  • 11:18 FUN FLINTLOCK FACTS! Carrying multiple pistols in bandoliers was common practice for pirates back in the day. See, flintlocks weren't as reliable as modern firearms and took a long time to reload, so having a whole bunch of them was practical, in case one failed to fire or was just used. Using that as a gameplay mechanic is both cool and historically accurate. Love it.

Some of them even reference David Lynch's adaptation of Dune, since the tone of voice and weapon of choice tie into the "Weirding Module", which was Lynch technologizing the Weirding Way since he wasn't keen on "kung fu on sand dunes". Incidentally, I do love the music video for Weapon of Choice. Christopher Walken put on a fantastic performance, as he usually does.

So when my brother and I found this game on one of those 4 in 1 pirated game discs, and it was not one of the games on the cover, we were obsessed with it. We played this so much, we essentially speedran this janky mess of a game. And as luck would have it, that same brother is visiting today! Thank you for finding this for us , Civvie.

  • I will say this. I've played this game back in 2005 and quite frankly, even putting aside the nostalgia lens, despite what Civvie says, I think this is a pretty darn ambitious game. It isn't that bad, especially when procedural generation goes right. The Ai is janky, that much is sure, but overall.. the atmosphere, the music, writing and cinematics? Pretty darn good. I love the choppy animations too, even after Quake and Half-Life it's charming.

    • Honestly given the terrifying situation it’s entirely plausible that your family members will have janky ai.

  • To this day, I wonder why *anyone* calls it "realistic" reloading when the character dumps perfectly good ammo to the ground. It's probably the least realistic kind of reloading.

    @Tyrian3k@Tyrian3k2 жыл бұрын
    • In a very intense and immediate situation (like say, in the middle of combat), it does kinda make sense that you wouldn't bother trying to keep all the ammunition, but in any other case it does seem a bit strange. I liked how SWAT 4 did it, where the reload button essentially has you swap between magazines that themselves can't be reloaded.

      @LonelySpaceDetective@LonelySpaceDetective2 жыл бұрын
    • It's relatively realistic compared to most games, where you do just that, but don't actually waste any ammo in the process.

    • Condemned used R button to check how much ammo you had in magazine.

      @masterexploder9668@masterexploder96682 жыл бұрын
    • Escape from Tarkov does the best. You can cycle through your loaded magazines, you can dump a half-loaded magazine to the ground for a bit quickier reload (and you're able to pick that magazine up later). Once you don't have full magazines you can manually load them with spare ammo. Or you can just toss a single bullet into the weapon reciever. Damn. I don't think every game needs such extensive shooting mechanics but EFT is the richest game in that regard

  • Civvie, this has been a wonderful week for me on your channel! First was Scratches which I've never played but owned since I was a kid, and then this, which Same Deal except I recently re-bought it on either steam of GoG idr which, because I remembered nearly nothing of it and wanted to play it and see the ending. That was several months ago and I've beaten the first boss so far. Long story short you're inadvertantly replaying my childhood (fuck, you started off doing that, I played Land of the Dead years before I'd even seen Night of the Living) and I love you for this random chance. Oh also also I've been watching since sometime in Season 2, and I had been missing the old Dungeon bits, the story pieces usually at the start and end of vids, and I really enjoyed the intro section to this one. Basically I loved what yuo've been doing but had a nitpick and you pretty much satisfied my nitpick so great job.
