Tekken 4 had the best story by a wide margin
It is a shame that the Tekken 4 writers did not return to the series cause there was so much effort put into the stories back then compared to now.
This was the best tekken. Blows my mind how people disagree!
@@Curt-iy7ck Exactly not just in terms of Story but Visuals and Soundtrack.
why was the writers change?
@@Windows11Sucks I wish I knew...
@@Windows11Sucks writer didnt "change" T4 was actually the only Tekken where they hired pro writers to work on the story, from Mr Harada And according to his "data" ppl prefered the mix goofy and serious of T5 with cgi ending instead of the game engine itself ( im not coinvinced personnaly cgi ending are great ofc but doesnt mean you can't do a real one with the backup of a good story, T4 best overall atosmphere imo )
Tekken 4 is the best. Namco was trying to move the franchise forward but hardcore players disapproved. The issues that this game has would've been fixed with a patch if it was released in modern times. Now each installment is a mere upgrade of Tekken 5.
They very carefully reintroduced aspects of Tekken 4's collision system (floor breaks, balcony breaks, wall breaks) entry-by-entry.
best in the series and the music is the masterpiece ✌😍😍😍 especially authentic sky the building stage music that's amazing
@King of Iron Fist I'm not arguing directly. They're right. But I get the sense that whoever's left on the dev team has some lingering affection for Tekken 4. I wouldn't use the term upgrade, but the sequels so far have iterated off Tekken 5 DR. Core design principals and character concepts were cemented there. But those every minor iteration (Juggle length, incl. bound/spin, wall breaks, T7's last round music, and new costumes, more urban aesthetic focus) looks like a longing attempt to recapture the inspired flame of T4, in some way, whilst maintaining the stable core of 5DR. Problem is, it's no longer 2001. T4's charm was the heart and soul poured into it, and that's been fading ever since T5.
I was a hard-core player that did approve. Its actually the casuals and e-sports enthusiasts that ruined tekken
You cant fix the assimetric stages killing any competitive value on the game, or the intentional slow framerate that dosent belong to the Tekken style of fast pacing flashy battles. It's a A+ game regarding aesthetics, atmosphere and story. But the actual gameplay was just bad. Namco just need to make a game mixing Tekken 5 gameplay with these elements from Tekken 4 and it would make the ultimate Tekken 4
"Smooth, charismatic & flexible" yeah sounds like Steve got all Anna's traits kappa
He definitely got it from Anna 😂😂
And people still think NRS invented the story mode in fighting games.
WRONG, JAREK. THIS ISN'T A BRUTALITY. THIS IS A FATALITY.
To be fair, SNK did it as early as 1991 in Fatal Fury.
This game has the greatest aesthetic of any game
Eloquently spoken and right on the nose. I hope the devs use this game as inspiration for how to do story and atmosphere the right way come Tekken 8.
Tekken 8 will most like be another Tekken 5.8. All the Tekkens after Tekken 5 is mere an extension of the same Tekken 5 Format. Unless Namco gets bold and ballsy like they were once when Tekkn 4 came out. to create such a different fighting format after the awesome success of Tekken 3 is a creative bold move. However, They haven't been so daring in terms of changes after the success of Tekken 5.
On numerical terms, Tekken 8 might fit as an atmospheric successor to Tekken 4, if Bamco can do it right and they don't slowly turn the game into having Otaku-filled characters (most notably Lucky Chloe). Kuma and Panda has potential to be relevant to the atmosphere, as they're both trained under Heihachi's guide that there might be a sinister reason why they're highly intelligent just like Roger.
@@vinrup9568 Hey like u said after Tekken 3's success they got ballsy. Tekken 7 is also a success so history may repeat itself
they will not sadly lol
@@tyranmcgrath6871 Tekken 3 itself was a ballsy move. Replacing old characters with successors was quite new for a fighting game at that time.
Tekken 4 nailed that early 2000's aesthetic and atmosphere
i love people viewing fighting games not through the "how competitive is it?" angle, but instead trying to find, for lack of a better term as of typing this, a vibe with it all, just everything kinda, fitting together perfectly. The SF3 series of games did this, in my eyes, as well as a few of the older king of fighters games.
