  • Yes. I own a Ariya in Canada and loved it. I spent t many nights doing my research and came out choosing it. The whole family have test drove a few EV and we all love the interior and exterior styling and features on it!! Ariya hands down!

  • Nissan Ariya for me. Hands down. It has a better interior. It has a quieter cabin. And imo, the Ariya is also better looking. So, even though the Nissan Ariya is more expensive, I will still choose it over BZ4X.

    • I agree with what you are saying... Only issue is I went onto the Nissan Web site and ended up with a £55k car, with the specification that I liked. OK that's my choice... But I didn't like the price.

    • For what both cars offer they are too expensive compared to cars with the E-GMP plattform and modern 800 Volts technology. But also there is a problem with both companies lead by old men who have still other agendas in mind. Nissan will be the first to fail or must partner with Chinese companies like former Partner Renault and of course Mitsubishi. They even are no more able to supply electronic parts for their top of the line GT-R costing 150‘000 CHF, fortunately a Hong Kong based startup could help but the car was out of service for over 6 months! Nissan is dead already and Toyota/Subaru had - as they said; ‚problems‘ with bolts to fix the wheels!? In fact, they have battery problems which drastically reduce range!😂😎

  • As an Ariya owner. I can say that it’s a fantastic car. At the moment I’m getting around 3.3 miles per kWh. So a smidge under 300 mile range from the 87kWh car. We have the 19” wheels. The 22kw on board is a must in my opinion. Opens up more charging options. I would agree on the ride. It can be a bit firm. But no worse than my old fiesta that was lowered 60mm when I was a teenager. It’s also better looking than most EVs in its class, although i admit that is subjective.

    • EVs were more efficent 10 years ago. They should be down to 12kWh/100km (189 countries use this measurement) or 5.2 miles per kWh by 2022.

    • @@waynehobbs5175 everyone wants SUVs and SUVs carry more margin for the OEM. So here we are with big, heavy, barn door shaped cars. Its no wonder kWh/100km hasn't gone anywhere. Actual battery/inverter/motor efficiency was already incredibly high, I don't really think there is much gain to be made there. Its purely down to the rest of the car... Aero, weight, rolling resistance etc.

  • We picked the top-end Ariya. It's amazing. Virtually all the other EVs are plastic jank and feel like overpriced rubbish. The Ariya is the single EV that has all the features and all the premium quality and interior of a 'proper' car. Am in love :)

  • Great comparison review! The Ariya just looks like the best looking electric SUV on the market in my eyes! It has the futuristic look like Kia EV6, beautiful and simple KIA/BMW-like interior design and looks as spacious as it gets with the moving console... the BZ4X looks like nah to me. I would happily spend that extra money for the feeling and looks of that top-end Ariya! Congrats to all that already did :)

  • I drove both on the same bumpy roads I have to say the Toyota way a bit smoother but the aryia is absolutely beautiful inside it feels like you are outside it's so roomy and with the moon roof it is wonderful. I've never was one to want a car but after driving it I absolutely love it.

  • Ordered my Ariya in September after test drive. Was instantly taken by it❤. Have a 18” leaf which has been perfect 👍 . Still waiting for delivery sometime in the next 4 months…..

    • you should have ordered Tesla Model Y long range - and would wait max 5 weeks in EU now :) plus there is a huge discount, so it's a no-brainer!

    • @@robertcowher I get that but when you look at value for money and technology / package you get in each option, it must be emotional rather than rational decision to prefer an electric Nissan over Tesla. Waiting time also plays a role but the most annoying thing for me is all the little 'extras' that you have to add to make it comparable to a 'default' Tesla Y, especially LR model. You have much better infrastructure in the U.S. to use tesla anyway it's good that there is competition and that there are people who pay a little more and wait longer just to help diversify the market.

    • ​@@paulz7716 It depends on what you consider the "extras". A default model Y doesn't give you basic things like a gauge cluster, normal door handles, physical buttons, etc. I get that Tesla likes to make everything they do different, but it feels like they've taken away a lot of what makes a car functional and comfortable to use. If you're just looking at power and range, Tesla wins hands-down. Being a car though, it's questionable.

