But I don't think that Volk punches any harder than some of the beasts in LW...Gaethje, Oliviera, Poirier. And, surely, if we're talking about one of the largest LWs whose main game is man-handling, grappling, wrestling...then Volk's size and weight has to count against him...moreso against Islam than against any other fighter in the division.

Legendary fighter we'll remember for generations. But there are weight classes for a reason. His partner Israel is a good example of that. Incredible striker. Best in his division before Alex came around. Went up, fucked around, and found out against Jan who isn't even the best at light heavy. Point is. Volk has no chance of winning. Not a single ounce. It's a good talking point but I keep telling people they're going to look back and see how obvious the outcome truly was.

    • The ONLY way Volk can win this fight is to wrestle with Islam. It's not a question of if Islam can take him down. It's a matter of what can Volk do if it happens. Considering how tiny he is, weight definitely matters when it comes to grappling. Much more than it doesn't when striking. He couldn't possibly be good enough to wrestle with Islam even if they were the same skill. Zabit is an elite level grappler in the same division as Volk and even he was tossed around like a sack of potatoes against Islam.

  • I’m also so happy to hear Islam will go to 170 pounds. I’d like Khabib, but I was upset. He never challenged himself. He always went against a striker. He never went up against a high level grappler. It’s not his fault there were none but that’s why he would need to go to 170 pounds to find out. so glad Islam will do it. A fight between him and someone like Covington. I think would be epic. Two best grapplers probably in the UFC. I would say Usman but I doubt he will fight Usman because they are buddies.

    • Not how Islam wants to do it. And I don't think the matchmakers would allow a match like that anyways. Immediately moving up with only two title defences.

    • Out of all the lightweight champions in recent years, Islam is most likely to move up to 170 for a title fight and he could win no matter who it is at the time, Edwards, Usman, Colby, Shavkhat. Hopefully, Islam defend 2-3 more times and then moves up.

  • The best objective analytical coach of all matches. He knows this fight game from the logical standpoint. Height, strength and grappling is going to be too much for the heart, reach and durability of Volkanovski CC. Inshallah If Islam gets him to the floor, I genuinely believe he is not going to believe the force he is up against when he feels the grip with the technique. It will be 4+ rounds because Volkanovski will hold his ground but he will recognize that the ape in front of him has IQ and more strength.