Tekken 4 is the best game in the entire franchise. It had the best story. Especially Kazuya's story was profound, him getting rid of Devil but absorbing all of his powers by discovering a mental technique and taking advantage of Devil being distracted. Also, the scientific view of the Devil gene vs. the mystic view of being possessed by a Devil, both views are explored at the same time. Did Kazuya and Devil have internal dialogues in other Tekken games besides in Tekken 4? I think not. It had the best essential characters (no filler characters), the most realistically proportioned looking characters (not unrealistically overdone) and backgrounds, a great force mode, great music. It was the absolute pinnacle of the series, an overall height never reached again by its successors.
What are filler characters? And how are the t4 cast not fillers?
Competitive wise against another person it was pretty bad and junky. But single player was great and interesting
11:22 C'mon, what are you talking about, man? That's the best part of the whole package: - A wholesome and healthy rivalry between series protagonist and rival - Chiba speaking english with his full japanese accent - Hwoarang's cheesy English voice acting (on a serious note, they should've just had Jin and Hwoarang speaking in japanese with Chiba and Morikawa) - The funny as all hell military firing a rocket at the car behind which the two fighters were taking cover - Hwoarang's "Kazama... Remember, I kicked your ass back there" - Jin SMILING at Hwoarang's challenge
Did you know that the writing in this rivalry is just *so frickin good* it established the gay ship between them? And that was the only time Jin had a semblance of emotion before they decided to make him a full-blown edgelord in later game😢 It shows that as much of a lava-proof demon Jin might have become, he’s as “human” as everyone else.
@@sonicanvaspost6867 yes Plus, it's a rivalry that was hinted at with Hwoarang's ending in Tekken 3 and culminated in Tekken 5's ending with Devil Jin blowing up Hwoarang's bike Now Jin and the Mishima plotline are far too important to develop any other thread
@@Pol74698 hey, let’s not forget that in Tekken6, Hwoarang leads an army of Resistance just for the sake to overthrow the Mishima Zaibatsu. In which it culminates to that meeting in Tekken 7. Man could have ditched Jin, but still choose to save his life anyway. He still holds a plot relevance despite the fact that Lars was the guy who came to the rescue for Jin in Story Mode(Lars is just so frickin dumb, Alisa’s back hurts from carrying all the emotional weight) If he ever showed up again in Tekken8, I can see that he would *literally* wear the scars with pride.
every time i go to an airport that airport theme plays in my mind 😐
The best Tekken 4 analogy I've seen so far. It makes me sad that we probably wont have another game like this in the series. They could have done so much with the story after Tekken 4. I wish they reebot the story in the future
I loved this game. I knew for some reasons at the time that it was worse in some ways than Tekken Tag, but it had such good atmosphere, music, story, the characters truly felt like characters, they had voices. Both Pauls ending, and Bryans ending are some of my most nostalgic and memorable moments for how a videogame made me feel. (We dont talk about them after Tekken 4). I loved that Jin became his own person separate from the evil of the Mishimas. I love the unique idea behind Steves style, hes one of my favorite characters to play today and I never forget what he felt like the first time I played him. There are better Tekken games, but I still believe Tekken 4 has the best atmosphere and music, with an honorable mention to the writing.
Tekken 4 looks wonderful. The information is clear and easy on the eyes. And I think it has the best music.
music is the best in tekken history 😍✌
Airport
The fight club stage & music is the best for me. Always gets me pumped.
@@izzoArtistry same with that lab theme goddamn that's beautifully erie
The last Tekken which took paul Seriously
This was my first Tekken game and I loved it's atmosphere, tone and story telling. After playing the earlier ones, Paul's ending in 4 became one of my favourites because of how he changed and grew. The artwork during the intro and some outro parts to the character's stories was also amazing.
Maybe someone should send this to TMM, so it can get more exposure.
I wish. It'd be nice if he ended up seeing it, I know he likes Bryan's story back in T4 at least.
@King of Iron Fist Yoshimitsu confirmed more powerful than helicopter?
@@GizouGitai he is a helicopter
Mainmanswe should watch this. He really loves tekken 4.
