    • Twu is really impressive, but I dont't see the benefits of the strange 6/2 variation (#6 and #20 are both setting, but also play outside hitter and even middle in some positions) they is playing. I personally would put #6 on the outside and #5 opposite. Or at least play a traditional 6/2 were both #6 and #20 set when they are in backrow. You guys from out of system have any idea why they are playing it like this?

    • I am not sure I understand what you are saying here. 1 on 1 blocking happens fairly often in high level competitive games, assuming that most players in these games are able to do everything or most of the things right. Or were you suggesting that the level of this game was not high enough so that the middle blockers should be able to join combination blocks most of the time?

    • @@michaelthomas4617 - Like I said TWU is good but aside from better cohesive team play than a UCLA team that would get beat just as bad or worse by the top five or so US college teams i wasn't blown away. It was like no one on that UCLA team knew how to swing high or use a block out of bounds. The Canadian national team has not been historically "every bit as good as the Americans". USA is consistently in or near the top 5 in the world and in the last few years has only lost to teams in the top 5. Canada is just outside of the top 10 and losses to teams that the current squad beats pretty easily like Japan. No hate, i like Canada and the Canadian squad but facts is facts.

  • TWU serves are so damn crisps, it's always tight to the net, errors are rare, curves are big. Their Outside Faked Set also is done like the Japaneses, Ishikawa and Takahashi have their hitting form with one arm high and one arm wind up before forming the setter hand and TWU got it just like that. Others usually have setter hands right after jumping and the only deceptive part is their aggressive approach and take off. The blocks are also deceptive as fuck, they're not just blocking where their torso is at, jump for an angle and diving their arms to the line vice versa. All the rear blockers assist with pipes and quicks too. Most of the time their upper chest is above the net and that's really damn high. Because they've trained with good serves, their receives are also solid, and the setter who magnificently put his magic into the offense and it shows. Spikers are also skilled af, height, advance tooling, off speed and precise power shots they got it all I'm a new fan now lmao

    @bn781@bn7812 жыл бұрын
  • From a high level, the biggest mistake/gap was the middle blocker mismatch. UCLA setter barely used his middles, even on good passes. While TWU used the middle as their anchor. - This changes the ENTIRE game. Watch the pin hitters, when TWU is attacking, UCLA is only successfully putting up 1 or 1.5 block, while the TWU middles are double blocking almost anything due to the middles leaving early, and DARING them to set middle, which has barely happened (9:55 the middles run so rarely, no one was on him at all = free net) . This causes more digs for TWU AND increases their attacking %. all based on who dominated the middle. --- (obviously it skips points, they may have tried to run the middles in those plays, but not in these highlights) -- I think it super interesting how a dominant middle can influence the entire game.

    @StaticMint@StaticMint2 жыл бұрын
    • Also, UCLA's serve receive was TERRIBLE, making it even harder to use the middles.

      @JorKal4@JorKal42 жыл бұрын
    • That's one of the most dominant middles in Canada on TWU Jackson Howe(Number 7) . Not to diss in any way but USPORT the Canadian college league uses a different ball mikasa instead of the molten which is also used in international play. If both teams played using the mikasa I think the score would have been much more lob sided. Because the ball is completely different and much heavier and much more floaty. the Molten ball is super bouncy and top spin heavy.

    • Damn this team’s system is hella confusing at first haha 😂 They’ve got 4 guys that play in at least 2 spots. 5 is oh and opp in the back row sometimes. 6 is an opp, setter and oh. 16 is a middle and opp. 20 is a setter and middle. I’m probably still missing something too. It’s definitely cool to watch and mad respect to those guys for being able to make it work so well! - Aaron Ricketts

  • Alot of this in my opinion had to do with setting. TWU's setter seemed to be placing his sets perfectly and specifically tailored to each hitters style. UCLA's setter was placing them awkwardly and timing them inconsistenly leading to a lot of week hits or just tips/freeballs.

  • Lol this has been happening since 1988 to all #1 us colleges....from the Winnipeg Wesmen, Manitoba Bisons, Saskatchewan Huskies, Laval Rouge et Or....5hey have taken their turns showing Ucla, Long Beach state, stanford, penn state, hawaii, etc that University volleyball in Canada is for real. Trinity western has been on a tear here in Canada and not surprised that UCLA got "spanked". Its too bad University sports in Canada does not get the televised as it does in the usa.
