Growing up a girl (who just so happened to like videogames), it never felt "wrong" to play as a male character. Nor did it feel dismissive to who young me was irl. The ability to get immersed in the story of a fictional world does not depend on your real life status, but rather, one's ability to empathize with the motives and traits of the characters within said world. Of course, being able to choose a female character in games like Skyrim was fun, but so was playing as a male on replays. When people demand the protaginist look like them in order to enjoy a medium, they're quite frankly telling on their own disability to empathize with people different from themselves. (On a side note: A lot of ladies do not mind the slightest to have a handsome and capable male protagonist to look at while playing, same as many dudes enjoy playing as a beautiful and nimble woman.)
If the character walks in front of me and I have to look at it for 10 hours you can be sure I'm playing as a sexy woman. But you hit the nail on the head when you said it takes empathy. These narcissistic lunatics have none of that so they need their exact likeness shown at all times. Probably why they hate beautiful women 😂
As a kid I learned to master Nina Williams in Tekken 3, she had an appealing look and great move set. Then I found out Metroid and oh boi, Samus took my heart. Now I have all the fantastic women in Resident Evil universe being badasses, Miriam in Bloodstained, can't forget Shantae, I always use Coco in Crash games. So weird isn't it? They find an attractive model, then plug it into an AI image generator and basically tell it to turn it into a man. I did the opposite to the Fable 4 character and made her hot within a few easy prompts. You can do the complete opposite also and turn attractive people plain or really ugly. I would put the Starwars Outlaw chick in the plain, mid range manish area. She isn't like ogre level of ugliness like the Fable 4 character but its an obvious uglifying of the orig model. I honestly don't get it... you get people into the game with a cool attractive character, then if the games good also, they will stick with it. Sadly the original staff in the company are all gone, and it's been hijacked by the activists now. Is a shame cause I was quite curious into getting Suicide Squad, until it came out as being a live service game, and so passed on it. Expect the same will happen with the next Grand Theft Auto, with a lot of the original staff gone now.
The majority of games worth playing imo are at least 20 years old. Making games to be fun then expecting profits is better than building a game around just the profits and the fun be damned.

3:00-3:20 I can 100% believe this for many reasons but just to name a few: - older games weren't as preachy/woke - older games didn't have predatory MTX - due to scarcity or lack of time, people didn't have the opportunity to play these older games until now - people are tired of "Ship it now, fix it later" games
For me it’s bcuz most games don’t even try to have good mechanics or anything like that. I still play gta 5 just to drive around bcuz the physics are so good. New games don’t even bother trying to make something better
Just to add, the games that have been released for the last year and half, have mostly been crap. So people are playing their backlog of games.
That they scurry away when you shine a light on them is not an indication of things changing but an acknowledgement that they know what they're doing is wrong.
It's like the special group of German's in the 1940's. It was all fun and games to be open about it for a time, but once it was no longer acceptable, all of a sudden they ran off to South America to hide.
They do nothing. They just leech a lot of money out of a company using blackmail tactics and think they are entitled to berate people on how to check "diversity" boxes, which was untold status quo years ago.
This happened to me a couple years ago. Bought a brand new game a month before black friday. On black friday the game was fifty percent off. It kind-of pissed me off. So now I am generally waiting 3 to 4 months before I purchase a new game. In that time, I'm able to watch reviews.Watch let's play and find out if I really want to play the game. Most of the time don't even bother.

I find myself making time in my day to listen to an Endymion video. It's so consistently assertive while being polite at the same time. There is no rage, no malice, just here's the situation, go look it up for yourself if you think it's wrong. And Endymion corrects later very deliberately and openly if he finds he is wrong about something. It's always refreshing. This is what authenticity looks like and I appreciate it.

I like this guy he gets to the point. A lot of others pad with exposition BS taking forever to get to the point and it gets tedious.
One of the worst problems with this games is that, since they're only playable online, after some time, if the creators decide that the game isn't having many players anymore, they close the servers, and, the players remain with money and time invested in nothing, being forced to look for other game to invest in ! ... 😞

For me its: The price hike to 70 makes me think a lot more about my purchases. This made me make a "buy on sale" list. I'm strictly single player for almost all games, so I avoid all Live services. And I found out there are a lot of great "older" now completely patched games out there for half new price. So I'm spending a lot less while still playing about as much.
It comes down to this: if you are more concerned with forcing your politics down people's throats than remaining outwardly neutral and making good entertainment expect to fail as a business. This is you trying to impose on other people, not the other way around. And it isn't a fight you can win. Entertainment is a luxury and there are plenty of other alternatives anyway. We don't need your terrible woke games.

That’s interesting if writers on shows seen on The CW got gigs working because they got ratings on a throwaway channel I like to think is reserved for Chick Flicks now. Gossip Girl and The Vampire Diaries are two of the shows I am most familiar with, but I didn’t really keep up with the writers for those shows. You see Penn Badgley, an actor, getting roles like a serial killer in the show called You, and then, I know Blake Lively married Ryan Reynolds (they are not quite ten years apart in age).

Live Service can only be played by those who have the time, such as teens and early 20s before they start full time jobs just to live and pay the bills. That is the major problem I have with Live Service Games, as a early gamer from the MMO years with slow internet, I never played games online knowing I wouldn't be able to play it if my internet was slow.
