Inside the colourful home of Max Hurd | Living with Style
Creative consultant Max Hurd had just one requirement when looking for his northwest London end-of-terrace: it needed to have space for the enormous painting from his childhood in Brazil that now stretches from the front door, all the way along the hall to the kitchen, where more recent memories line the walls. A portrait of his beloved Ivana, a recently deceased chihuahua who helped him “accept his queer identity”, takes pride of place, while artworks by his friends and photographs fill the back wall.
You won’t easily find anything practical here. Fairy-sized cocktail glasses and porcelain ladies of leisure with cocktail umbrellas are given preference over the hidden-from-view kettle and toaster so that everything on show is “pretty but pointless”, the mantra Max says sums up the house he shares with his male-model housemate.
Watch the video to visit the theatrical orange bedroom (the “most comfortable colour” for his eyes) and the loft room, originally pegged as a “sex room” but now used for after-dinner martinis and board games.

I love his dedication to surrounding himself with pieces created by, or given by, or inspired by, family and friends. He clearly has a good heart. He has made his love of the people who are important to him evident in every room of his home...and that is not something you see every day. Too many people are motivated by a sense of self. However, his home is virtually a shrine to his loved ones.

Max's home decor reminds me of a doll's house full of fun things. His home is so warm and cozy. I like the color scheme and his family pictures and mementos throughout. The library is my favorite room. Watching his cute fluffy cat run down and walk up the stairs made me smile.

Not trolling, not even slightly. I really love his house. However I was thinking as I watched that it's interesting how things that for a poor person would come across as, tacky and signs of poverty, if you are rich enough become "stylish". Brick a brack, mismatched colours and patterns, old foxed mirrors, lack of modern appliances etc, doodles and trinkets made by friends. I mean the plate with the fish and fork on it hanging on the wall. Personally I think is cute as heck, but also objectively, if you walked into a council house and someone said, oh yah my kid made that in school and I hung it up you wouldn't be saying "wow these people are design geniuses", you'd just think, oh, that's cute. And then if you saw a kitchen that looked like it's 150 years old you wouldn't think "gosh what a bold use of primitive style" you'd think they just couldn't afford to have a better kitchen. Once again, in no way saying that Max is doing anything wrong, or being rude, or hates poor people or anything of the sort. This video just made me think about the privilege of being rich where things that look cheap suddenly make you look richer rather than poor
Definitely. It's similar to that thing with clothes of "is it stylish or are they just rich and skinny". Normal people wouldn't get away with half the things rich folks wear.

i watch a lot of these short videos to get inspiration for my house but also because I like to see how people express their senses and personalities in their homes. But i am so in love with this home video. It s poetic, uniquely stylish, homely and so cozily joyful.
I'm absolutely obsessed with this house. So many ideas that I would love to execute in my own future house, albeit mixed with some slightly more modern furnishings and a different colour palette. But I love how awesome a home can be when designed with no shame and every detail in mind. Love love love it!

Love the quirkiness of the whole place. I especially love the drawing room with its dark pumpkin color and little art pieces, pottery, glassware and other stuff. Really love it. Love the sage living room and the candles. I think that nympho auntie should have her own frame and place on the wall. Love the art/rug on the staircase. Nice to look at instead of the usual wood. I like the orange color in your bedroom, and patterns on the wall but not I am not a fan of your comforter which looks like one of the many I've seen in my college dorm. Other than that, your home was really lovely and thank you so much for sharing it. You should consider a big orange or green comforter with patterns on it or just all white comforter with throw pillows.