  • I don’t get why people would option the 20 inch wheels on the Ariya. You lose 25 miles EPA range, get a little more road noise and intrusions into the cabin and don’t really look all that good (imo) vs the 19s with the aero covers.

    • I agree - the 19s on my Ariya Evolve with the Bridgestones (55 aspect) look very impressive,and are certainly more comfortable on our dreadful town roads than the 20s with a lower aspect.

  • In Norway there has been a couple of tests of the Toyota, and especially the range part of it was a complete disaster. With the climate on it can't reach more than about 318 km/197 mi (in eco mode), even in fairly mild autumn temperatures on dry roads. Never seen a car further away from the WLTP range, and all EV's up here are tested the same way. The net capacity on the battery is around 60 kWh, despite Toyotas claims. Imagine how useless it will be in freezing winter temperatures. The BZ4X is just mediocre in almost every way that matters, perhaps unless you're going offroading. Low on power, cannot tow any useful load, short range and feels very cheap on the inside. Nissan at least makes an effort, and comes out with a really good car that has proper specs. It also looks way better both inside and outside.

    • Few KZheadr has tested that car in Finland and with temperature around -3C max CCS speed was 51 kW.

  • We tested both Ariya and BZ4X before we saw this video, and completely agree with comments here. In 2024 the Ariya Advance with Sky pack is best VFM. We also tried Honda NY1(the salesman was not interested in selling EVs, just appalling), Jeep Avenger EV, Hyundai Ionia 5 and Kia EV6. I currently own a mid 2021 Tesla M3 long range Dual motor which we love, it probably just pips the Ariya. We ordered the Ariya for my wife to replace end of life 21 year old Honda Jazz, and in 3 years will go to one EV, we will either keep the Ariya or roll both into whatever is best spec then. Having driven an EV for 2 years I would confidently say the Ariya is well thought and a great car.

  • Ordered my Ariya on Sunday through a lease scheme with work. Went for the 225kW Advance with the Bose pack and kept the 19" wheels. Extremely excited but now to wait for a build date!

  • Ariya for me, I love Toyota and I’ve tried to buy it, but they always come short. Just picked up the Pathfinder over highlander because of towing and no V6 option. Will be getting this Ariya as well for my commuter. cheers.

  • I agree with your comments regarding wind/road noise on the Toyota, I took the Bz4X for a test drive and kept asking the salesman if the windows and doors were closed and if the tyre pressures were correct.

  • After driving the Ariya at the weekend wow! We already have a leaf and a Mercedes EQC and the leaf up until I drove the ariya was my fave EV, I’d get another Leaf if they’d sorted some battery cooling and CCS charging out on it! The Ariya is on my shortlist to replace the EQC now and unlike the model Y has the ride just spot on for UK crappy roads even with 20” it felt spot on ❤️ not cheap but they’ll sell bucket loads of them I predict!

    • Look for mega deals on leases and no worrying about any further depreciation. Less than £5k a year easily available atm, quarter ends have the best deals.

  • Hey there, I like your channel quite a lot. One quick not on the Nissan. I used to drive a Nissan Pulsar and wanted to switch to EV. Because the ongoing delay with the Arica, we pulled the trigger otherwise. Finally bought a Tesla M3 and my wife and my two little sons are very happy with it. Now, after a visit at my „old“ Nissan dealership. In fact, I can‘t sit upright in the Ariya, no matter how low the driver seat is. My head is literally in the roof. I‘m 6‘2“ thought, but common.😬 In our Tesla I‘m comfortable with still a lot leg room behind me. Just saying. You do a great job Electrifying. 🙏

    • That sounds weird. I am taller than that. I went from the M3 to the Ariya and I'm not looking back. I have no problem with head room in the Ariya. I don't even have the seat all way down and still about 5 cm left to the roof. When I was driving the M3 no one could sit comfortably behind me in the backseat. I barely fit in the back seat of the M3 either. In the Ariya there is plenty of room behind me and plenty of room for me to sit in the backseat too. One of the biggest improvements though, is road noise. The Ariya is one of the most quiet rides out there. While M3 is one of the most noisy. The only downside to the Ariya is the DC charging I think. It could be quicker. Hopefully fixed or improved in an update soon. Although, with the big battery I have DC charged about 2 times since I got it 5 months ago. 10 000 km driven.

