If your garage is your gym or your workshop or your hobby space...these are the 5 things I suggest everyone does to make the space better.

Roof winch - I'll do a seperate video if demand is there, but basically.......take a decent rope - any rope will do but climbing rope is much nicer to use than cheap rubbish (get from any climbing shop!) One end of the rope ties up to your roof (however you like, I fitted a simple beam up there to tie onto. The rope then comes down and passes through the pulley before going back up. Onto that pulley you also attach a carabiner or hook - anything you like to attach to whatever you are hanging up. The rope that has now gone back up to the rook goes through a second pulley and back to you (That second pulley is attached up the same way you tied of the rope to start with) The rope now back with you just needs some means of locking off - you could just fit a hook to the wall and tie off on that but I used boating cleat locks as per the link.

  • I lived in a van for 4 years. I live now in an small double room in a hostel. (I can literally extend my arm from the bed and touch the bike). I don't have so much space but my TT bike is permanently on the trainer, ready to get the training done. I trained 3 half IM living in a van (training at the local gym and outside) and 3 full IRONMAN living in our small bedroom. For me, space is irrelevant, more you have more you store. Don't give up on your IRONMAN dream. Keep training hard like you do. Great video like as usual.

  • One of the best, most useful, relatable and actionable videos I've seen on KZhead, period. My garage gym is mostly optimized, now I need to apply your 3 Rules for Storage, especially: "Nothing Unnecessary" and "Nothing on the Floor". I am also a fan of extra hooks close at hand, though mine are red! Thanks!

  • I'm going to set up my garage/powerlifting gym/pain cave in the next couple of weeks and I knew that saving this video on Watch Later would help me. I'm in a different situation because unluckily the ceiling is just at 2.42 meters but great advice about the light, the wall color, and the floor indeed. I'm also adding a good automatic ventilation control system because we have more than 30°C in the summer with a lot of humidity. I have a question about your ceiling. Did you clean up everything recently over there on the top? Or there are no spiders at all in the UK? Here in Italy, after few days you'd find lot of massive spiders inside your backpacks and all the stuff you have above your head.

Nonetheless, if you are worried about moisture, there is paint that will work called dry-lock. There is probably other kinds as well. Also there are multiple heating solutions, maybe you could look into installing insulation and garage heaters. For my small set up I use a garage heater with temperature sensors and timers.
