"Ok wait a minute." "lets just talk...let's just talk-" i think for the first time conan actually feared for his life lmfao
He lives in new york so I doubt its the 1st time
@@TheeSocialPariah I literally was thinking the exact same thing as you, at least I hope I was 😬
Well, it’s all scripted… lol
You can see him feeling the fishing pole holding the knife when he throws it so.. he knows, of course! still... funny! :D
Afraid the little guy would accidentally stab him?
Cant believe how young he looked 4 days ago.
In some cases the camera takes off 25 years
Disappointing that Penn gained all the weight back. Thought he had it this time...
It's been 3 more days, this is beginning to seem unrealistic.
Or 2 weeks according to the video
You deserve all the likes
I'm pretty sure he didn't know exactly what was going on, but he was aware that as a 'magic trick' no one was ever in any danger.
Penn and Teller always hate on tricks that legit can harm someone. However they are pretty convincing. See nail gun or water tank trick.
Yeah and penn said he only likes tricks where the person on stage is also fooled, so Conan prob didn’t know the details
tell that to Houdini
@@oliverholmes-gunning5372 Houdini's illusions were also gimmicked in a way where he was also never in any real danger. He died of a gut punch, which wasn't actually part of a magic trick. Plus, Penn & Teller are very famously critical of magic tricks or illusions where someone is in danger of being really hurt, because they say it violates the pact the performer has with the audience; they give consent to see a magic trick, but not consent to see someone get hurt.
@@billyeveryteen7328 That's true; I was using Houdini for convenience since he is the most famous magician to have died while performing (even though as you say technically it wasn't a magic trick). I felt if I'd said "tell that to Amazing Joe Burrus" or "tell that to Karr the Mysterious" it wouldn't have had the same impact, at least for those who haven't seen the Netflix show Death By Magic.
These two guys (well, really all three), are natural-born showmen. I saw Penn and Teller in Vegas a decade ago in Vegas and was invited onstage to do a gun trick with them. Absolute legends.
Really? How did that go
@@BillyWunebuger They shot a .357 into a guy's mouth from across the stage. I was the guy who inspected the gun, the loaded round, and put my initials on the bullet. I then inspected the bullet from the guy's mouth and saw my initials. I still have no idea how they did that trick.
@@InfinitelyQurious really?
Me too! 10 years ago at the Rio! I got to go on stage. Still have the bullet and cartridge.
Really wow in vagas that must have been incredible in vagas you must have had a blast in vagas in vagas vagas vagas
Just made the realization why teller doesn't talk. Conan barely pays attention to him the entire act, which lets him get away with assisting the act without Conan noticing.
When a guest dwarfs Conan to make him look like a schoolboy, you know that guest is a mountain of a man!!
He's the same height as Conan.
@@russell2952 Look again. They're clearly not. Penn's at least 2 inches taller. Check @ 2:03
They're the same height lol
Dwarf is a very strong word. Penn probably has 2 inches on Conan.
Google says conan's 193cm,Penn's 199cm,so he's 2inches and a bit more taller
Teller saving Conan from Penn’s knife juggling was very sweet.
Penn is the tall one.
@@jeremypnet you’re correct my mistake I always do that lol
Penn and Teller are the tim burton version of Conan and Andy.
That’s kinda a spot on comparison
this is so accurate it's scary
100% accurate
A+
I think you would like the movie "penn and teller get killed"
In an alternate reality, Teller snaps at this very moment and drives the knife in to Conan's chest.
a thousand economics professors write this as a prime example of why man is not a rational actor
Does your state-appointed therapist know about this.
In an interview with Penn, he once told a story of how they did this in one of their shows, but the woman they got on stage just threw the knife immediately, before they even had a change to explain the rules (she just thought the magnets would work like they said). Apparently Penn was able to jump out of the way in time but he said he was pretty angry lol.
Remember where the interview was?
I would like to see that interview
Conan is brilliant at just going along with ANYTHING. If you kidnapped him, he wouldn't be screaming for help, he'd ask them to appear on the show.
He would bring along a camera crew with him😂
One of my all time favorite Conan clips, cuz I'm fairly certain Conan wasn't acting here lol 😂😂😂
You think he intentionally hurled a sharp knife at a human he couldn't see thinking there were magnets there? :D
He’s definitely acting lol wtf are you talking about he’s not even good at acting
@@vincevvn whatever you say, thespian :P
Nah Conan is on it.
The magic is real, and it's in your mind. ;)
Conan is one of the few people tall enough to make Penn seem normal sized on camera.
Didn’t realize Penn was like 6’5”
"do you watch this show?" Conan: No, I have cable. I don't have to. 🤣🤣🤣 4:09
0:06 Gob Bluth at it again with the "illusion"
Legend has it Conan has yet to watch the show, left it as a mystery.
I think during the first bit when he's throwing at Conan, he should have said I'm aiming near your head like before, but when he pulls off the blindfold the knife should have been between his legs.