    • @@ronnyherberger8485 you must have test driven an Ariya with the moon roof. I test drove one with the moon roof and my head hit the ceiling... same deal, 6'2 with a long torso. Bought one without the moon roof and have plenty of headroom.

    • @@mikadavies660 you don't have to buy the most expensive one if you can't afford it. I believe it starts at 42k??? At 42k you get alot or most of the features you would want. If you don't have th pockets then don't get all the extras simple. 10k down on a 42k dollar cat would bring you down to a very reasonable car payment or if you don't have any car payment down payment you could spend the extra 200 a month and also save probably 100 bucks a month in gas or more depending on how much you are driving and make uo the difference on no oil changes or brakes needing to be replaced at all because of the regen brakes. Overall it's should be close.

    • @@occckid123 Agreed... Your gas is still very cheap in America... Diesel is $10/gallon in UK...!! 42k for the Nissan may be OK on a reasonable American Salary... But salaries in the UK are also shite... They said McDonald's is $20/hr? Here in the UK McDonald's is just $10.50/hr!! That is the wage difference. So 42k car might as well be 80k allowing for the wage difference. I have leased an EV... As that is cheaper than buying

  • Interesting video with valid comments well made. I ordered a base spec Ariya back in May and am due to collect it in December (all being well). I'm disappointed with the 3-year warranty as it's poor compared to the likes of Kia and Hyundai - and the 10 years for the Toyota is off the scale! Nissan must do better on that front in future. However, even the base spec Ariya I'm getting has an excellent spec with lots of equipment as standard, so perhaps, all things considered, I'll pay the warranty extension in 3 years and not feel too unhappy about it.

    • Not sure how it is in the European countries but the 5 year 60K bumper to bumper Kia/Hyundai offers is just a 3/36K warranty with an extra 2 years and some miles protection on low cost parts like window switches door actuators etc, not major components like the infotainment safety sensors etc Edit: here is what I was talking about: Audio system: Like the battery, your speakers and entertainment system are covered for 3 years/36,000 miles. Entertainment system is REALLY important since that’s where 90% of the computers that run the car are located and control almost every major function in most cars

    • I would rather go for the Nissan before the Hyundai/Kia though. We both know how they treat clients, and not to mention the scandal destroying evidences even knowing that their cars were killing people. I also prefer to prefer the car inside, and not being constantly recommended to leave it outside.

  • Personally I like the looks of the Toyota exterior more than the Nissan. That said could be down to the colour, I like red. Nissan wins on interior hands down. Just wish when reviewers do back to back they'd have cars of the same colour as colour can change the total looks of a car.

  • Thanks for an interesting comparsion. Nicki, you said "nice syntetic leather seats" about the seats in the Ariya. Yes, they do have syntetic leather, but this particular test car you sat in, had blue nappa leather seats - in other words, real leather. My favorite is the Ariya with exact same blue/black colour and the blue nappa interior.

  • BZ4X all the way for me since I plan to keep it for well over a decade, nissan has very poor reliability, and this being full electric makes it even more risky. Toyota also has far higher resale due to most reliable brand in the world, its more dull vehicle compare to ariya no doubt about it, but its just more sensible and logical for the long run

  • I reviewed both electric cars in my channel, and I must say they are promising! I personally prefer the Nissan Ariya, it looks more appealing (reminds me of the Renault Espace inside). The Toyota BZ4X was not really interesting Greetings from Belgium!

  • Nissan Ariya’s exterior design is very classically futuristic, simple but it stands out from the rest of the other e-vehicles. Interior design is again a continuity of the exterior design. It’s very neat and yes it’s just simple but classical. It has been my top choice since I saw one on a Nissan dealership way back in 2019 and although the actual availability happened 2-3 years later. I have not had a chance to test drive one, but hopefully soon!

  • Here in New Zealand where the BYD Atto 3 60kWh is selling by the ship load I cannot see either of these being anywhere near the value or availability. I own a BYD Atto 3, MG ZS EV, a Model 3 and Model X and the BYD is the best EV for the money.