My personal favorite Tekken. The music, the mood and atmosphere, the character designs and costumes... Everything about this one was amazing when it came out
Tekken 4 and 5 are my favourite Tekken games of the Franchise. ☯️ By the way Tekken 4 had the best story and atmosphere no doubt. Also my favourite Tekken Intros of the series are 4 and 5. Especially Tekken 4, developers did a lot of things incredibly right, most storylines were incredibly cool and the atmosphere and seriousness was just on a another level. I don't think most would disagree that Tekken 4 had a great"everything-except-the-fighting" to it. Great and Epic soundtracks, unique character designs, good individual stories, and an interesting main Mishima arc revival. The thing is that it's still a fighting game and no matter how great everything else is, if the fighting bit is flawed it'll overshadow the positives. ☯️✌
“Rollback net code will never recreate the feeling of sitting next To your sibling and asking how did you do that” hit the nail on the head 😭
Easily the most beautiful and moving game in the series. They need to reboot the series from Tekken 5 and continue the arc of Jin choosing Jun's way of life rather than becoming a psychopathic tyrant for occult reasons.
The Story of Tekken 4 is better than ''The Last of us Part 2''. Especially King Story.
I loved this Tekken game. It was the peak of the series in terms of tone and atmosphere and writing imo. Kings ending is great.
Dude this is phenomenal!
Thanks. Show it to a friend if you can, do me a favour. Hard to spread content when most places have stringent "no self advertisement" rules, and such.
8:06 have stuck with me for soo long now and I really need to vent. This is the reason I despise the community as a whole. They completely forgot the reason why a lot of us started playing fighting games to begin with. Talking about how balance, gameplay and netcode is very important (which they are), but I feel they're even more aspects that are completely forgotten about nowadays. Barely anyone cares about stories so that's why we keep getting half assed attempts at stories now, barely anyone cares about about content, more specifically offline play, so that's why most games either lack of half assed single player content. No more unlocking cool characters from those modes shill out 5-10 bucks for a single character and even if you could unlock them from a shallow as hell single player mode, you can still pay for them and skip it entirely and be a elitist ass because you simply don't like playing single player content. Wouldn't be as much of a problem if developers made actually good single player content but that's hard to do now isn't it? The fact they keep excusing this shit for far too long is disappointing as hell. And as for online, since that's the only way to have fun in fighting games now. As long as the game is still alive then you can keep finding matches and not worry about the people you fight but god forbid you play a old game from back in the day with a limited scene or even a new game with a small player base, now you have to be in lobbies and/discord servers filled with elitists and dumb matchmaking conditions that makes me pissed off. I'm sorry that I can't spend $500+ for a pc and get a wired connection just to fight one person over and over again and once that session is over not being able to find another opponent for another 30+ minutes. I know I'm exaggerating on a lot but I swear that how it fucking feels like nowadays and I'm suck and tired pretending it's okay. Tekken 4 is what got me into fighting games and what I base my enjoyment around, not one-to-one obviously but just the fact is the game fun and will keep me around for a long time even if the game's "dead" which most games now just can't do. Especially not tekken 7 despite being my favorite gameplay-wise I can't enjoy it as much as I do 4 or 6 and simply because it lacks content nor personality compared to its predecessors and it's really fucking depressing.
That's what the trend of sacrificing enjoyability, single-player content & depth in the altar of esports gets you nowadays, sadly. We started from games providing barebones online play & slowly drifted towards live service & esports models. Tekken 4 is the epitome of what some call the PS2 golden era of games that sought to stand on their own merits. With Tekken 5, we started to see the degradation of the series' identity as the focus started to switch towards esports, all while the cast effectively were stuck in place in terms of character development, with the most egregious example being Mr. Demon Eye AKA my good old main, who went from a somewhat complex villain (T2 & 4) to a momma's boy in T7, while Kazumi herself, who is supposed to be the catalyst for the story, was effectively bastardized as a character... which is very bad considering how there's a possibility the Hachijou clan would serve as the centerpiece of the next arc.
i find it interesting that they limited backdashing in the game that introduced walls which would already add danger to backdashing into a bad position
Only reason I can think is so you don't backdash toward a wall and position swap grab, to force the situation. KBD came back without position swap. Or they didn't understand their own meta, and they were two unrelated decisions applied without considering eachother. Not uncommon in such an intricate genre.
