL ready right out of the gate. And it wasn't just Wilson that LaFleur ruined, it was also Denzel Mims, Elijah Moore and Mekhi Becton. LaFleur was a one man wrecking crew of the Jets youth movement. Wilson not only did not progress under LaFleur's "tutelage", he regressed in those two ugly years. And, of course, the Jets have been at the bottom of the league in protecting the quarterback since Wilson entered the league. Ranking at the bottom or close to it in QB pressures allowed. We all see what Jets pressure did to the likes of Allen, Mahomes and Hurts this year, but Jets analysts and fans don't seem to have the mental accuity to apply that to their own young, developing QB. And, of course, the less mobile Jets QBs have been maimed when they came in. Mike White forced to the sidelines by injuries twice in his four games and Aaron Rodgers after four snaps. Wilson has avoided the same fate by being agile and being able to run for his life, which he pretty much has had to do from first snap to last in every Jet game he has played. And, then there's the running game. Other than Breece Hall's individual brilliance breaking off a big one here and there, it is less than mediocre and can't be relied on to ever give Wilson anything better than a second and nine or third and seven. This has been a function of horrific offensive line and a pathetic OC who was incapable of scheming anything open. Not the ideal situations to having to pass from. The receivers don't get open. Certainly not in the miniscule time frame before Wilson is mauled. Even Garrett Wilson is more of a I'll make an unbelievable acrobatic catch while covered than a guy who gets consistently open. Finally, Nathaniel Hackett has been able to scheme to Wilson's strengths and against his weaknesses and it has shown with dramatic improvement over the past three games. Rollouts to buy some precious time, moving Wilson around in the pocket so he doesn't have to try to throw out of a silo (he's not tall), motion, scheming receivers open - all of these things are new for Wilson as LaFleur was not competent enough to scheme off of a pure vanilla, staid, remarkably predictable offense and it took Hackett a couple of weeks to adjust his offense off of Rodgers and onto Wilson. We know that Wilson has the physical skills to be a star. But we have no idea what his ceiling is because he's never had a fighting chance of an opportunity with everything stacked against him. Maybe he'll never be able to read NFL defenses properly. Maybe he's already started moving in that direction now that he actually has an opportunity. Maybe Rodgers will rub off on him. Maybe not. After two wasted years under LaFleur, the reset button has been hit. But if you blame Wilson's troubles on Wilson the last two years, then you are either an incompetent analyst or a lazy one because there has been an avalanche of factors working against Wilson.

I think the quarterback for San Francisco is out of the game completely due to injury. None of these young men are garbage. I think the problem is with fans, impatient, critical, with narrow vision and wanting instant gratification. There are no young men playing in he NFL that are garbage, most of them are highly skilled, motivated, dedicated and want very much to be the best they can be. The cumulative effect of constant pressure often makes QB play deteriorate -- it's the reason you often understudy QBs in the first place: if you throw Aaron Rodgers onto the field in his first year, you probably never get his SB level play for most of his career after his third year.
