The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Это песня, никогда не умрёт
The only thing that died of this song was Delilah
As a child in the 80’s, I grew up listening to music of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s... it was my father’s love of music that I took most from him.. he just passed away on sept 18. I might not be able to talk to him anymore but his music speaks to my soul...
I feel your pain. may he R.I.P
WOW, what a set of pipes! And what a performer! And no lip syncing BS.
No one but Tom Jones will ever own this song!!!!

I really hope someone either changes the words to this extremely violent song and inappropriate song or the song be banned altogether: The song is about a man killing the woman whom he loves, but she is with another man. So he spies on her, and after the man leaves, he goes to her house. she opens the door laughing and he kills her with the knife in his hand.... Should we really promote this song with the existing lyrics???
Anybody else just because this song is a timeless masterpiece?
Es una mezcla excelente de misterio, romanticismo tóxico y opera

No autotune. Just talent. What a voice!
Autotune hadn’t been invented yet.
Oh for the love god stop with that no auto tune horse shit. Think of something new
So is flapping his right arm to see if he can fly.
Stop bro autotune was invented in 1997 stupid
I don't think you know what autotune is
I’ll bet the maestro in the background is a great ballroom dancer
BRING THIS KIND OF MUSIC BACK AMERICA 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
wow !! where are real men like this one now a days
Well...Tom Jones has an incredible, powerful, baritone voice, but he is *not* someone you'd ever want a relationship with if you are a woman. Epic level cheat & skank.
Take me back to 1968!
You'll never see another conductor having this much fun, fantastic performance!
Try Paul Mauriat instrumental version.
All he needs is a woman in a matching ball gown & his evening is complete.
Loved him! :)
Ya lo creo que si busca Tina Charles I LOVE to LOVE año 1976 y verás a un director de orquesta bailando discoteca

Still watching and enjoying this beautiful song in 2023!
They just don't make 'em like this anymore. The suit, the voice, the pure class.
Elvis loved Him and His voice!

This is why they called him "The Voice" back in those days.

I like how the conductor in the back round is dancing during this whole performance. You can tell he loves what he does! Good Stuff!
spot on! cheers from Argentina
Myfavorite of all time
Of course he loves what he's doing. Ray Bloch was one of the finest directors of his time. He worked from the 1920s through the '70s and was in demand to direct for most of the best performers of the period.
@@OldGunnyStJames Bloch was great, but he was wrong about The Beatles - only gave them a year.
@@JR-zv6qm Yes, he was wrong. Still, they only performed less than ten years. Popular music and tastes evolve as each generation passes puberty. People today reminisce about the 'oldies' of the '90s.
Обожаю Вас,сэр Том. Талант непревзойденный.
I'm 68 but this 70s compilation has made me feel like a 20 year old again! I can't help but bop around to the beat! So many of these songs take me back to particular places and the people I was with at that time. Better than any blood pressure pills or statins!
One of the greatest live performances ever-the singing and the band. It’s all stunning. Came across this a couple of days ago and I am floored. The energy and enthusiasm of all of them-Tom Jones, the orchestra and the conductor are beyond crazy. This is truly a special performance and we’re fortunate that it’s up here. And to me it sure does look like those musicians are playing. The whole thing is special.
I Loved watching the Ed Sullivan show. He had all kinds of performers.

I remember this performance. I was too young to fully appreciate the gul om performance. But you recognized the energy. It wasn't Lawrence Welk. ❤️. Sizzling
Yes, especially the strings that give you chills, even though they are nowhere to be seen in the starched TV show :)
The power of his voice is unparalleled. Energy bursting in this old video. The band director is on his toes. The timing just perfection. Love this song and Tom Jones is just amazing here and always.
Perfectly said.

Excellent description and wonderfully said.....Bravo ! I've couldn't of said it better.
My dad took my mom to see Tom Jones, late 90's or early 2000's. Dad said it was the only time he ever felt a little jealous when my mom got all excited to see Tom Jones
My mum used to have his poster up in the kitchen when I was a kid 😂👍. He is fabulous though,
My parents went to see him in 1982 and they LOVED it! I asked two different girlfriends of mine to see him with me and they both said NO! Their Loss!
From the early morning İ ' m listening to his song tirelessly . And suprised seeing your comment at present 😳. İ considered that it's only me who is here listening his wonderful performance . He died 11th August, of cancer in his home in Sharon. I’m still alive and healthy. This is my private channel as my official accounts are being handled by my management. Thanks dear fan..

Back in the day when he had his TV show, a girl a little older than me, maybe 12 or 13, said she didn't like Tom Jones because he was short. She said he stood on some platform to make himself look taller than he was. I was disappointed a cool older girl like her didn't like him and was rather embarrassed I was just a dumb nine year old and not being a cool teen saying I liked his show and songs before hearing her disapproval of him. He looked normal size to me. But she's With It and knows best. Aah, summer vacations 1967 & 1968 Matinicus Island Maine!
What else can we say? WHAT A VOICE!!!

I just saw him for the first time as well!. We didn't know what to expect, but this man is still a Powerhouse at 82!

Yes. I grew up listening to Tom Jones. I had this 45 RPM record; I must have played it 100's of times. I found the video of him singing this song at the Queen's Jubilee. He sounded just as good & strong.
I don' know if he smoked or drank or did drugs, if he didn't, that is probably why his voice is still strong today.
Possibly the most naturally gifted vocalist popular music has ever seen. Never over-indulged in dramatization, which of course is part of the package, but it's raw Welsh power and feeling, every note. Could tear down a mountain with that voice.

Watch the conductor tapping his feet w/the song...he is almost dancing... This orchestra enhances Tom Jones voice...best performance.

Absolute brilliant! His voice is just breathtaking! And wonderful to see real musicians in the background who actually play real instruments :)
So true. Uber masculinity and UCB a clear powerful voice that he knew just how to work and deliver. I remember staying w my grandparents and watching Tom Jones perform on their “portable television” that was set up on the kitchen table. We watched Tom Jones on some evening variety show, maybe his or someone else’s. By then he was starting to wear open shirts w a big cross. I had to smile at my VERY devout grandmother (sweetest Edith Bunker type) who frowned, shook her head and muttered how disgusting he was! I totally got what she was conveying, but TOM Jones had the most outrageously gifted voice and he was such an icon of the times. Some 55 years laterI am just blown away by his voice , and some amazing songs that he sang so brilliantly.
America bring this music back