T4 has always been my favorite game in the series. Before, I thought it was because they just put more effort into the story modes with prologues and endings that told stories unto themselves, but the ideas of giving into your hate or rising above it and having Jun lead Jin's eye to a Buddha that you've pointed out here elevate a game I already loved even higher. Thank you for your fascinating insight into these games...I fear that the rest of your videos will be downhill, as I feel T4 was the peak and everything after it started sliding downhill but, if anyone can find value in those games, I think it's you. ...Really wish they stuck with this approach to gameplay for the series. Not just the bolder attempts to spice up the canonical path, but the emphasis on movement and intricate locations. Competitive players can always opt to just use the flat arena like Smash Players do with Final Destination while players less concerned with raw skill can switch things up when they want to...Probably a lot of trouble to design and build stages like that, though, especially if the e-sports scene isn't gonna take to them.
I love Tekken 4 so much The Characters, Atmosphare,Story,Music,etc... is Awesome.
Oh this video is a gem. And so is the game.
As a kid, I grew up playing Tekken 3 but Tekken 5 was the first game in the series I actually owned and spent a huge chunk of time with. So I prefer the over-the-top fantasy elements of the aforementioned games. I didn't get to play Tekken 4 until much later, and when I did, it did feel a bit alien to me. That said, the stages and unusual character designs alone always made me appreciate the game, as well as unique mechanics like Yoshimitsu's Soul stealer and other interactions that has since been cut from the game. I prefer the aesthetics of 5 personally. I think it did a great job of taking Tekken 4's designs and re-introducing a visual flair closer to Tekken 3. That said, Tekken 5 introduced a lot of things I sincerely dislike about the series: Over-the-top character obscuring customization items, major emphasis on juggles instead of close quarters fighting, and most importantly; The story. The wasted potential of Tekken's story telling is so disappointing, it hurts. As a kid, one of the major appeals to me of Tekken, in comparison to other games in the genre, is that it had a compelling and engaging story. The kind of stories that were fun to talk about with friends. I would learn about the deeper story of other characters through other kids. Tekken 4's emphasis in story is something I sorely miss. This even extended to the character designs. As a King main, I will use him as an example: In Tekken 3, he is the more energetic successor to King from T1 and 2, so his outfit is more colorful. His 2P outfit looks like training gear, donning Armor King's mask which visually conveys the story of who is training him. In Tekken 4, Armor King is dead and King's longer hair gives him a scarier look that goes with his new more unkempt personality. His secondary outfit is instead a flashy casual cowboy outfit with expensive looking accessories, which conveys to me that his training is over and he has become a financially successful orphanage owner, instead of struggling like he did back in T3. Now we get to Tekken 5 and his story, as well as his visual design, is halted past this point: He dons an outfit that takes the T4 design and re-introduces the color scheme of T3. His secondary outfit makes him look like a priest (because he is one!) which I suppose fits with his theme of forgiving Marduk. But that's it. It's been almost two decades and the story, nor the visual design, has moved forward. This is jarring to me because some level of effort is definitely there, but I feel like it isn't channeled correctly. Tekken 5 had amazingly put together CGI endings that were satisfying to watch but lacked any meaningful progression. Some of Tekken 5's character interludes are amazing, with Wang Jinrei surprisingly taking the cake. Tekken 6 went into excruciating effort of writing unique dialogues for each character in the scenario campaign, at times acknowledging obscure lore. Tekken 7 has a bombastic story mode that ambitiously weaves together guest characters and past events alike, which clearly took lots of funds and effort. So I sincerely wish that with the success of Tekken 7, we can finally go back to hiring writers for each character and advance their stories. We can still have joke endings and over the top CGI action, as long as they are character appropriate and/or are balanced with engaging and satisfying conclusions or continuations of individual characters' journeys, I would be very happy.
Right. My friends and I even talk about the Tekken animated movie as if it was a canon, as bad as it was (lol). We never talked about frames and other technical crap that most FG players are obsessed with.
