How To Drive A Manual Transmission + Rev Match Downshift (POV Tutorial)
This is how to get started driving a Manual Transmission. A pedal camera will show the footwork while we drive my Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 . We'll review it all from the basics of how it works, to getting you up a hill from a stop. I'll also show you how to downshift with proper rev matches and an introduction to heel toe downshifting so you can brake and downshift at the same time.

Who els is watching this that already dailies a manual? 😂
Right here I just love watching others drive a stick shift vehicle as it's one of my weird hobbies. I really enjoy it lmfao
🤚
☝🏼
bouta get one on saturday never driven one before imma have to get home from the dealership tho wish me luck😭
@@miguelll__ u can literally learn how to drive it in 10 minutes lmao. And are u getting a gt350 or a diffrwnt car?
This is the best down shift video on KZhead. I've been trying to learn how to down shift for awhile now and never knew you don't rev match 1st lol 😅
Happy to help! You can but really no point tbh
You can like if you're turning into a parking lot to smoothly shift into first but don't do it for like performance driving.
pov miles morales teaches you how to downshift
"Nah, imma do my own thing"
Yo, he does sound like him
Man this is awesome!I recently purchased a 2016 GT 6 speed manual two days ago without knowing how to drive manual and let me tell you this video could have not come at a better time😂😂. This style format with the foot cam is a great reference for someone who is new to driving manual. Keep up the good work I watched a lot of your vids before I made my purchase.
Jacksonville?
I am learning/learned in my 17 shelby gt350 lol
15:07 pretty much learned stickshift playing Forza using a sim wheel and shifter along time ago
I believe it lol
Also believe it
Bought my first manual 17gt still learning how to drive it and these videos help so much
Very informative video for those youngins learning how to properly downshift 👌🏼
The video weve all been waiting for dudes got the best down shifts Ive ever seen in my life
You ain't seen many downshifts lol
Thank you for this video. I've been watching you're videos once I got my first manual Mustang. This is what I've been needing that I wish was out when I first got my car. If I need to teach someone how to drive a manual I would use this. Keep them coming.
ive been searching for a video that explains and shows the throttle response in the video this clearly for years! great video👍
Man i love the sound.. its music to my ears 🥰
ive been practicing on gran turismo with the wheel and padals and this video helps explain it pretty good
Thank you for your hard work!
Love your vids man, getting my first manual soon.
My 2024 mustang gt 5.0 has active rev matching. I didn't think id like it but i actually love it. Haven't taken it to the track yet though. But its good for driving it around town. And the thing i absolutely love about it. Is that its the first year where it has the screens for the CENTER AND DASHBOARD! Its so clean. I can't believe it took them this long to do it!
This was great help I’m soon to buying my first mustang and I was considering getting one with a manual transmission but I’ve never driven a manual before
I’m glad I’m able to see that you being more experienced than me at manual don’t feel the need to shift into gear as quickly as possible when the light goes green. Makes me feel a little less pressure from all the cars behind me waiting to go at lights and I’m at the very front lol
This video is so well made and explained. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Back with another banger 👀👊🏾
🤝
Man I have a 2018 GT350 and hadn't got the hang of rev matching but I am gonna practice tomorrow for sure and I've had my car since 2019. Good video man thx and nice car.
Nice work man ❤
Love the foot cam! please consider adding it to more videos 🙌 have around 5 hours of experience and this helps tremendously!!
Will do!
Thanks man I’m getting an SI tmr so this helped a lot
Glad it helped
Nothing like a gt350 vid good stuff 😎👌
Well explained my guy
Thanks for the tips I am 16 and I learned alot from your video
thanks for the video, got a sub
Finally, thank you sir for posting this!
👍
This man works fast the comment from yesterday lead to this video that’s crazy
I was planning on making this before that comment! 😎
So smooth with it
😂😂 “drop two gears and disappear 😅” love the content my boy ! I learned how to drive a manual turbo camaro… I got a mustang gt as my first car soon to be gen 3 coyote t56 manual 🤝🏽
😎🤝
Awesome video, man! Also, I love the sound of the voodoo with those downshifts 🔥 have you ever thought about getting the digital cluster gauges for the 350?
Nah I like the analog gauges
I’ve driven manual multiple times before but never owned one personally and I’m debating on getting a manual to replace my daily. I think my biggest takeaway from this video is seeing that you’re not hitting the brake pedal every single time to slow down and downshift. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong but I guess it’s just knowing when to engine brake and when to utilize all 3 pedals? Also great advice with the 500rpm-1000rpm blip range. Most instructional videos just say what to do but don’t mention how much gas to actually give it when rev matching. Thanks again 🤝🏾
Liked so I can come back after I pick up my 2013 GT premium
hopefully i’m buying my first manual tomorrow pulling off the lot is gonna be an experience lmfao
luv your channel....your 350 is badd!
Thanks! 🙏
Great video brother! but my you dont just dump the clutch when downshifting i do it on s197 gt and its smooth dumping it
i need this car so bad bro
I believe in you bro 🙏
When you rev match do you always do a 500 rpm blip? And is it 500 rpm’s from the rpm’s your at in the gear you were at previously?
Keep up the good work, man. What kind of shoes are those? 😂
Thanks! Nike Janoski!
2 part question from a beginner. When your "rev matching" you are trying to keep the rpm at the same level when you down shift? And second does it matter where in the rpm range you down shift from? Love the videos. Gonna save this video for when i get my gt350 and practice! Keep it up ears!
