IN THEATRES SEPTEMBER 16
Sarah Jessica Parker, Greg Kinnear, Pierce Brosnan, Olivia Munn and Christina Hendricks star in I Don't Know How She Does It, a comedy from director Douglas McGrath (Emma, Infamous) and producer Donna Gigliotti (The Reader, Let Me In). Based on the critically acclaimed bestseller by Allison Pearson, I Don't Know How She Does It follows a Boston-based working mother trying desperately to juggle marriage, children, and a high-stress job.
Kate Reddy (Parker) devotes her days to her job with a Boston-based financial management firm. At night she goes home to her adoring, recently-downsized architect husband Richard (Kinnear) and their two young children. It's a non-stop balancing act, the same one that Kate's acerbic best friend and fellow working mother Allison (Christina Hendricks) performs on a daily basis, and that Kate's super-brainy, child-phobic young junior associate Momo (Olivia Munn) fully intends to avoid. When Kate gets handed a major new account that will require frequent trips to New York, Richard also wins the new job he's been hoping for-and both will be spreading themselves even thinner. Complicating matters is Kate's charming new business associate Jack Abelhammer (Brosnan), who begins to prove an unexpected source of temptation.

  • The book this movie is based on was excellent. It described how hard it is to have work-life balance for career women in very realistic terms, and was far from cutesy. I have high hopes for this movie based on the original material.

  • I really respect Sarah Jessica Parker since she's apparently been able through her roles to strike a chord with the female audience. That means that I respect her audience, so that must be some talent there that I, as a male (you fill up as many adjectives as you want - feel free to do it) simply cannot grasp. Sometimes my wife forces me (you know they have that power) to watch one of her films - it makes my wife happy and if she's happy then I'm happy too. Then back to action movies.

    • @@shubhajaggi5487 yes. You have more time. And because of that more money for stuff. That makes it easier than having no Job and trying to get through. Also you have more time for yourself, even if its just at work. My best friend has 3 kids and does well, but she doesnt have one minute alone. I cant say that is good for our friendship, even if i love her kids... They need time.

    • @@anja6983 Not meaning to be judgemental, but you obviously don't have kids yet :) Mom's hiring nannies face different issues (guilt, like here Sarah feels she missed the 1st haircut, judgement from other women like you and me, insecurity and further guilt about leaving her kids alone, and financial loss ofcourse) My point isn't to go on justifying it, or to fetch another long winded justification from you. My only take is always that every mother is unique, everyone's journey is different and the least we can do as a woman is respect the power of CHOICE.

    • My parents weren't stay at home parents, and I still have had a healthy and happy childhood. It's about finding balance. My Dad runs his own Law Firm=a lot less time. But he always makes sure to spend an hour with my sister and I in the morning and eat dinner with the whole family at night. He and I also have our GOT Marathons together. My Mother is the main breadwinner of our family, and despite all the demands of her at work, she makes time for me (somehow). It is possible, it just requires an idea of time commitments. Of course, it probably helps that there were 5 1/2 years between my sister and I.

      @sarahshoemaker6150@sarahshoemaker61507 жыл бұрын
    • Both my parents work and i’ve had a fine childhood. Sure some days my parents have been exhausted but my mom even tried to stay at home and she couldn’t do it, she said herself that she needed having something productive other then taking care of kids to help her get through her days. I’m not sure about how you were raised but both my parents definitely preferred to work and do what they wanted, but I still got time to be with them and we still went on vacations and did everything a normal family does. Honestly I liked the fact that both my parents work because it also gave me some alone time, and not always have someone’s else there, even if it was my parent. And as to your comment about it just being nature, that’s completely untrue and sexist. As I said before my mother loves her work and finds having a job so much better for her mentally than staying at home all day, and my dad loves his job. So don’t say thinks like it being “nature” for one parent to stay home where a good bit of two adult families in America, both of the parents work, and their kids still receive an adequate childhood.