You forgot to mention another reason why Tekken 4 was frowned upon. It was something that's forgotten. It was released the same year as Virtua Fighter 4. Tekken 4's gameplay paled in comparison to VF4's highly technical, and exquisitely balanced gameplay. It was not just seen as a disappointing when compared to its predecessors, but to its competitors as well. I'm a huge Virtua Fighter fanboy, but Tekken 4 did surpass VF4 in various aspects. It had superior music, character designs, and artistry than VF4. Not to say VF4 lacked in these areas, but Tekken 4 was oozing with style. Tekken 4 even has one of the best story in a fighting game to rival Mortal Kombat 9's story mode. Whereas the only Virtua Fighter game with character endings, was a weird spin-off aimed at children. Great video btw. I too stan Tekken 4.
Hear hear. I picked up a copy of VF4 recently cause I remember it being praised to high heaven when it was released. I played it for maybe 20 minutes before thinking, "how is THIS the 'greatest fighting game ever'?". No extra modes, no story content, no nothing! Yeah, it's technically sound, but casuals need something to grip on to as well!
Tekken 4 was such a biggg step-up! Never has a Tekken game felt more *Next-gen* The graphics/stages/music were 👌
Didn't expect such a good video🎥
I could say the same to you, I watch your stuff sometimes.
As someone who grew up with Tekken 4 and have never been one for the competitive scene and the hoo hahs of frame data, balancing and matchups and the like, I love this video so much. The world-building and lore is absolutely second to none in this game. Each character in this game peaked storywise in this game and their motivations, flaws, goals and personalities were portrayed at their absolute best from a storytelling perspective. The roster size is understandably a detriment to some but personally, it worked because it outlined the superiority of these characters; these were truly THE best fighters in the world and the small roster and the intimacy of it all sold that. Everyone had a genuine reason to be there and I’d argue that the bigger roster size and the need to account for certain filler characters in the future seriously damaged the storytelling. So much of this game’s charm and heart was gone over the years. While I can certainly appreciate what Tekken 5 brought to the table and its return to the more light-hearted, fun storytelling, I feel certain decisions and directions had a domino effect that dampened the quality of later games, and even Tekken 5 itself to some extent. 4 was as close to the ultimate, gritty, bloody street fighting epic I’ve always wanted to see and I’d love to see a return to the style and ethos. I’d love to see this kind of story retold with the capabilities of modern storytelling in fighting games. In particular, the Soul Calibur 6 model would be absolutely perfect for this type of storytelling. Sadly, I think it’ll always be a case of what could’ve been. Awesome video.
Well said. Tekken needs to return to this format with 8. This is a must.
@@Anw4rr10r I’ve accepted that it probably never will, which is a shame, but we can dream.
@@Anw4rr10r Tekken 8 still look cartoonish but I can see the improvement compared to 7.
The atmosphere and the story mode is fantastic (Pauls ending being my ultimate favorite, King's being second and Kazyua's being third). If only Tekken 7 had a story mode reminiscent of this and not "episodes", plus maybe combining it with Tekken 5's interludes. I'm hoping Tekken 8 does something along the lines of 4 in terms of story.
This game had the best prologue: its feels, its drawings, its music damnn.
tekken 4 is my favorite tekken...I didn't know other people didn't like it
Always has been mine as well along with 3. 5 is cool not bad by any means but none are on the level of t3 and t4 other than the obvious big boost in graphics from later games
The ending. Such powerful words to end on, simply fantastic.
Someone who prefers Tekken 4 over 5 has the same reason, some prefer MJ Ghost over Thriller. It's the atmosphere, that is unmatched. Also the close aggressive combat is fun.
Great video man. Tekken 4 was my first Tekken and I'll always love it's aesthetic
You seriously deserve more subscribers.
Thanks, dude. Share my shit if you think it's good.
i just relived my childhood memories x 2 over
Tekken 4 is my favorite game of all time, if not, its easily my favorite fighting game. The narrator's voice is so badass its insane. The Kazuya story battle is one of the most cold and beautiful sequences ever in a fighting game too. The music is relaxing and memorable. The menu sound effects are eerie. The art and graphics are more watercolored, and the King storyline is sick as hell (His T4 Character design is even my PFP) The only thing I dislike about this game is the movement but its not too bad. These recent Tekken games can't touch T4 imo. Great video by the way, took the words out of my mouth.