  • Ive test driven both, my emotional response having driven both was that I felt i would be getting second best if I bought the BZ4X, tand I did originally order one as it was a lot cheaper, until I found out that the wheels fall off, which Toyota UK nor the dealership told me, I had to find out during my research into why delivery was taking so long. Ive now bought an ARYIA.

    • @@Joe-ud2hb hello, I have the 87kw Evolve. Range is dependent upon many factors, as with ICE cars. The range has varied from around 220 to around 315. Biggest factor for range is the weather temperature but driving style etc of course also has an impact. Hope this helps.

Supposed to test drive a tesla MY tmrw just to see for myself, with price drop standard one now 49k ish...

  • Once you see that windscreen heating wires you can't unseen them. Another thing you cant see is anything in the back as you don't have a rear camera washer.

  • The benchmark is the Ioniq 5. Both these Cars lack so much it's shameful. Ioniq 5 has styling, cooled seats, sliding back seat, opening and sliding Glovebox, front trunk. Pop-up door handles, 10yrs Battery warranty and so much more at the same price. I expected much much more from these Japanese Aut😖

  • I have driven a Nissan Ariya prototype and it’s just great. What a car! (We drive a Nissan Leaf 2018 now) That being said, I like Toyota over Nissan. The brand just offers more ’customer security’, and if u are driving this kind of budget I would take the 10 years warrenty together with Toyota's strong service. Also, I got some inside info that the Ariya would not offer bidirectional charging and the BZ4X will. Weird, I know, since the Leaf does offer it since the beginning... I’m going to test the BZ4X and compare the most important things for me being the interior, the boot space and autonomy. But when the bidirectional charging will never be supported the Nissan is just not an option.

  • I choose the Ariya and dont regret it after getting all the specs. Ordered Ariya the first day it was possible here in Norway. At the time there was no info about the BZ4X, but 22kwh ac charging in the Ariya and it can take 1500kg trailer in 4wd version instead of 750kg in the BZ4X sold it for me. Also, i owned a Leaf for 4 years and it was fantastic, so, the Ariya won it for me. But! If you need a more of an off-road car then I would have chosen the BZ4X, or infact SolTerra, it has a 4wd from Subaru after all.

    • @Mr. Wizeguy I actually tested the BZ4X today. The consumption number wasn't that high in my test drive. I have Volvo C40 right now until the Ariya arrives, and that one is thirsty at wintertime! It was -8° c when I was driving it. But. I'm still glad I chose Ariya.

    • @@EggertOlafs Well i have seen it tested here in Finland by KZheadrs and consumption was between 25 - 30 kW/100km sometimes even higher when temperature was around - 5'C. Also he used CCS charger and got only 51 kW max when SOC was 25%.

    • ​@@EggertOlafs I have had the Ariya since november 2022. Top spec fwd with 19" winter wheels. Average consumption in February in Sweden over 1820 km is 2,1 wh/km. Pretty good. Mixed driving conditions and speeds.

  • Have Ariya 63 kWh for 3 weeks now (Ireland) advanced version, it is making massive impression on myself, family and other people, space, silence, quality, comfort, Toyota for sure lost the touch of comfort many years ago unfortunately. Two think i miss from Nissan LEAF, previouce EV. 1. E-Pedal does not provide full stop as it was on LEAF (big dissapointmet) 2. Ariya won't stay on driving mode selected after powering ON (goes to "Standard Mode") 3. Heated steering wheel won't stay ON on manual settings after car power ON. 4. You need to keep increasing set temperature in auto mode to turn on heated seats and heated steering wheel which is annoying, I prefer lower cabin temperature and warm seats and steering wheel.

Nissan changed this behavior because some people were having accidents due to letting the car stop with e-Pedal the last few meters without the eyes on the road and on those last meters bad things happening, so to stop the car completely now it's needed to depress the brake pedal to "force" the driver to look at the road until the car is completely stopped. Yes, it's the driver's fault and it's a shame that Nissan has made this decision, but also I understand why they did at the same time. 3. You can set to AUTO the heated steering wheel if I remember well.

    • @@Cosmycal you’d think the auto collision detection and automatic emergency braking features would all the one-pedal driving to be fully implemented safely. I know the E-GMP vehicles from Hyundai group switch off one pedal driving each time the car is switched off for a similar reason- forces the driver to explicitly determine one pedal driving rather than assume it may still be on.

