Novak Djokovic has been hit by a metal bottle that came from the crowd as he signed autographs after his first match win at the Italian Masters 2024 vs Moutet. The bottle dropped out of a persons bag and put Djokovic to the ground for several minutes and was not an intentional attack as first thought. We hope Nole isnt seriously hurt.

**UPDATE** Djokovic went to hospital due to bleeding from the accident but no stitches required
Hopefully there’s no internal bleeding

Yes ..any unexpected hit from anything... anywhere to the body will be shocking and shockingly painful too. I am really glad that the camera picked up that it was a freak accident and no one meaning him harm. Be well Novak!
It's also the possibility of more objects following the first. In that situation better to cover and wait for safeguards to protect you. That was probably his thinking at that given moment. One never is 100% safe. Especially if you are aware of Monica Seles' case...

Turn it up! How often does someone get injured due to a water bottle? Once in a blue moon!
They probably have a maximum bag size and definitely don’t allow glass, but do allow (and sell) metal containers - including beer in cans. Wow, what a freak accident. It did seem a bit sus at first. The footage of when he came to the court was crazy, he was on the golfcart and there were literally hundreds of people swarming around it and pushing in. They are going to have to up the security anyway, maybe a closed vehicle in future. I felt a bit uneasy when I saw that and now the bottle incident. Even if not meant to harm, they are letting the people get too close to him. Look at what happened to Monica Seles. They need to still allow autographs but in a better controlled environment.

How can a spectator be allowed to bring such a big backpack in like that? Where we are in the US, typically one is only allowed to bring in a small clear tote no more than 12"x12". Large bags are not allowed for security reasons. Djokovic was too nice to go to such an awkward spot to sign autographs. He should never be put to a spot like that where things could fall on him.

This was an attack on Nole, by Mario Ferri
This was most likely an accident. However, I am surprise no one is talking about a potential rule change as a result of this. Yes, I know some accidents are unpreventable. However, this accident can now be "preventable" in the future. I am by no means suggesting that backpacks with straps that hold water bottles or backbacks should be prohibited from the audience. However, I am suggesting that a rule should prevent fans or people within a certain proximity from a tennis player not to have certain things that could potentially drop out or fall on someone. I think i am right. Ask yourself. What if that had been a heavier water bottle. Also, i dont know if the water bottle had any water in it and if so how much? Also, what if the water bottle had been filled with water to its entirety. So in the future, prohibit anything that can fall out or fall onto another tennis player. However, like i said, only within a certain proximity within a tennis player's distance. I think that sounds reasonable.
That’s an awful accident. I hope he’s ok.

It is very understandable that Djokovic has reacted on court like this. He has known the fear and aftermath of war in his own country. ci facciamo sempre riconoscere, ma è possibile!!!
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) cannot be ruled out with recent injury to Djokovic that happened after his first match at the Italian Open May 2024 after beating Moutet. A (metal?) water bottle (with water/drink in it making it heavier?) slipped out of a pack from a fan a meter or more above Djokovic and hit Djokovic in the head. Playing the video in slow-motion appears to show the edge of the bottle striking Djokovic’s head. That could very well have been a great deal of Force delivered to Djokovic’s head at a small point of impact. It would be helpful to know the weight of the bottle and the distance it traveled before hitting his head and then you could compute the actual Force. After being struck in the head, Djokovic doubled over in pain on the ground in a fetal position. In his next match with Tabilo, Djokovic played what some said was the worst game he’s ever played: he looked completely ‘off’ and ‘strange’ and ‘befuddled’. In the press conference after his very quick loss to Tabilo, in response to a question if the head injury affected his playing, Djokovic said “I (went through) a half-hour to an hour of nausea, dizziness, and blood and a lot of different things. I had headaches. (In my subsequent game) I had no rhythm, no tempo, no balance whatsoever on any shot. Today, under high stress, it was quite bad in terms of disbalance (sic), no coordination. I was a completely different player from what I was two nights ago.”
There are numerous people commenting here who doubt that this was an accident. I think when you watch the tape and look at the bizarre "who cares' cold look in the eyes of the bottle guy, and you see he was not trying to get an autograph (he had no pen or paper in his hand) so why was he leaning over?---all these things should raise doubts.