I enjoy beating kazuya and Jin ass with my main heihachi on ultra hard mode lol
I seriously wish Tekken 7 had the option for the 4 announcer. that distortion is so sick
You have a great narrating voice. And this video is bound to blow out at some point. Sadly it seems KZhead algorythm prioritizes quantity over quality
My favorite in the series the dark griity atmosphere really makes this tekken unique and Interesting
You deserve more views great video!
Nice Bulma cosplay. A++.
Few games remind me of my childhood more than this one. I was born in 1996 and one of my first games was Tekken 3. The first game I got with my PS2 when I got it for Christmas in 2001 was Tekken Tag Tournament. I saw Tekken 4 on the shelf at a store when it came out and was speechless and begged my parents for it. I believe I got it for either christmas or my birthday that year and unlocked all of the characters with my Dad. While i'd say Tekken 5 js probably my overall favorite in the series, this game is the most nostalgic. Great video!
I really wish the writing and stages were retained, could you imagine how Tekken would have evolved if it was received better at the time? With some polish Tekken 5 could have just been a massively improved Tekken 4 with these crazy dynamic stages and solid writing, I don't know if the overall atmosphere of Tekken 4 would have been kept maybe it would have still been a little less moody as time went on. This game was revolutionary and I wish the ideas were kept, what really held Tekken 4 back was the balancing but as of Tekken 7 I think the balancing has been nailed, I wouldn't complain if these types of stages came back, and who needs infinite stages when the stages are massive and open like in Tekken 4? I wish there a way we could just be like "Namco we were wrong, we didn't understand how good it was until we lost it, please bring this back for Tekken 8 or something." Tekken 8 doesn't seem like it'll have stages as nice as this but I'll hold out some hope for it, on a technical level Tekken 4 is still the most advanced Tekken game, it's crazy. Tekken 4 is basically what happened to the Prequel Trilogy, everyone hated it at the time but nowadays everyone loves it.
Tekken 4's strong points were in its art, music, and presentation. No Tekken game yet has had the A E S T H E T I C of 4. 2,3, and 4 were truly special in that sense. I wasn't a serious Tekken player until recently, so competitive/mechanical shortcomings of this era are lost on me. Also the narrative intros were kick ass. That raspy voice going over the character plots was pure kino.
nice video bro
Thanks, bro.
Fuck man tekken 4 was so good. Wish tekken 7 put the same amount of effort into their characters. They got so close with the mishima saga but even then its still not as good.
This video had no business being this good but you did it anyway. Phenomenal job!
Great video. Tekken 4 is a great game, out of the whole series it was the one that was somewhat more ‘realistic’ and sometimes that’s far better.
I loved tekken 4. The graphics were almost, the character models were great and it was fun. I never really played tekken tag as it was released whilst at university. Some stages were fantastic like the underground fight club, the arena and the forest. Tekken 5 was also fantastic then I lost interest. I recently started playing tekken 7 and can't believe how good it is. I haven't been this impressed with a fighting game for many years.
Lol Tekken music goes very well with your narration. Also the story is more like crash than pulp fiction
An excellent and in-depth look at one of the best entries in the series. Tekken 4 took the series, and made it grow up. Gave it a depth and for a brief moment showed the world that Tekken can be so more than 2 people hitting eachother, all wrapped up in an art and sound direction that no entry after it even comes close to. For me this and Tekken 5 were truly the last numbered entries in the series with your video highlighting exactly why. Thanks.
This video was absolutely brilliant. You managed to perfectly capture in words what makes this game so special, and how every single aspect made it into such a vibe that is still unmatched to this day. I’m more of a fan of Tekken 7’s gameplay, but I definitely feel like the quality of other areas in the series have taken a huge dip. I can only hope that somehow Tekken 4 will have any influence on the next installment. Tekken 4 will always be my favorite Tekken, and one of my favorite games of all time. Minus the gameplay, everything else from the character design, atmosphere, announcer, OST, art direction, and story will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for making this!
Here i was just sitting and enjoying a good video about Tekken & suddenly,,,out of no where, i get a punch to gut with that ending....Ive played these tekken games soo much & never realised that...soo thank you Video is simply beutiful :)
Your Analysis here is the best one I have listened to in years. You get straight to the point. Swiftly and elegantly, address and point out every aspect. End it with the games simple yet intriguing message and perspectives to every characters ending.
