  • Akane is the happiest drummer on Earth...and so impressive to other Rock legends that, when Jimmy Page saw them perform 7 years ago, he went backstage to get a selfie with her. But then she is the band leader for THE best Hard Rock band on Earth. Try their fastest song, BLACK HOLE, where Akane is on full throttle throughout, especially on the 220BPM outro, which she called "Hell".

  • Akane is amazing: she's having fun, she makes it look easy and she's playing a lyrical solo, not showing off chops. They way she uses her drums to serve the music at every moment is part of what makes Band-Maid such a potent band.

    • The studio live version of "From now on" is also instrumental and mental. It really shows off their skills. Also, if you want to hear bass there are some treats. The new live version of Hate is one option. Another one is set of two songs live "Manners" and "Black Hole". Groovier song than Manners you cannot find. It is 70% bass.

  • Great reaction and you've discovered the reason that Akane is so loved by the fans (maidiacs), she's an excellent drummer that always creates her drum parts to fit the song and then plays with the biggest smile you'll ever see on a drummer. Thanks for continuing to react to Band-Maid.

  • MIsa, though a shy person, is a 'lead' bassist and is very much front and center in a big portion of their music. She often brings a 'funk' sound but it's always deep, rich, and melodic! She and Akane (drummer) usually steal the show for me....awesome rhythm section!! Miku is a great singer in her own right and just incredible as a backup....and as the founder of the band, wise enough to realize that her voice wasn't strong enough to be the lead for the kind of music they wanted to create!! Glad to see them growing on you....great band with a very loyal following!!🤘

  • Akane is a fairly rare thing - what I call a musical drummer, which shows in everything she plays. Her drumming is clever, and always supports the song, without being repetitious . Never the same fill twice in each repetition of the verse and chorus. Too many drum solos are all flash, and a complex show of technique that only other drummers really understand, and she does very little of that. I'm not a drummer, but I did figure out the flashy bit at the beginning after listening attentively a few times. Then she sets into a pattern that 'normal' people can understand, with a straightforward figure that everybody can follow, with different fills in between each repetition of the basic phrase.

  • For me, two factors stick out. They have a wide range of styles. Every version of rock, pop, punk, hard, metal, emo, power ballad, blues, jazzy. And they do them all at a high level. Over 110 songs in their catalog, and IMO, not a stinker in the lot. I would say at least half are simply excellent. They have a 2 song in 1 video that demonstrates these two points. They are Manners, and Black Hole.

  • Akane and her drum tech somehow manage to set up her kit about as perfectly as possible, it always sounds incredible. I'd love to know why Akane chokes up on her left stick, I know she's adjusted her positioning and posture for a couple of reasons - to improve her double pedal work and also to reduce back strain as she did have a a back issue some years ago resulting in them having to get a replacement drummer for at least 1 show.

    • I saw someone say her left hand grip was "just wrong". I just laughed! I have no idea why she does it, but it works for her, and it works for us. My guess is it's just a comfy position for her. Have you seen the documentary of Yokahama Arena? Akane sits behind the kit during set up. The drum tech says 'try the kick'. Akane does one single kick: "BOOM". It sounded friggin awesome in the arena! The look of absolute glee on her face! Yeah man, whoever that drum tech is, he is worth his weight in gold!

The reason she is The Barefoot Assassin is that she sneaks up and murders you with the sickest baselines and that effortlessly switch between slapping and picking. There is a video somewhere of her tapping the base like Mincho does. Sub earned off your Band Miad reactions. Hope you continue down thier rabbit hole and become a Maidiac as well. • This is just a fun song. The band is full of smiles, Akane is laughing as she plays. It is happy rock music. Oh yes, you should definitely try "Manners/Black Hole". "Manners" starts with a drum, then drum and bass intro -- and has lots of bass. The song is funky, groovy. Then "Black Hole" -- their fastest, most chaotic prog rock song. Akane wrote several alternative drum parts, and called the hardest one "Hell". The band voted for "Hell" so she had to practise until she could play it. It hits 220 bpm -- and her fastest speed before practising for "Black Hole" had been 190 bpm. She worked hard, and hit the mark. "Black Hole" is chaos -- intense, fast, and discordant at times. They performed these two at an online concert during Covid lockdown when they couldn't tour and the Japanese government was subsidising bands who produced at least five minute long videos. Band-Maid songs are shorter than five minutes, so they had to make this a double feature to qualify for assistance.

  • I have seen them live and they really are that good, almost amazing because they do very long concerts, 22+ songs, with Miku doing some comedy in the middle. Misa, watch her bass play, that switching from pick to slap instantly by tucking the pick if unreal. The lead guitarist write all of this music at least since around this Domination album and a bit before. Newer great songs would be the Manners and Blackhole live(live streamed concert), Influencer is another great one, songs from around the same time as freedom would be moratorium, rinne and Play, older songs like blooming are also great, They actually dont have bad songs at all. Misa doing some awesome bass in No God, They have awsome instrumentals like onset and without holding back, which has a hilarious video with Herman Li , Miku and Kanami, Herman put on a maid uniform to audition and the three of them did Without Holding back, The ladies playing their guitar parts and herman adding in his dragonforce style. Hilarous. And a gem, they did a live stream christmas concert, not as maids, all acoustic versions of 14 of their songs, one song even has Akane on a cajon instead of her kit. It really takes some solid talent to take hard rock songs and do them acoustic. I am sure many have said it but this band really is one of the most talented group of musicians on the planet, certainly up with the best of the best, especially because they can play it all live.

Her accent often means that English words sometimes are missed “Domination” and “Freedom” are two songs from the same lane of their musical travels. Straight rock with uplifting chorus, Akane giving her disco beat a go in “Freedom.” She chokes up on the left more than the right in this song. I’m hoping to meet her someday and ask “why?!” As a musician who has played with many drummers, here are the songs you will probably find most interesting. (And a hint as to why) “DICE” (hi-hat shenanigans) “Onset” (4/4, 5/4, clever fills) “Warning,” (8 measure fill) “From Now On” (brace yourself)

  • What you don't want to do is challenge madiacs like if you get 250 likes on the song then you'll do three more. They will descend on you in droves

  • As for the drummer, Akane holding the drumsticks high is probably more of an accident or reason than her technique. I noticed it too when I watched that video, but I didn't see her do it in later ones. Maybe she felt she was not fast enough in her hands at the time? Which she certainly is today. Perhaps someone here knows the _true story_ about this? If so, feel free to tell me.

  • I was waiting that you say, and she’s happy. I’m sick of this cliché repeated all the time. So, kudos to you for focusing on tech part but not on her facial expression.

  • Band Maid have a lot of English words in their lyrics. Saiki's accent makes them hard to discern though. I love them because of this, as it makes them who they are along with their incredible instrumental talents

  • “My way” and “go away” were in English. I know it’s hard to tell sometimes when they’re singing in English! lol! Domination and Freedom are the usual starting points for new Maidiacs! Along with the music video that saved them. Thrill. After that you’ll have truly jumped down the pigeon hole! Po!
