11" JBL BassPro Hub Subwoofer Install in 1991 Fox Body Mustang (Spare Tire Well Sub) - TIPS05E48
I recently saw someone install one of these in their Foxbody Mustang a few months back and then KASL Customs installed something similar so I figured I would give it a try. I wanted to re-coupe my space in the hatch area from the old 12" MTX & Planet Audio amplifier.
To my surprise this JBL sub not only sounds great for what it is but it fit in the spare tire well with the spare! I did a cool modification to retain the factory tie-down to keep everything secured, check it out!

Might have been me on Foxbody Mafia. I’ve had mine two years and it’s great to see peoples eyes when it kicks in and they don’t know where it’s coming from!
Very nice, what a awesome idea they made to work with the spare tire still in place.
This is awesome! Thx for sharing pal. Sounds amazing 😍
I did not expect to learn that the intro music actually has lyrics... all 4 words..lol... The takeaway... that lady singing that song....she would probably prefer to allow the deep tones to continue sharply and away ...and probably needs a lozenge for that sore throat. Quite the discovery. Well done. Getting close to 10k! I have to admit ye old bass brings back the 90's almost as much as the car.
That's pretty sweet! I'll have to look into one of these.
I put that same sub in my 88 Mustang. It sounds great.
That is a great mod! I’ve always been curious as to how it would sound.
Awesome vlog man! Keep up the great content!
Will do thanks
Cool product!
That subwoofer bangs
Great content as usual. Thank you
You're welcome
That Strawberry Fox body Mustang is nice!
People sleep way too hard on JBL. Picked up a pair of old GT4 10’s in a sealed box for next to nothing and they absolutely bang! These things look like a cool solution.
love the cobras .
Very nice good work
Had the same sub in my 92 gt as well works and sounds good
Where did you get your from couldn't find it on jbl site
Amazon
I haven’t got to the Stereo in my SVO, yet. This is a cool setup. I’m not going to put a huge system in my car, but I still would love to be able to hear the tunes.
For sure!
I’m doing the same I like to see a clean hatch…So, what did you end up doing to made the stock hook to work? Thanks!!
I’m so surprised that you aren’t gaining subs with the popularity of these cars nowadays
It's all in the exposure in which KZhead decides to give me. This is why I hate tech (coming from a tech background) It's out of my hands unless people start sharing/promoting me more. I've learned to accept it at this stage. Once I hit the 10k mark I will revisit my strategy and where I focus my energy most.
This thing must act kinda like a tactile transducer if you screw it down, did you notice a difference testing it loose vs. in the wheel well?
Dynomat that floor! I got that for my RAV4 sounds pretty good! I am getting old so I don’t do big sub box anymore
What year is your RAV4? trying to figure out fit in my 2020. Did it fit with the spare?
@@SeriousGamer53 you know new 2020 model can even fit a full size spare!! mot an issue
What i need especially for a new prius xle
No worries about the headliner as mine looks the same with the drinking roof as well. My kind of video as I have been into car audio since the 90's.
I’ve always thought you should have way more subscribers
I have a convertible that I did a 5 lug conversion on and now my spare is useless. I’d love to get that for my car since I don’t have a spare anymore. Also gave u a sub , wanted to help u get closer to your 10k.
It is a great upgrade for sure. Thanks for the Sub! It's appreciated
I did a 5 lug swap on my coupe. Years later, I went to my local yard and picked up an aluminum 5 lug spare from a Lincoln Town Car. Super light, and peace of mind. It may be common knowledge in your neck of the woods, but just in case you didn't know... Speaking of Trunk/Stereo stuff, on that same trip i found the tension rods for the trunk lid that someone before had removed for sub enclosure. Now, press the trunk release in glove box, lid comes up automatically. Welcome to the channel Frank!
@@92BiminiCoupe thank you! I definitely didn’t know the spare from the Lincoln would work. I have to find one! Thank you for the info. I appreciate it.
My sons mustang had the 5 lug conversion on it when we bought it with the 4 lug spare. I did some research and you can use a spare from a 94-04 mustang gt… I found one for it from the junkyard for $25 and it fits
My question is does it have a on off switch ? Or if you was to install the on off toggle switch would you need to do it on the power cord or another cord
You could easily do a switch on the remote wire
Do you do contract work?
I've been looking for something like this!! I have an all orignal 82GT ttop car that I want to keep as discrete as possible. Not super thrilled about the sub sticking up a little, but everything is a trade off I want to keep things as low key as possible. Great video Chris, keep them coming.
Try the 10" version... It may be shallower
@@TheInfamousProject good call! Just need to pick up where the 5x7 leave off. I'm going to look into this soon.
If you’re okay with not having spare then it doesn’t stick up at all with spare removed. I used a piece of allthread and bent hook on one end to secure mine firmly to the hatch tire well floor then cut excess off flush with top of sub. Put all my factory parts up so they’re available if/when I want go back factory
What is the tool he used to cut the thread bolt?
Thanks!
You're welcome! Thank you for the support
Do you have a website or phone number that I can talk to you about my Mustang?
I ended up using a JL AUDIO W3 in a slim ported box cause I didn't want a huge box taking up all the trunk space in my coupe. I wanted to use a 10 inch but that took up to much space. Do a audio project in a coupe to give us some options
I did a full audio install in the Cali Coupe!
😎
I guess you're kind of called this segment segment Fox science
Finally you admit to the likelihood of a mouse colony in that box 😂😂
You said in the car. I said in the box
@@TheInfamousProject same same… but different
This would be the best idea for me because my girl is stuck in a wheelchair so I can't take away trunk space
Should we use this bass pro with or without tire and moreover can you share your remote knob settings. Cheers
You can use it either way. As for the knob settings, really depends on the song to be honest.
I have a lead on a 1993 Mustang Gt Convertible....100% original / white original paint, black interior / 40K miles / never been driven in the rain / show car from collector / under carriage is spotless, even the rear iron axle still looks new (no dirt or rust)! What's your thoughts on it at $16,000? I'm in Austin and he's only 1 state away.
If a vert is what you're looking for it sounds like a good deal
@@TheInfamousProject Yea... I'm really on the fence. Ultimately I'd prefer a GT hatchback, but they seem to cost a lot more considering the condition. BTW- great content and vids.
If it's that clean and you like verts, go for it. Wish I could have found a clean vert.
I wonder if letting it sit directly on the trunk and then invert the spare over the top the JBL will make it sound even better?
I’m afraid it will rattle a lot. The tyre absorbs vibrations.
Thos is one list of things to do
Would it fit in a s550 mustang with no spare tire?
Not sure man, I don't own anything that new!
Thats like the mtx 6000 or 8000
Where did you get it? What’s the cost ?
Amazon $350
Get to the point! Happy now?
Get grammarly?