"The true subject of your hatred is yourself" --- this is a bit cliche imo but you're right that it's the moral of Tekken. I think real life is a bit more complicated though. All the degeneracy in media is something I hate because it corrupts people. That doesn't change whether I'm at peace with myself or not. Like "it's not rape or murder you hate, it's how they make you feel that you hate. :)" It irks me to no end.
Authentic sky should win a Grammy
I'm still waiting for T4 to show up on Steam.
Mate I coulda clapped when you spat those bars people forgetting why they loved fighters to begin with. I constantly stun people when telling them I, not only want the style but the gameplay of TK4 to return. To start I will summarise I will summarise the overall theme of the franchise by saying that a lot of the games, like all things are partly a reflection of their times but are mainly different ideas of what the developers think fans envison when imagining a fighter. Before we imagined that fighters came from martial arts movies, after we imagined they came from an entertainment wrestling and organisations such as the UFC whereas now they are more like exaggerated versions of themselves as are Anime heroes that are based on real life themes. The aggressive, poking-focused meta did so well to sell the feeling that you're in a early 2000's fight scene, in Tekken. I feel like you could make a whole essay just on the differences in between this game and the newer ones. If I have things to get off my chest then it might be time for me to make videos of my own now that I have something important to share rather than little clips of gameplay that I made solely for the purpose of being seen I'm gaining likes. Tekken 7 was an attempt of finding a style or maybe not, they were just trying to sell their fighting game and really deep meta. Maybe that is how, It ended up with loud catchy music that is cool at a glance, not very memorable but at least fun to hear , despite the fact that none of the songs suit any of the stages. There have been many other videos like this made for Tekken 4 but I don't see other games getting the same treatment because very few of them actually had what we would call an identity. Tekken one had one by way of not having one and so did the others now that I think about it although that sounds like a contradiction. It was a cartoony attempt at making an arcade game and that's all. 2 seemed like all of the same with the overlay of a martial arts movie that had things in mind like Bruce Lee and Van Damme films. Tekken 3 felt like it was trying to be the first one to be really cinematic whilst being a bit of a product of its times which amounted to feeling like an underground mma tournament coated in Punk Rock and grit. 5 is like 1 in the sense that it's attempt to find itself just made it feel a lot like a plain arcade game, which in spirit, leads it to feel like a new Tekken one to me. Tekken 6 was a lot like the games of its time and some of the mystery anime stories like Eden of the east which isn't very popular but is really good and even has a main character that is using his political powers to commit war crimes. Tekken Tag 1 is a lot like Tekken 2 because it has all of the same traits, minus the electric energy of the third game on the guitars to match. I was just thinking to myself about tag two in that game given that it was made to please a lot of the arcade/tournament fans that the game had naturally attracted, it actually felt the same way that it feels to watch Tekken being played at a tournament and this is also reflected in the fact that the aesthetic is styled like the graphics we would see that something such as an iron fist tournament. It's not very popular to criticise these new games because people really need them to do well if they want them to continue there's also this idea that people want to believe they have invested a lot of time to learn something really meaningful when practising with these characters for years on end and but Tekken 8 seems to me like Tekken 8 doesn't have much of a style, other than that of a game that is made really loud explosive and appealing to those who love modern graphics and anime and have influenced the developers to project that on top of what we used to have.
Tekken 4 has always been one of my favorites in the franchise. Sporting the second best look for Yoshimitsu is also a bonus. Love the Announcer, love the stages, love the newcomers, love the music and the pace of the fights did not bother me. Great game
Might be the nostalgia talking but this is my favourite Tekken game. Best story, best atmosphere, best music. The gameplay isn't "Tekken" like and very much grounded but I think that comes down to preference in what you want a Tekken game to be. And as much as this is at the core "a fighting game", I'd take a great story any day honestly. But that's just me.