  • The Ariya hands down, Toyota have been very very reluctant about joining the full EV game and very vocal that they don't belive in EV's I think it's clear to see the BZ4X is very much ab after thought car for Toyota. I fear they will not be as reliable as other Toyota brands or as reliable as Toyota thinks it will be 10yr warranty or not. I think you can see and hear the price difference. Would be interesting to see the Toyota go against its rivals in price rather than size or class? I think some smaller EVs might even give it a run for ots money in quality interiors etc.

    • @@jamesmccormack3229 I mention the concept because it shows what Toyota is working on and some of this tech will go to upcoming models. The car will come out in that body style, at least that's what those knowledgable about Toyota are strongly hinting. It will just have a different, more production interior that's more like the bZ3 in China or the Prius. And I totally disagree about "doesn't want to go full electric."The Mirai is electric. It's not battery electric but it is an EV. Toyota doesn't love the current cost/state of BEVs. But that doesn't mean they won't go BEV or that they aren't working on BEV vehicles. But yes, they do like FCEVs more and that makes sense for a Japanese company where Japan doesn't have a lot of resources. I think the bZ3 and the concept SUV along with the Prius in some ways show the direction Toyota is going in with future cars. I wouldn't look for outstanding range but I would look for refinement and improving some car functions while having good-enough range and performance. I'd argue to expect Toyota to be Toyota, not Hyundai or Tesla or anyone else.

    • @@benjaminsmith2287 I agree with a lot of what you are saying, I think that their concept models will look the same or very similar when hitting production. The shape is not what I think is letting them down at the moment its their interiors and the lack of detail that Toyota in history has always been known for. Toyota as a company works to high standard ensuring their vehicles are known for reliability, affordable quality and durability. I personally feel (cause that's all this is, it's my opnion) having owned many Toyotas that this current BEV approach by them is not to the same standard as they normally would work to. Or the same standard as they have dedicated to the hybrids and hydrogen models that's all. As for disagreeing with their reluctantly to join the BEV market I am only quoting their CEO, so its them that have said they have reluctantly developed BEVs due to demand not due to desire. I agree for the Japanese market the other types of EV do make a a lot of sense as you pointed out. However they are the biggest manufacturers in the world at the moment and are not souly reliant on the Japanese market, no matter how big a percentage it is for them. Nissan and other are Japanese brands are working to be BEV driven while developing other types of EV for other markets same as other Japanese and non Japanese EV developing brands such as you stated Kia/Hyundai, Nio, BYD, Li Auto, X peng and Geely, just to think of a quick few. All if which seem to have higher quality interiors and possibly exteriors for similar money. Like I said I am a Toyota fan and I look forward to them developing more reliable better quality BEVs as they move forward, as yous said we should expect Toyota to be Toyota and not to be other brands, that is what I expected and the quality of the interior and materials used to develop this Bz model is not the quality and expected ( I hope I am proven wrong, howver just like many brands this model already has had quilts issues, and that is unusual for Toyota) . I do really value what your are stating and I may be have been too quick on this, I can't wait to see what they develop and bring next.

  • I like my "dodgy wheel nuts" to remain on my vehicle so for that reason I would pick the Ariya. Also the BZ4X doesn't have a glove box and interior looks cheaper, and has a poor charge curve and range. Not sure how you concluded that the Toyota is more efficient because Bjorn and Out of spec reviews concluded the Ariya was more efficient.

  • The real usable battery size on the bz4x is around 60kw as the battery is 71.4kw gross so real world range of the FWD BZ4X is 200 miles.

  • I have the feeling the Toyota felt a bit more solid and stable on the road. I wish Toyota gave the bZ4X an interior more like the new Prius than what they did in the bZ4. The Ariya seems like the nicer car, the interior looks nicer but in some ways, not as adventurous as the bZ4X, or as quirky, maybe? All in all, I think people drone on too much about range and tech and forget that people are still buying cars when they buy EVs. How they ride and drive and feel and how much service and reputation for service and reliability they have weighs a lot in why someone will pick a car over another, not always range or interface tech. You're still buying a car.