Aiming for the wrong head
@@trickytreyperfected1482 that’s the joke.
You can tell how uncomfortable Conan was. Never seen his composure melt away so easily
I can't believe Penn a magician is actually as quick witted comedically as Conan a full time comedian
He's a showman, a huge part of putting on a good show is making jokes.
he started out as a carnie before moving to stage magic. it's where he picked up the fire eating and stuff like that. i think he did time as the carnival barker, so he's familiar with the sort of vaudevillian style comedy and how to play to the crowd. Teller is the real prototypical magician of the two, with an unhealthy love of classic magicians/escape artists like houdini and an almost encyclopedic knowledge of golden age magic acts and gimmicks. teller's "eating needles and thread" trick is an updated version of one of houdini's often repeated acts. penn is the face ,the loud showman that knows how to draw in a crowd and how to improv his way through the unexpected, teller is the mastermind, the quiet brains of the operation who gets away with everything without any suspicion due to his polite and stoic demeanor.
@@gourdguru Thanks, you described them so well and I now I love them even more ) not a dedicated fan so I don't know all the history, but was always enamored with the duo, and especially with Teller (loved his interviews about human psychology)
He's a magician who is also a comedian. He's both.
i like how Teller backs Conan up as Penn starts juggling knives
I can't say for 100% sure conan wasn't in on this but you can definitely see him flinch on a few of the knife strikes
Usually there is rehearsal for late night and talk shows in general. He wasn't allowed at the rehearsal so he was genuinely worried. Who wouldn't be when it comes to knifes being thrown at you 🤣
Penn & Teller have a rule that they never do a trick that is any more dangerous than sitting on your couch at home. Otherwise the audience becomes complicit in unnecessary risk to human life. I don't believe Conan knew the nature of the trick, but I do think he was assured that he would be safe.
He wasn't "in on it". Obviously, he knew that as magicians, there was some sort of trick involved, but wouldn't have known the specifics of it. Definitely reason to be a little nervous!
@@alamander4444 he's literally in on this every step of the way down to half-scripted lines to make it seem like there's hesitation for each part. the number of people who aren't picking up on that is astounding to me personally because to me it's incredibly obvious he's acting here but hey ho
@@queeffairy Have to be special kind of gullible if you really believe that.
Conan is legit man....he might just breathe and we ll die laughing!
I miss this. Before they were big, they were just having fun. My dad and I used to watch this stuff, and we loved the simplicity of the humor.
Lmao, 2:50 is Conan questioning every life decision that led him to that moment in time 😂😂😂
He looks like he's an accident about to happen; He looks so stressed here hahaha
I’ve been waiting for this in high definition for years..
I want to imagine at the beginning that Penn really did miss that 2nd throw, and he didn't fake it so Conan would be scared.
Conan’s blindfolded but he can see by the sound of his audience. A real comic.
i once was the target in this thing. It's both terrifying and exhilarating
The fun part of this is that it’s not even a magic trick it’s just a prank. And I am here for it
It absolutely is a magic trick, but the audience for it consists solely of Conan. What's great (and funny) about it is that they put the studio/tv audience on the magician's side of the effect.
I love the quiet unassuming, yet essential and legit power of Penn who does his part like a Boss. You don't really see how much he's doing as a showman till the second viewing. Teller is a case study in pitch perfect delivery as his role in distraction. But Penn, he is thee master class in subtlety and nuance. What a duo.
Pretty sure you got the names mixed up. But your point is true.
Teller (the short, silent fella) gives incredibly interesting interviews about human psychology. He's a master magician and misdirection artiste. A very cerebral and interesting person.
Imagine if Teller stabbed Conan by accident XD
What's really impressive is how they designed the trick to be 100% safe
Slightly possible for some dipshit to move too much when Teller is stabbing the wall near them and get a hospital trip.
22 years ago but full hd.. The advantages of actual tape
Well... not full HD, but a good HD transfer from SD
This is Conan's CGI era that Jordan refers to.
I want to see a video of conan reacting to this. This never fail to make me laugh.
7:24 Conan puts the blindfold on and immediately turns towards Teller to get the fake knife instead of waiting for Penn to pass him the real one. He knew what was going on.
Penn and Conan look normal sized next to each other! 😉🤣
A Behind the Nonsense for this would be great! Love Penn & Teller on Conan
I’d pay to see Conan’s reaction after watching it on the tape
This brings home how tall Conan actually is, I’ve met Penn and he is a giant.
These guys are pure AMAZING the way they play with your expectations like this. This is SO good!
I never thought Conan could get any more pale, but when he saw that first knife he lost a shade.
Penn and Teller are brilliant!
This old Connan vids are better than all Kimmel, Fallon, Coldbert and Corden new stuff.
I know they get a lot of hate, but I’ve always enjoyed the bits Corden and Fallon do when they aren’t behind a desk and they’re doing a game with the audience or guests. And, well, I guess I still enjoy Colbert when he’s not being a political shill.
Coldbert
The talent was better too.