1. Yes 2. Yes it does. If you’re too high in the RPM you obviously don’t want to downshift close to the rev limit. If you are low in the RPM you want to rev match up to the point where you aren’t going too low for the gear you are in. Sounds confusing but go 30 in 5th gear you’ll know/feel what I mean!
@EarsPOV it does make sense. And thanks for the answer! I'll let you know how it goes. Keep up the good work brother!

Just got my gt, it’s tough feeling out the speeds for shifts, I’m really just shifting on random ass rpm’s right now 😂…practicing everyday though, man them downshifts are tough too, thought it was more of a specific rpm for each downshift but it’s really more feel, the blip thing is new to me, so is coming to a stop in neutral without holding full clutch out, I was told coming to a stop in neutral holding clutch wouldn’t be bad because the clutch isn’t grinding when it’s fully opened up, but idk
The "500 rpm blip" is good for close gear ratios like his gt350 or pre 2019 gt model years. The revised MT82-D4 has taller gears, so you can't really just blip 500 RPMs like in the older cars. Each gear is spaced out much further and requires different RPM blips depending on speed and what gear you're in. Ford messed up when they redid the gearing on the "newer" mustangs
can you blip at any speed? and do you blip when slowing down so you can accelerate faster after someone turned? and also blip for engine brakes? and last question how do I not chirp the wheels lol? thanks
So you can rev match up shift? When you used your turn signal towards the end, and talked about passing traffic. Is that correct?
So what ls the timing on the blip? Like as soon and you clutch and downshift or all one synchronized movement?
Ayyyyeee 👏
He’s the first guy to state that this car does NOT have auto rev match. Everyone else you watch always says differently.
I’ve been driving my new manual 2000 GT for about a month now, I’m comfortable driving it, I can’t heel toe (gas sits higher then brake) but I’ve managed around it. However there’s one thing I haven’t figured out. How do I do pulls without bucking or disrupting the clutch while going through gears? Power shifting is my only problem
if i’m low enough in rpms and, for example, i want to downshift 2 gears, couldn’t i just go from 6th straight to 4th skipping 5th?
W video 😂
I think everyone learned to blip the throttle from the same how to drive manual youtube channel I am doing same thing with my mustang 😄
Im convinced 😂 real shit im gonna go trade my 10r80 gt for a gt350 6 speed 😤
You won’t regret it at all trust 💯
@EarsPOV thanks man I love the content I've had my 21 gt for 3 years now I think it's time for a shelby gt350
now i need a manual 😪 , great vid!
Finding an empty parking lot is the real challenge in Europe 😂
Wait, so when could you NOT apply the clutch when coming to a stop? I dont need to apply the clutch when coming to a stop and if I’m leaving in a gear? Sorry, I havent driven a manual yet and I’m still trying to understand the science of it.
3->2 downshift is so hard for me. Sometimes i over rev it and then othertimes i under rev it.
Bro just made it even more suspicious by immediately dipping after he saw the officer lol
lol why did it take me 15mins to finally understand 😅 "thanks man" my slow ass finna give it a try with a 1995 bmw 325i
Imagine i'm in 3rd gear, can i just slow down and go to neutral when the car stopped moving ?
Show high speed down shifts from fast speeds❤️🤛🏻
Let’s go
So what’s the point of rev matching why couldn’t I just downshift without rev matching
The calculator screen in a gt350 is diabolical
doesn't bother me haha
What exhaust set up u got
Ima recent Trucking school graduate & learned how to drive manual in a 10 speed rig but loved it so much that i want a manual car, is it different?
It should be very easy for you to
What about dropping it from 4th to 2nd
this is what i do on motorcycles. I also shift on motorcycles without the clutch un heavy heavy load ... can u do that in a car as well ? (clutchless shifting)
No unless you everything setup for that
Seen you the other day lol
and also when you come to a stop can you just hold the clutch and stay in gear or do you have to put is in nuetral?
You can but it will burn your clutch significantly faster
Day 2 of ask... Oh it's already here.
🤝
Not me I’ve been in the market for a Manila but nun have peaked my interest yet.
Does it matter when you downshift? Are you waiting on it to hit like 2k rpm before you start rev matching?
Yea you don’t wanna blow your transmission downshifting at a high rpm. 👌🏾
@@gooduplead2248 so does it matter on your car on when you should?
Should I just go buy a manual type r an learn with that car always wanted one just scared to stall a bunch an break the clutch I’ve got like 3 hours max driving manual an I can shift up an some what shift down an sometimes stall when stopped what y’all think 🤔
fuck it do it bro u got this
Wait… don’t you make call or duty videos too?!😆 your voice sounds familiar🤔😅
He strikes again !!! Mouth POV
Tbf this is a tutorial video lol
Serious question no BS, when down shifting you clutch rev down shift all at the same time ?
Yes
I literally tried it this morning and bro it worked 🫡 I thought it was going to jerk but it was just fine THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
Basically rev(throttle)500 blip then clutch and downshift
It depends on car too
First baby
down shifting... step by step... clutch, shift down, gas 500 blip and then release clutch ?
It depends on the car but that's it pretty much. In my car when I downshift from 4th to 3rd for example and it's the same for 3rd to 2nd I need to clutch in, down shift and at the same time or immediately after down shifting while clutch is still in, rev to 2500 rpm (approx) let go of clutch and gas like normal. My car is a 5 speed hyundai so a 6 speed may be different
Are those Stefan janoski Nike SB’s?
Yea