  • Welp… I guess I'd take the Ariya over the Bz4X, but… I don't think either of them can come close to what the Ioniq 5 offers. I once owned a 2012 LEAF, which I loved, but one would think that, as the first OEM to produce an EV, Nissan would now go all out to leapfrog all the competitors. Guess not.

Close call but even though in the early days i stated that the Ariya was going to be very hard to beat, i think the BZ4X just gets my vote, Toyota's record and now 10 year guarantee is pretty awesome. I also think that 10 year Guarantee will allay fears of going electric. Best review you've done together, just brilliant.

    • They will be sitting at dealers for a long time. From what I've read Toyota and Subaru ( the cars are sister cars ) are unhappy with their first EV effort that arrived with Chinese assistance. The Nissan is far too expensive as well

  • The Toyota password is hideous. If this is representative of where Toyota is going with EVs then they are in big trouble. The Ariya is OK but I am fast going off the big SUV look, and the 3 year warranty is very off putting. I don't think either of them can hold a candle to the Korean offerings.

  • Maybe need to add actual charging time at a rapid charger to properly test the rapid charging as the Toyota will not get anywhere near it's claimed figures that's if you manage to get to the charger without the wheels falling off!

    • Maybe have a look at Toyota owner forums?! Plenty of owners are reporting circa 10% to 80% in around 25 minutes. The USA AWD models have a different battery. P.S the wheels never fell of, that's what the recall was designed to do!

    • Those tests were flawed as the car hadn't received the required software updates. Toyota UK are doing those updates prior to giving the car to customers.

    • The current buffer at 0% is 8.2% of the battery - this is being reduced to around 5%. This equates to around a usable capacity of 66 kW.

  • Nissan is advertising net and Toyota/Subaru is advertising gross battery capacity, unfortunately. Toyota has not published what the net capacity is, and the WLTP figures seems a bit high compared to tests results archived by Elbil24, Motor and Nybiltester here in Norway. I really hope Toyota/Subaru can improve real world range through software updates, right now it doesn’t seem like the WLTP combined result is easy to reach on the road.

  • I’d go for the Ariya… a much better-sorted, premium feeling car. The Toyota interior is poor and cheap looking, though admittedly that potential 10-year warranty will win it sales! Ultimately, though, both these cars are not likely to figure in say top5 in category. None of these would for example divert my attentions away from Kia’s Niro!

    • Not in motion they don't. The appointments are more premium. The feel of the cars in motion aren't. Try a Rogue vs. a RAV 4 over bumpy roads and you'll feel the difference. The Rogue is solid and good. The RAV 4 is more solid and very good.

  • Nobody mentions the small glove boxes under each front seat of the Toyota. It also did well on the four-wheel-drive test. Which is a big plus for me living in northern Indiana on the border of Michigan. So that’s probably why I tend to favor the Toyota. 🙂

  • Arya is a hands down winner here. BZ4X is out of the window for any climate that gets +10c or lower degrees centigrade. Charging speeds are horrendous and the battery pack is net 62kw instead of their claim of over 74kw. Consumption is on the high side compared to every car in the size segment and driving range is bad with the combination of a small net battery + high consumption.

  • I believe Toyota are saying 90% SOH remaining at 10 years as well aren't they? Most others are only saying 70% at 8 years.

  • So how long did it take to charge from 0-100% on the BZ4X on a DC fast charger(150kW+)? Hopefully you were VERY patient when you did that test or went and watched Ben Hur or Lawrence of Arabia or maybe the directors cut of Lord of the Rings.

  • Both feel lackluster. At least the Nissan has a nice interior unlike the Toyota. Neither hold a candle to the Korean alternatives for performance/charging, these two cars are abysmal in this regard in 2022/2023

  • if i cant see my own dashboard...nothing is changing. toyota has been insanely hesitant to trailblaze with EVs and it shows how far behind they have fallen. i do not expect them to make anything noteworthy until maybe the 3-4th iteration. it has taken ALL car companies at LEAST that many generations before making a well rounded vehicle. and we arent even discussing charging possibilities.

  • I would get the Tesla Y over either of these two. Tesla is AWD, has awesome supercharger network and continuous improvements via OTA updates.

    • Until those software OTA updates disable your radar and ultrasonics. Or change your screen so you can’t read it easily.
