Hey originally the in the first purge everything was mostly alright. Looting, stealing, and huge parties(of course their was some of the more serious crimes but not to the extent of like the most recent purge movies). Until the government sent out kill squads, so that people would kill each other so they could control the lower classes.

Sparing them isn't only being moral but also giving your enemies another chance to strike again. This ain't the bible. They aren't obviously touched by her magnanimity. And will take the next opportunity they get to kill them. She's putting not only her life but also her kids' in danger like this. Morality is subjective in a sense. And also the code can sometimes be more flexible than not killing. There are people whom have killed, for reasons that are justifiable, that managed to keep their humanity in tact. Those who can't perhaps shouldn't. If this mother couldn't, well, sucks for her. She have to move with her kids quickly after this because the next purge the neighbours will be after them. And there's no way they could continuing living next to these neighbors after this little fiasco, where the neighbors tried to kill them. They can never be safe or feel safe around them. I know I wouldn't. Hence its either you kill them or move far away from them and ensure they can never find you. Lol.

I once read a story in a novel where the good guys got hold of the bad guys just the family did with the neighbours. The bad guys said the same thing, just get it over with. The husband from the family said no and instead shot the bad guys in their shoulder, knee and spine. His words were, I can see how much you want to live, I want you to hate it. I don't want you to die, I want you to suffer. Everytime you can't eat your food or take a walk I want you to remember me.

This single line was more meaningful and deeper than the rest of the movie for me
Honestly, if this happened in real life, and my neighbors tried to kill me, I would have protected myself instead of waiting for the Purge to end. The reason for this is because even though all crime is legal for 12 hours, you still have the right to self-defense in life threatening situations. However, the mom did a noble thing as she decided to wait it out and not kill the neighbors.

I didn't enjoy the first movie but this ending was just quality. Refusing to kill the people who wronged her because she's better than that. Now those families have to live with the knowing that they were spared because their "victim" allowed it.
There's nothing better about letting people who tried to kill your family stay alive. She should have fucking tortured them all night THEN put a bullet in their heads. These people were planning what they wanted to do all year. By the time they would have done it, all sense of guilt would have been washed away

While I can accept that you enjoyed the movie, or that the movie had a good montage and even some quality scenes, this movie is a classic for it's silliness. The over the top pshyco british villain and the fact that a movie about a violent rampage can actually be made trying to be serious, but that's not a reason to be considered as a masterpiece. It's not even near to be a cinema masterpiece.

I don’t think it’s talked about enough in the comment section how great the acting skills were for the mother!! I mean the despair and anguish in her face and voice when she said “Not my kids, Please not my kids!” You could feel the worry and absolute need in her voice and it is powerful
Was looking for this exact comment! Everyone's just like, "lol nice face bash",,, But the mothers acting is incredible, its so disturbing. Honestly the acting was so good it almost felt out of place with the rest of this otherwise pretty tame home invasion horror movie. Its the only part that stuck with me from the entire series. I know it was 2 years ago but this comment is underrated, good on you.

Lena it's so talented and skilled, in this movie i didn't see Cersei anywhere, it was Mary all alone. I love her, she ofc would be remembered quickly for Cersei but i'm glad to Lena it's just another character in her repertoire and have *range.*

I think it’s more than that. I think they were mad that their security system was way better than theirs even going as far as making all entre points guarded with metal walls. And they had a better house, making more money, and the neighbors were just jealous of that.
Not really, in the beginning the mom and the creepy blonde lady neighbor just talked about how they sold a security system to everyone on the block, and used the money to pay for an addition on their garage. She was being passive aggressive and was like "I heard we all helped fund that new addition on your house" uh yeah because you all bought a product off of us which we make profit off of and can use the money for whatever the hell we want.
I thought the neighbors were all people who'd lost family because the dad's security system failed them? Like, they'd all either had their system be breached or malfunction, and so one by one they'd all moved to the family's neighborhood, hoping to get a chance to purge them for revenge?
The way she just gives her an intense nosebleed and tells them to get out the house lol
