  • I am a nature photographer, I love landscapes, wildlife, macro wildlife, and portraits. I am not a professional, just a love for photography. I don't know if there is a name for a photographer that dabbles in more then one subject. I think it's fun to like more then one type of photography. It gives you lots of opportunities if that's what you enjoy.

  • As always, great stuff. To your questions: I find the sun distracting, I also find it is visible that the image is a time blend. And yes, like you, nature - both landscape and wildlife, but more landscape.

    • Great feedback!! I enjoy the creative aspects in the field and the post processing to depiction of what I saw, felt, or dreamed up after the moment is gone. With that, I question my direction and final outcome wondering if I over complicated or pushed the narrative on the story I wanted to share in a negative or less pleasing way. Not everyone is going to see the same thing and as a creator, you might never know unless you ask for feedback so thank you. More landscape, nice! I think my next episode is all landscape.

  • Nature photographer is a good term. I generally refer to myself as an outdoor photographer, which encompasses wildlife, landscape, and more. I'll shot just about anything though if it peaks my interest. As for Photo Pills, I got it a couple years ago and still haven't taken time to figure out how to use it. I know that I need to. Maybe that should be a goal for this year.

    @craigpiferphotography@craigpiferphotography4 ай бұрын
  • I try to shoot a variety of subjects. Wildlife, landscape, intimate landscape, macro. I find that by shooting a variety I can almost always find something. I have Photo Pills, Photographers Ephemeris, and recently got Polar Pro’s app called Flare - it’s one part weather app, one part planner - sun angles for example, and one part place to list what gear you have. I still need some time with it. Thank you for sharing.

  • Stellar images! Thanks for the high quality videos and the high quality education in 2023. I can personally say that I have learned alot from watching your videos. Looking forward to more of your content in 2024. To answer your questions from the video, 1) the I dont find the sun distracting because i personally like seeing the light source. 2) I dabble in both landscape and wildlife but am notorious for being in the right place with the wrong lens.

  • Outstanding collection of images Matt...congrats on 15K, that number is going to go up a lot. The cabin shot, I feel like the sun should be a distraction but it works here...balances the pic somehow, and gives the image some added interest.

  • Great shots! I would not have noticed the sun if you had not mentioned it. Usually black and white don’t work for me but you hit it just right. I am a landscape photographer. I encounter deer mostly but I have a limited range. Southwest Ohio is not a wildlife hotbed. We seeing eagles return to the area. It is difficult for me to do much else with my camera. I have a Canon 5DS R and cannot shoot handheld. It’s too big to carry around my neck, hard to hold still or follow a bird in flight. Thanks for the great content. I look forward to following you this year.

  • What a great year of viewing, thrilling shots, inspiring scenes and more. Thanks for the hard work of taking the time to produce these sessions. I don't think the sun distracts from the cabin being the first thing you are drawn to. It is a shot that that draws you in and it is like you are standing there, you just have to take in everything that makes that cabin and its surroundings a place you would love to be forever. I learned a lot, but I really appreciate the tips on bird photography. I typically have avoided higher ISO, but now I see the benefit. I also need to remember that my Nikon cameras have continuous shooting! I just get too excited and forget my options. Have a great adventurous 2024!

    • Thank you so much for your thoughtful and encouraging words! I'm thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the year's captures and found the scenes inspiring. Your appreciation for the cabin shot means a lot, and I'm glad it drew you in as intended. Seems like others are saying the same thing. Yes! Great to hear the bird photography tips helpful. Embracing higher ISO and utilizing continuous shooting on your Nikon cameras can indeed open up new possibilities. It's easy to get caught up in the excitement of the moment! Wishing you an adventurous and fulfilling 2024 as well. Looking forward to sharing more photographic journeys!

  • Hi Matt, you had an outstanding 2023 with some super images and video footage. It is great that we have a fellow Vancouver Island photographer that has become so popular on KZhead. Congratulations on reaching 15K subscribers. I have really enjoyed your videos and they have inspired me to start taking more landscape and macro images, I kept my D850 and some older Nikon lenses so they will become my landscape kit. I am also going to start doing a little video work this year. I also upgraded my Z9 to the new firmware and like you I found it fantastic when I went to photograph the Short Eared Owls. I got some of my best shots of the year. Keep up the great content for 2024 and thanks for sharing your experiences and tips to help us become better photographers. Happy New Year to you and your family!!

    • Thank you Keith for your heartfelt message and warm wishes! That means a lot. It's fantastic to hear that my videos have inspired you to explore landscape and macro photography. Like you, my D850 is my landscape go-to camera in a kit. When I'm not using it, my wife is, so it gets a workout still. So great to hear that the new firmware helped you out with the short-eared owls. I've been so impressed with Nikon's improvements. I hear rumours of another update.... Wishing you a Happy New Year as well! Here's to more adventures, stunning shots, and shared passion for photography. Cheers! 📷✨🎉

  • Hey Matt. Found your channel a couple of weeks ago and am now happy to say I'm one of your new 15,000 subscribers. Loved every image here...hard to pick a favorite but a joy to try! As a kid back in 1976 I read a book called "Meet My Psychiatrist" by nature photographer Les Blacklock and knew then that I wanted to be a "nature photographer." Been my hobby for going on 44 years now. Love macro/intimate landscapes with some wildlife and traditional landscape photography. Happy New Year and looking forward to the upcoming notifications from your channel!

  • I shoot with the z50 and since you are a nature photographer, I was wondering what your favorite telephoto macro and wide angle lens to shoot are? Currently I don’t have anything too crazy good as I just got into photography a month and a half ago, so I only have the NIKKOR 50-250mm and the DX 12-28mm power zoom lens

  • I think the sunlight at Emerald Lake probably isn't overly distracting to most, but since that's not actual sunlight, why add it? Having shot that a few times, I obviously know the sun is never there to the North.
