Great footage and interaction! Those young males stood their ground through they still looked very young. They all stood their ground and showed no fear. The hyenas did not have the numbers but it would have been interesting to see how the youngsters would have fared if a battle broke out. Their strength and aggression will grow as they come of age.

That young adolecence male lion is showing no fear of hyenas and willingness to confront them head on. Once he fully grows up he will be a nightmare for hyenas just like Ntwadumela. His hatred for hyenas have begun and starting to show signs of what male lion do best. Protect the pride.

With lions and hyenas, it’s all about confidence and the will to win. Most of the time, a single lioness has enough confidence to keep at least 6 hyenas at bay for a while. But if the hyenas are willing to win and risk injury, they’ll swarm en masse.

The lion still feasting looks like a juvenile male. But also looks like a lioness. Amazing how he/she communicated/called to the other lions (young and old) leaving the kill to return to handle the hyenas while he continue to feast.

Hyenas tactics: encircle, whine, howl, pester, mob and harass, all the time trying to distract and isolate several of the lionesses. However, on this occasion, there were too many lionesses to intimidate, and so reluctantly they had to retreat empty handed!

This is exactly why lion prides need to expand. The more the better. I've noticed when there's only 2 or 3 lions and a bunch of hyenas there able to take away their food but when it's several female lions and one male or 2 it's game over for the hyenas.

Hyenas are more brave than the lions !!! To take on something twice your size is impressive ! They dont back down, they just try to wear the lions down and it works.

They're not even close to more brave. It takes large numbers of heyenas for them to even be willing to get close to lions. On top of that they have huge bite strength, but most importantly they're pretty fast and and can easily out-endurance a lion if they have to run away. If they get caught that's one thing but if it comes down to a longer race the heyenas endurance far exceeds the lions'.

David Filipović but you claim hyenas are better hunters than lions, so size shouldn't matter. I have seen videos where just 2 lionesses take down a water buffalo. 5 take down a giraffe. This is what real hunters do. Not stand around crying for scarps.

Hyenas scatter when a male shows up because all lioness PLUS the male lion would outweigh their odds and cause them to lose some members. It isn't a fair fight. That's why hyenas retreat and try again another time. If it's a single male by himself without a whole pride, a small clan can overpower him.

Unfortunately can't happen because they have a huge respect on him, still on their genes fear a male lion, with whole pack they never will attack him, let alone him with females, if nature decide that the male lion is the alpha predator there is reason.

Chris Champion I’d still back the lions to win that stand off in a real life setting. There’s a clip of 3 lionesses with about 20 hyenas and even then they’re more than holding their own. Male comes in and chases everyone off the kill. Hypothetical fight to the death the weight of numbers would win at at some point (though not going to bother guessing what that would be!)

To all you wannabe "photographers: Please turn off the fake noise in your digital camera that sounds like the shutter in a film camera. You're not fooling anyone, but you are annoying them! REAL photographers started turning it off back around the year 2,000 when I was still shooting weddings. There's nothing worse than hearing that annoying clicking in a dead silent church, when everyone is supposed to be either praying or listening to the wedding vows. You'll also never hear a REAL wildlife photographer "clicking" from inside his hide after he spent days waiting in it.