It's okay to like something without trashing something else.
@@HumanPerson_final I'm relatively new to Colbert and some of the things he's angled toward are questionable. Still funny show to watch, but the politics are a bit skewed and not at all what they seem.
Conan knows that penn & teller would never have actual danger on scene. It's all acting but still great entertainment.
I wanna know what conan thought when he saw the tape
Penn and Conan each found someone to make them look like a regular height.
If he is acting, he's really good at it. 4:02
Isnt that the guy who sold joey the letter "v" encyclopedia book?
i love how Penn basically carried out a coup of Conan's show
The power of voiceover, audio, acting! Excellent!
These two are great. Bullshit is still one of my fav series.
The knife on the fishing rod .. xD !!!
7:24 Conan puts the blindfold on and immediately turns towards Teller to get the fake knife instead of waiting for Penn to pass him the real one.
It’s obvious he already knew nothing would happen
Not often you see a guest that's taller than Conan
I really enjoyed that! I would love to see a reaction video of Conan witching the footage.
That is actually a tremendous idea! By this point I'd have to think he's already seen this stunt, so it wouldn't be a true "reaction video," but it would be just as valuable & entertaining as any commentary track. Plus, I always need more Conan content; it doesn't matter much what it is.
7:24 Conan puts the blindfold on and immediately turns towards Teller to get the fake knife instead of waiting for Penn to pass him the real one. He knew what was going on.
It's a little offsetting when the guest is taller than Conan
These segments are the perfect companion with a quick meal 🔪🔪🎯
Spoiler: Coco survives
ALLEGEDLY
@•T[A]P Me!! To Have [S]EX With Me Why did you steal this comment and put it in a reply?
this illusion bit goes well with Conan's sensibilities because it was an incredible waste of everybody's time... but I'm still entertained.
To think about it that "knife bouncing right there" was absolutely planned
teller looks like a 80 yr old scientist
Stay still, Conan. This is mostly me xD
Their gonna give Conan a heart attack trying to make someone laugh 😂
These are great guys! Incredible
I hope Penn and Teller live forever.
This is fantastic!
Man, I really want a follow up of Conan watching the tape.
this gave me anxiety
Does it help to know that they had a rehearsal before the show and Conan knew (more or less) what was going to happen? "Don't worry, we're in control, it's just a trick. We never put anyone in danger. Other thanks ourselves!" - Penn
the "i got cable i don't have to" was a 10/10 :D
Conan is one of the best people for his job.
I love this whole thing.
Heaven forbid the audience dosnt laugh at Conan for 3 seconds.
Conan is so committed to the show😂
Penn and Conan look like average height humans, but it is just an... Illusion
The tall guy also has a side business of selling Encyclopaedias.
brilliant, true entertainment
"And Andy, you got NOTHING to say to him, you SHUT UP!!!" Truly communicates the feelings of the Conan audience.
7:15 how does nobody laugh at that quip lol
"Do the math at home, people!"
Boa tarde, um belo momento sensacional e Divertido. Adorei o vídeo.
"Conan... Natural Born Target!" Don't know if that's a compliment, lol
Pen and Teller, Will Ferrell, Norm MacDonald .. everyone always shined better on Conan.
@Tammy 23 y.o - check my vidéó ... he did a lil poo poo
The denominator here is they’re all tall people
don't forget the bread guy
@@acidmana6141 sorry I am low carb right now.. I must forget the bread
@@AmericasComic funny and tall
Love Penn & Teller!!
he really honed his knife throwing skills
That is exactly how you take over a show.
Man that was a good one!!! And another one!! And another one even
The audience really blew this bit.
You would think by watching this that Conan and Penn are regular size.
You mean to tell me Teller isn’t 4’11”
I appreciate the pre-2003 "they're illusions!" reference
Brilliant!!!
Comedy like this is what late night hosts dream about. Stuff that makes them really uncomfortable makes for brilliant television. David Letterman had an agreement with Penn and Teller to never tell him before hand what they were going to do and they'd always fuck with him big time. I assume Conan had a similar sort of policy in place.
I really hope Penn & Teller refused to explain or rehearse with Conan before the show what was going to really happen for Conan's best reactions.
That's why the electromagnets and "you can only throw on three , this is not for you, its for the technician"
Penn and teller are fucking goats.
Penn- Don't worry that much about that, we're going near the head this time. Conan- 😶 Me- 🤣
Ah, Penn and Teller. Never disappoints...
Is this the same guy that tried to sell Joey volcano insurance 😂
7:59 "and andy you got nothing to say". LOL NOT A PROBLEM! That's his specialty!
Conan was visibly stressed out after those "throws"
Yeah, he was far less stressed when he was the target. He obviously knows (logically) that there is a trick and he trusts Penn&Teller, but it's far more difficult to trust himself and that's what it feels like when he's the one throwing knives.
When you know Conan is tall... and then see that Penn is even taller...
Thank you, KZhead! this clip is great! and you, coco
