Maniacs, I have returned with the second and final installment of the Tamiya M41 Walker Bulldog 1/35th scale model build. In this video I explain every single step in the painting and weathering process which I undertook to obtain the results that I had. This video serves two purposes: an entertaining build and also a comprehensive guide on how to paint and weather this particular kit.
I explain common weathering procedures to include : priming, base coating, post shading, sponge chipping, painting chips and rust with a brush, panel liners and washes, oil painting, using pigments, and others. I think I pretty much ran the gauntlet here to make sure I didn't forget any of the essential effects.
Enjoy! Starting a new build in a few days so keep an eye out for future videos.

Hello all, could use your help. As I get back into making videos again I’d really like to know what you either liked, or did not like with this one. Anything I can do to make the next one better? Your advice counts so let me know!
I thought it was great mate! Nice work 👍
Awesome video and thanks for the advice on weathering
I like your attitude and general sense of humor. Perhaps identify the products you are using with background graphics?
@@orangelion03 if I ever get back into video making again, I will do exactly that.
As someone that only recently gotten back into the hobby as well as recently both bought this kit and being into only lightly weathering kits I found this video immensely helpful.
Having just built this kit last night, this video is a perfect step by step on how to paint it. Hopefully I can do at least half the decent job you did for my first armoured model.
Great build 👏
Turned out really well. Great work my friend
Thanks! Feels good to get back into it again, been away for about a year.
Just bought this same kit at Hobby Lobby only cause it was $11. First model build in about 25 years! Also, your weathering was fantastic.
It’s a fantastic kit for trying new techniques on…nice quick builds are always fun. I was very happy how the weathering turned out on this one, def one of my best I think.
Great video my friend really nice job on the painting and weathering I agree with mig paints they are fantastic thanks for sharing 👍👍
Thank you! Gotta love mig paint, plus they are cheap here!
The nostalgia is strong with this one =) My first Tamiya armor kit, 1970-ish? Sooo much better than the Renwall and Monogram 1/32 armor kits I'd slapped together up until then (just a little snark). Goes to show what the application of well developed techniques and skills can do. The proverbial silk sack from Peppa's ears. What did you use for your protective clear coat? I cant bring myself to try anything else than Future, mainly because it sprays so well and even, dries fast and tight to small details, and is tolerant of "hotter" thinners. But open to suggestions. Have used Vallejo and AK semi and flat finishes for acceptable final coats. Cheers!
I agree with the weathering.....some look like they have been in a scrap yard for 20 years lol pretty sure the crew look after their vehicles
😄 That turned nice. Well done! Now if you want another challenge, get either of the ancient Monogram Shermans (the Hedgehog or Screaming Mimi) in 1/32 and trick them out. 🤔😏
Got a monogram Patton done already...maybe I'll take you up on your suggestion haha...only after I do a tiny build next tho lol
Great kit! I catch them at Hobby Lobby for 40% off twice a month!
Looks cool I have the same model but I have not finished yet because I'm waiting for my airbrush
You will enjoy it! Super easy build.
Looks great! Did you use a mat varnish at the end? Why or why not?
I used to matte gloss everything but realized that it often drowned out hours of detail work. A nice semi gloss actually works really well and depending on the look you’re going for, even full gloss can look super nice. Just keep in mind that different glosses can affect saturation diffidently. If you modulate colors and hit with a full gloss they will look way different than if you used semi or Matte.
Very nice, i've watched this video more than once. As a starter this video is very valuable for me😀 What are the color codes of the Olive drab paints u use? I also want to use them. Hope you are willing to help me. Regards, Richard
Hello there and thanks for enjoying this video. This is one of my best builds and am glad people are enjoying it. As far as the basecoat, it’s Ammo Mig FS 23070.
Just curious what needle size do you use for that kind of work do you change them or do you stick with just one would appreciate any information thank
I have three brushes…. A badger renegade for details .2 , a sparmaxx .35 , and a big fengda for the base coats / varnish
Nice job , im not a professional builder, i do ok, my people think there really nicely built, until i show them this stuff, im just starting to weather, can you tell me why people paint all them coats on including black ? Thank you from Ocala Florida
The black is a primer. By using a primer it helps the paint apply evenly and actually stick to the plastic/metal model. It definitely makes a difference. The different layers of green allows you to build up shadow and draw attention to detail. It also allows you to slowly build up color. If you look at surfaces in real life you’ll notice how even though it may be a single color material, parts directly exposed to light are a brighter shade than those that are hidden. I don’t have airbrush experience but it’s the same painting ideas as brush applied paint.
This is the worst Priming I've ever seen in any video. Is this your first day ?
🤣