Grew up appreciating Tekken outside the competitive scene. Heck, majority of T3 and T5 players aren't even into competitive scenes. Most of my friends and cousins weren't that good as I always beat them, lol. Don't need validation from these FG clowns to tell me if T4 was good or not.
t4 definetly felt like a 'tekken' game to me. It was the closest to the perfection of Tekken 3. How can u claim it didn't feel like a Tekken game when the movesets and button combos execute almost as good and in depth as 3?...the only big different from 3 to 4 is of course the graphics but the all around movement ,which I personally loved so🤷
As much as how broken Tekken 4 was when I first played it on PS2, it has a very compelling storyline that makes this game very unique. Sad that we can't see it on Tekken 7. Nice video btw :)
While humans have been fighting for a long time for our entertainment we can say we evolved to a graceful approach...tekken by no means is realistic game from fighting bears to an family line that can legit generate electricity from their bodies nothing about that is realistic but half of these moves they do will flat out incapacite or out right kill you so nothing comical about that tk4 keeps it more grounded and believable than the rest of the series...alcoholism, suicide, depression, manslaughter, revenge those are very dark things to deal with and I'm glad that tk4 experimented and became that edgy teen of the series its just to bad that we didn't appreciate it when 1st came out
This video should have WAY more views. This is professional and amazing. We should help him share this.
I absolutely loved this, thank you for making a video and putting into words how I felt about this game but never really understood why as a kid. The thematic explanation near the end was EXCELLENT!
As a fan who started with 3, I love every game after it. Even when 5 and 6 came out, I'd still revisit 4 because it felt so different
This is the Last Game Also that the Characters Aged. Even in Tekken 8 Jin and Kazuya Don't even look way Older Than in Tekken 4
Sir you have one of those rare videos that adds to me appreciating something more.
Even Mainmanswe thinks this game is underrated.
Caught you on reddit and god damn is this a great video! Bamco should check these out to see where they went wrong story wise
This video is so beautifully made and mixed. I love this video. You deserve an extra subscriber.
So I just found your channel and this playlist today and may I say top notch work really enjoying these videos so far
That was a spot on ending I needed to hear thank you
rollback netcode, while not being your sister, is definitely an upgrade on delay based. xD
Man this is an amazing analysis!
Underrated channel of the century honestly your tekken 4 video is great,I especially love your in depth analysis of the cast. Especially king, brayan, Paul and the Mishima family of what happens when you don't let go and get consumed by vengeance and power and how that corruption will not only affect you but other's as well. Sadly Kazuya couldn't let go and Heihachi as well. Jin,Paul and king moved on knowing there's more to hatred and power, sadly however one became a joke and the other couldn't commit King got the respect he deserved. Tekken 4 was my first game in the series it's a shame we probably won't get peak storytelling in this franchise again. It doesn't however change the fact that what we have was great it just didn't live up to that potential. Anyway great video made my day and keep it up.😁
Great video! Amazing atmosphere in this game deserves more credit for sure
Amaizing vid Just one correction marduck killed armor king in a bar while he was trying to stop a fight he was having with someone at that bar
Damn dude great video! The ending was perfect, great narration. I agree there is something about the environment and the music that was just so aesthetically pleasing and well put together. Tekken 4 is a gem.
What a video! This is truly the peak of Tekken ❗🥊
How did you get those camera angles of the stages? I am so amazed by the shot of the Shinjuku stage at 3:38.
I asked the Ryona community really nicely for their hidden tech.
I also understand why people would dislike Paul's ending of they didn't see him as a joke character.
Wow. Amazing. The ending was amazing. Thanks!
This game has the best music in the franchise
wow this video was so amazing!! Thank you for your work man!
Great video, I am glad to be seeing Tekken analysis videos. It's my favorite fighting game.

Brilliant video pal, and I couldn't agree more with all points raised ✅️
Wow what a beautiful video ( i actually watch pauls ending sometimes for motivation )
It's the same garage as in Tekken 2's opening y'know. Dude legit went back to basics.
@@GizouGitai dang that’s sick i never paid attention to that
Love your vids, this needs more views
I am so very thankful I was suggested this and your other video essays given their relatively low view count. I greatly appreciate your style of analysis; insightful, informative, poignant & packaged under a mature tone which makes for a welcome counter to the sensationalist opinion pieces that are more common on the platform. I've returned often to watch this in particular, & eagerly anticipate any further work you may produce.
this is good stuff, man
Beautiful video
You should have praised hworangs ending for having the best line in the series
WELL I DO!! [skreeeeee]
